Biggest con was left out of the Pros and Cons *...running only 32bits app* So disappointed. Do you think it will be fixed? It is the only reason I've not bought it after watching your video
Hi Nick! I've been looking for a review for this box, and almost as if you read my mind, here's this thorough review! More than the content, I'd like to comment more on the subtle enhancements you're incorporating to your videos, like the graphics as you're speaking about the ports of the device, and highlighting with larger text the areas you're describing on the device inner specs. This is great for viewer consumption as they follow along the video. I've been following for 4 years now, and I'm glad to see you've doubled your subscriptions and elevated the production of your content since that time. Be well!
Yes, you have indeed been a subscriber and supporter of my videos for many years. As for the video enhancements, I always try to think of someone watching or not getting into Android boxes for the first time and do not understand all the jargon around the ports and specs. Thanks for your continued support
Hi Nicholas. (Noelle). I waited for this review and have shared its URL and your referral code everywhere across Discord servers (along with a rave of your reviews and of Ugoos). 😊 Thank you.
Sorry what is nice? You now how much I need to pay in Canada to buy this ? You now you can't have any streaming service in HD or 4k ? Only UA-cam plays in 4k that's all
Nick, as usual, a great review. I still think that the box with the best bang for the buck (if you don't mind the crappy remote that comes with it) for streaming is the TOX3 that you reviewed in October 2022.
They have done it again..when it comes to features and customization they can't be beat. The pros show how awesome this box it..there are few cons apart from the lack of Google certification .by now 64 byte is a must.also the gpu when it comes to gaming. And lastly some people will not like the price. Side note imagine ugoos features with shield hardware..lol..dreams can happen.. AWESOME JOB NICK. 😁😁😁👍👍👍
Hey I'm not too concerned about the GPU bug as Ugoos will release a firmware update to tighten that up. 64-bit and certification can be deal breakers. Thanks as always for watching.
Thank you for the great review~! Some users have mentioned that unlike AM6B+ this box does not support TV led dolby vision(RGB tunneling 4:4:4 8bit) and also not support dolby vision profile 7 "FEL". Could you please confirm that?
@@tvboxstop Hi, could u plz send me some article explaining what is this Dolby Fel, Mel, RGB tunnelling, etc. I tried to do my own research, but couldn't find anything detailed.
MEL is minimal enhancement layer. Means the video info is only in the base layer (10-bit 4:2:0) and the MEL only has metadata. FEL is full enhancement layer where the FEL layer has the extra picture information bringing the final output to 12-bit. Most DV content today is MEL. There is also the option where the FEL can be 4000 nits while the base layer is only 1000 nits. In our case, the base and FEL are both the max nit value. Dolby Vision encoding for disc is more complicated than DV encoding for streaming. I don't mean the actual DV master as that should be the same between both and is a separate process, I mean the physical encoding of that master into a disc or streaming format. It's not that DV on disc is impossible to do, but it can take more time than a straight HDR10 encode, and more time means more money. If anything, the disc version of DV with FEL is the 'true' 12-bit decoded version while the streaming versions are all essentially MEL, there's no additional enhancement data whatsoever and they uprate the 10-bit stream to 12-bit purely via 'shaping' of the 10-bit version. Couldn't find anything on RGB tunneling
❤ wow now these units just keep getting better, like so much better! Imagine Nick where we will be with these units in 3 years… I was going to say 10 but by then it’ll be so different… VR immersion different.

U r amazing!! I never saw such an amazing reviews like this ! Thx for ur time .. also if i may ask .. i m confused about h96 58 and this box .. which one best for kodi and all sounds formats?
This one is better when it comes to video playback and the decoders. With that Dolby Vision capability you can't go wrong. There H96 V58 as 64-bit and a slightly more powerful CPU for gaming but it still a mess when it comes to decoders and playback.
The only think i don't like about this box is no physical power button. UGOOS is BEST - love the all metal design. Also I LOVE the CLEAN design NO BLOATWARE and Ugoos kept the same design for years. which is great for me easy access to menu functions you know exactly where they are. I am still running UT8 based on Nicks recommendation. I love the port selection on this AM8 box also has HDR 10+ AND FULL DOLBY capabilities awesome. Nick can you transfer files from pc to ugoos tv box? (suggestion for future video) if so please show how?

Or only if ur smart tv support dolby vision it will show dolby vision icon. Anyway nice video keep up the good work and may god continues keep blessing you.
I've had Google Nexus Player, HK1 Box, MeCool KM3 and most recently the Onn Android TV player. My question is how does this make itself worth $189 when the Onn is only $21 after tax and it does a fantastic job. How can I rationalize buying this over another Onn device?
