I wish people would just age naturally. Famke is still gorgeous, but she was amazingly beautiful before the botox. She literally matched Jean Grey, she is the best Jean Grey. I liked Sophie Turner too, but Famke was out of the ballpark amazing/
@@ottoroberts5163Keep telling yourself that sophie turner killed her role and is arguably the best jean grey for her time seeing as she's a more fleshed out character you guys only pay attention to the special effects
I love how it begins, the sweet calm symphony of vocals and instruments, into the quick HA. Foreshadowing at it's best. And then all the subtle dark undertones, leading up to a tragic yet powerful transformation, really captures Jean's metamorphosis, going from a kind loving woman into a powerful destructive storm. The arrangement really portrays how she wasn't exactly evil, just a force of nature doing what it will, indiscriminately. If you think about it, the Phoenix is the ID and Jean is the Ego, batteling it out over rationality vs pleasure
10:30 That transition is insane! I love how well put-together this suite is, combining the best Phoenix-Themes of the franchise to create a beautiful musical character arc for Jean Grey
John Powell completely nailed it with the Last Stand soundtrack, especially the 'Phoenix Rises' piece - that blew my mind then and continues to do so whenever I hear it. The movies might have flopped, but the music was spot on. Too bad they didn't adopt the themes in the following movies.
I hope they use this for Dark Phoenix!! UPDATE: Love Hans Zimmer and his work in Dark Phoenix was phenomenal, but I really feel like John Powell's theme for Jean here really captured the love, tragedy, and despair of her character with a hint of hope
It's crazy how you can remember certain scenes by the music alone. At around 10:30 is when she just obliterates folks in X2. She can't help it. It's her nature at this point. She is neither good nor evil. She just IS, she is the PHOENIX. And the music just builds it all up. Such goosebumps! And Wolverine trying to get to her, losing flesh along the way...ugh.
The Last Stand may have been garbage and a slap to the comic books.... but the score is brilliant. Dark Phoenix's theme would still fit in intergalactic scenes where the X-Men fight the Shi'ar on the moon, and Jean devouring a star. lol
Honestly, the Last Stand wasn't that bad, it's just filled with terrible dialogue and too much stuff happening at the same time. They could've easily done the story better, but that fight on the moon felt more Fantastic Four than X-Men to me in the comics. Leave aliens to the FF, the Avengers and the Inhumans. Let the X-Men deal with mutants like Apocalypse, Magneto, the Brotherhood, the Shadow King and the Hellfire Club, or with vengeful humans like Stryker.
I concur. Fantastic score, at least to Jean grey’s scenes. The last stand is garbage - but I’ll take that over apocalypse... they really did him the dirty in that film... thank god xmen:evolution did apocalypse so well
L0L L0L L7L Personally, they should have saved the Dark Phoenix part for another standalone movie. Kind of like a pre-existing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 & 2. But keep the whole "Battle of the Cure" plot as the main story for the third film. *THEN* tease the audience for another X-Men movie that will be a more faithful film adaptation of the Dark Phoenix saga within the next few years. Still, The Last Stand was just stupid. Not the worst X-Men movie ever made, since that dishonor belongs to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it still wasn't a good movie, in my opinion.
Otto Roberts I didn't think that X-Men Apocalypse was that bad because I didn't bothered to watch the movie in theaters when it came out. I just thought it was okay movie, but it should have been made straight-to-DVD or Blu-ray, in my opinion. But yeah, we can all agree that X-Men Evolutiin did Apocalypse's character absolute just as did the 90's animated series. Especially with how the 90's animated series did a much better job at adapting the Dark Phoenix saga than the live-action movies did.
9:12 wish there was an extended piece of this section that lasted a few minutes. Love it. Bought the score hoping there would be, but disappointed. It's beautiful with both the gentle strings, and the rousing full orchestra!
Completely agreed. The whole composition is beautiful, but from 10:30 there's a power and majesty that are simply overwhelming. So so soooOOO beautiful! No words to describe it!
Beautiful arrangement. I've always loved the music of the X-men films, I love the films and have done since I was young but no matter the movie, even the weaker ones the score is always firing on all cylinders, emotional, powerful, recognisable and exciting music. Can't wait to hear what Zimmer does for Dark Phoenix, I reckon he will do his own thing but I'd love to hear Ottman's Apocalypse Jean/Phoenix motif return as it felt really fitting to the character. Last Stand's and X2's are also gorgeous but it would be nice musical continuity if they continued Ottman's Jean motif and maybe made it even more powerful and dark for her Phoenix.
This has got to be the best collection of scores I’ve ever heard compiled. Well done, man. I liked and subscribed immediately and have listened to this in full about 4 times already. Any chance you might make an update including the best bits from the Dark Phoenix movie? Hans Zimmer was BRILLIANT; especially during the segments accompanying Jean in action. (The end of Gap, the end of Frameshift, the first half of Deletion, and the second half of Insertion.) That would be AMAZING!
Man, the Dark Phoenix storyline wasn't handled amazingly either time, but all of Jean Grey's themes (Powell for The Last Stand, Ottman for Apocalypse, and Zimmer for Dark Phoenix) have been spectacular!
My hope was to see her in the Multiverse of Madness. In a way I'm glad I didn't see her die for Wanda, on the other hand, I have the faintest hope of seeing her in Secret Wars. Even if for a few seconds. Famke's Jean wasn't perfect, but it marked me strongly.
