Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon (June 19, 1834 January 31, 1892) was a British Reformed Baptist preacher who remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the "Prince of Preachers." In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times a week at different places. His sermons have been translated into many languages. Spurgeon was the pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London for 38 years. In 1857, he started a charity organization called Spurgeon's which now works globally. He also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him after his death.
Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, a commentary, books on prayer, a devotional, a magazine, and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Arguably, no other author, Christian or otherwise, has more material in print than C.H. Spurgeon.

My church needs this. I attend an ifb church that believes in repentance of unbelief. They think that repentance of sin is heresy. I will need to go to another church eventually after attempting to share the contents of sermons like this with my friends.

Well let me ask you this? If you have to repent of your sins to be saved, how many sins? All of them? How can you do that? You would have to be perfect. Do we just repent the best we can? What if I only repent 99% and forget about a small sin Im still doing? Like telling my wife she looks good in something I know she doesnt. Or telling my grandchild their artwork is beautiful. The bible never says repent of your sins and believe. It says repent and believe.

@@guitartrashman You seem to think that our repentance must be perfect. Let me ask you a question. If we only have to repent of unbelief and then believe, then does our belief have to be perfect?

    Hosea 10:12
Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
    Jeremiah 4:3
For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
    Hebrews 6:7-8
For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.
    Jeremiah 7:23
But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’ But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.
    Jeremiah 8:5
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.
    Jeremiah 9:6
Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit, they refuse to know me, declares the Lord.
    John 3:19
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
    Ephesians 5:11
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,
    Jeremiah 23:24
Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.
    Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
    Psalm 90:8
You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
    James 1:23-25
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
    Luke 11:28
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
    Luke 8:21
But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
    John 13:17
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
    Matthew 7:24-25
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
    James 4:17
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
    John 15:22
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
    Acts 17:30
The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
    Luke 24:47
and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 🙏🏼

There is no hope for me - I feel that I have come to the point of repentance - and then I have turned back to my sins and have gone further down than before - time and again. I have no power to turn. I have no power to become righteous. I do not even have power to want to be Jesus' servant! What am I to do?!?!?!

To Talitha. May I add my own testimony? First, I have always believed in God since I was a child, and if you truly believe with all you heart don't give up. I never had any doubt about God, or Jesus as a Savior. My problem had always been sins. Just as David was a man of great faith and after God's own heart, I know that my faith has never left me, even though I have sinned for many years (regrettably). The bible teaches that God draws us to Him (by hearing the word), and "leads us to repentance." I see faith and repentance as graces of God and God is concerned for our salvation and He works these gifts of grace in us. It might take us a long time to truly repent, but when it happens it is God who is working in us. We don't have the power to work such things in us or outside of us. It's always done "through the Spirit," as Paul says in Romans 8:13, "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." To "mortify" the deeds of the body means to put to death those sins. Sin is deceitful and destroys lives and souls, so you must learn to hate all sin and all works of evil. Once you understand how deceitful sin is, then you will be lead to a "godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation", and will grow in grace and sanctification (holiness). That has been my experience as a Christian. It is not an easy road, but you have to fight the good fight, finish the course and keep the faith, as Paul says in II Timothy 4:7.

Dear Vicki - thank you so much for that word. That is very encouraging to me right now - at this moment. I think you are right. Thank you for taking the time to share your own testimony with me! It sounds a bit like mine, and does give me hope that there IS hope for me. I will fight, and resist the devil. It is not easy (especially when my flesh wants something that is wrong). But, as you said, through the grace of God, I will resist him, and eventually be freed from my desire for sin.
I can not begin to tell you what your message meant to me. I thank God that He would orchestrate you writing that. It shows His interest in, and love for me. I praise God, and I thank you! God bless you and increase your faith and joy as well! Thank you!!!!!

I still cannot understand this man. He speaks of himself as a Calvinist yet exhorts us to pray and act like Arminians. At one point he speaks of forcing salvation upon us and at another of God helping us to repent believe and accept Him. At least he does not put salvation before belief as some Calvinists do. Yet how can you speak of man being without excuse if all these things necessary for salvation are not in anywise dependent on man but wholly on God. The truth is that the sovereignty of eternal God is so complete in every jot and tittle that it is hard to see how Adam and even Satan himself committed any rebellion had God not only allowed it but actively made them do it. So I find that I must agree with Arminius - there is prevenient grace which God gives to enable, but not to force, man to repent and believe and receive God's salvation. The only question Arminius had was over the perseverance of the saints. In this point I believe that when one has trusted truly and sincerely to be your personal Lord and Saviour your salvation is in His hands. If you stray you may suffer and lose out on blessings and even lose your earthly life but your eternal life is safe in Christ. You may be a pauper, saved through the flames, in heaven but you will be there.