All the models you quoted there are running very cheap budget SOC boards that are susceptible to overheating. The performance benchmarks are nothing compared to this model and their firmware updates are little to none. Almost all of them are running on the Android TV version of Android with Google certification which attracts a particular type of user, where the majority of users for this model include alternative streamers and Android gamers, CoreELEC users, EMUElec retro gamers, and hardware enthusiasts. The cooling system on this new chipset is next level and will ensure the box last a very long time without dying from overheating. And never before as any Android box but able to give you Dolby Vision for self-hosted videos. That was only available on Netflix, not for self-hosted videos which is something users has been trying to get for quite a number of years to use with their movie libraries. Navigation bar and status bar, Oh that's a big one for lots of users. Oh and most important according to the latest reports about TV box malware, you will not find Ugoos brand sharing up anywhere. Restarting is caused by power adapter issues, damage caused by overheating, or general mainboard damage caused by not placing it on a voltage regulator.
Hi can you help me, I recently bought the H96Max 8K ULTRA HD I only watch Kodi and UA-cam I do not play any games. However I cannot play Kodi 4K files larger than about 2 to 3 gig. My friend has the Amazon Cube 4K and is able to play all Kodi files of any size. Is there an equivalent Android box that cost less than the Amazon cube (UK around £130). I do not mind last years or older model which may be discounted, but I am really trying not to buy Amazon if possible. Thank you
Sure I can guarantee the best box you can buy whether older or recent is Ugoos models. They are sold in a lot of places other than Amazon such as Aliexpress and other Chinese retail stores. For the price you can check out the powerful Ugoos AM6-B Plus a great high-end model - s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DDIXLCZ with this model, you get a hexa core CPU, powerful GPU, and great firmware updates with the most unique firmware features not found in other boxes.

Hi Nick, great reviews! Can you please advise if i am only use a tv box as streaming box, play 2016p vides from home nas and install NBA apk app to watch live games. Is this ugoos am8 better or h96max? Or any cheaper tv box can handle?
Hi. I have been in the chat room this week with someone who has the H96 Max V58 who plays a lot of 4K HDR/AV1/Dolby Vision videos. He says that is not too impressed with the performance of the H96 Max where smoothness of playback was a major factor. I would recommend the Ugoos AM8 over the H96 Max because it has newer compatible hardware, as well as the necessary decoders including Dolby Vision which other non-Android TV OS models has. The only feature the H96 Max has over the AM8 is 64-bit architecture. If 64-bit is what is most important to you then there is H96 Max well-built choice
The h96 max v58 is a mess compared to this box i have both and the UT8 pro the UT8 PRO is fantastic im sending the H96 max back its wack the last good H96 max was the RK3399. but it stuck on 7.1
I really appreciate the support. However, I stopped sharing the video samples due to copyright challenges. When I shared them people were uploading them to UA-cam and then filing copyright claims on my videos. Even the site where I downloaded them from received copyright claims from Dolby, and they had to remove their entire library.
@@tvboxstopcan you please check if a kodi will works with the device espcially in kodi settings the gui support 2160 and White list support becuse I have a tv box Build in android TV does not support 2160 gui kodi and White list.
I ran the Kodi application and its GUI works okay. The only issue I encountered was that it got a little glitchy around the Dolby Vision video playback.
hv seen that it doesnt support 59.940 & 23.976 only 60&50Hz only kinda negative point for me for some of videos especially VC-1/1080p playing! hope new X96 X10 has it because of X96Max+Ultra(recent I'v use this Box) 59.xx/23.xx has had this
None of these boxes can aim to sell at more than nvidia shield. Firmware wise TOX3 can do almost everything like this one for third of the price.@@tvboxstop
Or if they really want to aim this high, then they need to pay google for the certification and support all the streaming apps + there cannot be flaws like the mirroring not working@@tvboxstop
Sometimes when you connect very large drives it takes quite a while to get detected sometimes it doesn't. I believe Ugoos will release a fix if you report it
I have connected a 2 tb wd digital elements portable through a usb 3.0 hub on my Ugoos AM8 Pro. It works without problems. I use Kodi on it and it play's very smooth!
I don't have the answer to that. Judging from past models I don't think they will switch or upgrade to a higher Android version such as Android 12. If they do believe me they would release another model basically with the same hardware called the Max or Ultra. The new standard for Android 12 from what I have read is 64-bit. It has all the requirements to facilitate this, so it might as well be it marketing strategy.
@@tvboxstop thanks for the reply. Your undoubtedly right - they will save it so you have to buy another one. Not just a simple update. Still this is a very impressive little box. Great channel too mate
Yes most definitely Dolby Vision works for self hosted videos on this latest model triggering the Dolby Vision feature on your TV that's the selling point, not only on Netflix and others.
The Nvidia shield is still better when it comes to raw hardware power. However it's running on Android TV or Google TV OS. This box runs on Android's mobile version, offering different kinds of formal features compared to the shield. It will not outperform the hardware performance of the shield, but it does offer play store and unique features such as root access switch, and Dolby Vision for self hosted videos that you cannot get on the Nvidia shield.
I don't have a Dolby Vision profile 7. In the review the blowing glass video is a Dolby Vision profile 8.1 UHD and I also tried the FHD format of this same video and they both trigger the Dolby Vision feature the on my TV. So I would want to assume that because it simply DV profile 8.1 it's backward-compatible in its ability to play profile 7. Yet I can be wrong.
