    My experience with removing ranger fans has never been that easy. There is no way that clutch came off that easy the first time

    It's close except you don't explain how to get the stuck fan clutch nut loose. That is the major problem. The belt will not hold the the water pump still while taking the fan clutch off.

      Had the same problems, Got belt so tight it broke before it would allow the nut to turn. O'riles(auto parts store) had a fan clutch removal kit free to use, in it is the correct size wrench for the fans 36mm nut, and a even larger looking open end wrench that goes across the 4 bolts on the water-pump pully to hold it in place, worked like a charm.

    Thanks for the tutorial. This was such a pain to get off even with the added tension. I feel like it was more luck than anything that mine popped loose. I get the feeling that I should have done the serpentine belt while I had the old fan off, but I'll cross that bridge later.

    Made it look easy taking off the fan nut. Been fighting with it for 2 days. Even had a 4ft. Cheater bar on my wrench and it still wont budge

    He forgot to mention he wedged a bolt or a clamp to prevent fan from spinning. The water pump spins both ways.

    Is this video uploaded in a way that it gets inverted somehow (like viewing it through a mirror effect) because this video shows a picture of the fan and clutch at the point 4 minutes and 5 seconds that is exactly the opposite of my 02 ford ranger's fan and clutch?

    The fan clutch nut on my 98 4.0 feels like it's welded I mean you can torch heat it and turn nut to left passenger side but no dice

    I was told the rangers that the 9 blade was regular cooling and the 11 blade was supercool, does it matter what which fan i buy?

  • @d.g.degennaro2464
    @d.g.degennaro2464 5 років тому +5

    If you have the 36 mm wrench, it makes it so easy. You dont have to remove the water pump bolts to access the fan clutch nut. Had mine out in about 10 minutes and the new one in about 15 minutes.

    • @rickbierma149
      @rickbierma149 10 місяців тому +1

      Agreed. DO NOT remove all four bolts to the water pump pulley, or you will not be able to unscrew the 36 mm main nut. Instead, go to AutoZone and borrow a spanner wrench, as well as a 36 mm wrench if you need one. The spanner will fit around the four bolts to give you something to push against for that nut.
      I don't think putting reverse (adding) tension to the serpentine belt is a good idea. If yours breaks it probably means you needed a new one anyway....
      Your replacement fan appears to turn the wrong direction. The original did not have the heavy duty cooling option, which your new blade is for. I ended up getting one that looked the same, a Dorman 620-155.

    wait, my manual says it's a reverse thread, but that is loosening to the left?

    • @gailjanes6974
      @gailjanes6974 6 років тому +2

      It is a conventional Thread. I took out two adjacent bolts from the mount. Took a 1/8" x 1.5" x 24" steel strip. Drilles two holes to match the fan head, cut a recess between the holes, then bolted this to the fan hubs removed earlier. This was used to hold the fan hub while removing the 36mm nut. It took a few good taps on the 36 mm wrench to break the nut loose. Then just spin the fan until it comes off, Remove the tool after fan/shroud removal.

    This seems to not have reverse threads? The 3.0 I believe is reverse threads.

    What if extra belt tension doesn't work? What if a fan clutch removal tool that grabs the 4 pulley bolts doesn't work? What if an air hammer doesn't loosen it? What then?

    Can we normalize youtubers not cutting away and coming back to bolts being loose? Come on man, I can't get the big nut on my fan loose to save my life and you just cut the video away where I'm sure you spent 30 minutes doing god knows what to get it off.