They are exactly the same with the only difference being that the SK1 has Google Widevine level one with HDCP protection where you can use a modified version of Netflix to get HD 1080p and this is on the mobile version also.
is there an Android device that runs pure Android with Widevine security Level 1... i'm pretty sure the answer is NO but maybe someone knows something i don't
LMAO!! Literally. I've been selling Android Boxes for a very long time. My Boxes have the same Specs and I retail them for $140. Even cheaper if my customer orders with a year of IPTV
I have noticed that devices running older versions of Bluetooth have difficulty running on devices with the latest version such as 5.2 and 5.3. When using older versions like 4.0 you get connectivity issues.
More of a dud, than a bomb shell. The New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd Gen that sells for less than $70 has Dolby Vision (and HDR10+), which begs a question. Just how much does it cost to licence DV if it can be seen on a much cheaper device? It cannot be a lot and yet so many devices that do have ti seem to come at a premium. A myth that needs busting. This box is still stuck in the past in too many ways. 32Gb storage in 2023? Only 4Gb RAM? Why not Android 12 or even 13? And only running in 32 bit mode is bizarre. No widevine is not entirely surprising for a TV box bon on this one so expensive? And yet this comes at a very premium price, in Intel N100 territory for sure. You can get an N100 Mini PC with Windows 11, 16Gb RAM (4 times), 512Gb storage (16 times), wich will also give you vastly superior read and write times and in many cases, the option to upgrade the internal storage at least in one fashion. With an Intel box you get full widevine and Netflix certification out of the box and every flavour of Linix will run without having to rely on custom firmware or restricted Linux based distros, so next to no hassles with tinkering. I/O is often better with more external storage options and in some cases 10Gbps USB. HDMI tends to come with the option of connecting two monitors. No root switch options required either to do whatever you want. It is fair to say that Dolby Vision will be missing on N100 but when you weigh up all of the pros and cons at the price. Whilst the range of settings in the firmware is better than you will find on most TV boxes, some functions are pure gimmicks, such as the USB port speed option. The new AMlogic SOC is an improvement on the S922X and derivatives but in terms of power it does lag behind the Rockchip RK3588(s), which has now been here for nearly 10 months. That Antutu score really does show how far behind this SOC actually is. The RK3588S can achieve than 600k. I worked out that if |I shop around I can get an N100 mini PC with 8Gb RAM, 256Gb NVME storage AND a Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd Gen for not much more than this once I took shipping and VAT into account. So I can get Dolby Vision one way or another wit so many other advantages to boot. At this price (and this is pre-sale, which always goes up afterwards), it is really poor, all thigs considered. IMO, for AMLogic to succeed with this new SOC, it's pricing alone needs to be far more competitive and with vendors taking advantage of the real I/O options that it can offer. Ugoos decided to remain too far in the past and offer very little value at all. If you are going to go down the line of having a device with this SOC, I would advise waiting, especially to see what SBC boards may come as they may offer much better specs and a cheaper price too. And I’m afraid that this review is a little too much fan boy than balanced perspective. The one possible glimmer of hope for the SOC could come in the form of software development dependent upon the kernel and adoption into mainstream Linux, which is rather stalled with the RK3588 right now. That will also depend on how much open source support that AMLogic will provide (Mali GPU will never be officially supported).
I read through the entire comment and you make some valuable points. However, I wanted to cherry-pick one thing you said about the Fire TV stick being able to play Dolby Vision in comparison to the AM8. Now I'm not familiar with how difficult or costly it is to get Dolby Vision, but Dolby Vision was only available on the Netflix application. No matter how many files you play on the Fire Stick, Nvidia Shield, or other certified devices the Dolby Vision feature would not work. Only when played on Netflix. So that's what I was mainly trying to point out being the difference when it comes to Dolby vision.
Nvidia is not King not any more. The Nvidia she had a good run the longest SOC in history however other SOC's has caught up delivering higher benchmarks. Nvidia Shield would be king if they will provide a mobile version firmware for the box. So you are stuck with Android TV OS with no root access.
I'll never buy anything made by Zidoo again after the way they released the H6 pro. Never did bother to fix the Google play store issue, just ignored their customers and left it a complete bug riddled mess 💩

The h96 max v58 is a mess compared to this box i have both and the UT8 pro the UT8 PRO is fantastic im sending the H96 max back its wack the last good H96 max was the RK3399. but it stuck on 7.1
They used to be great in the early days but in the last 3 to 4 years they seemed strapped for budget not spending enough on a firmer development.
@@tvboxstop review on the ut8 pro pls mate would really appreciate this.
Really I enjoyed your video, keep it up, may I have a copy of the video samples that you used for this review? I mean HDR, DV and av1 etc..
I really appreciate the support. However, I stopped sharing the video samples due to copyright challenges. When I shared them people were uploading them to UA-cam and then filing copyright claims on my videos. Even the site where I downloaded them from received copyright claims from Dolby, and they had to remove their entire library.
@@tvboxstop I promise you I will not share with anyone just I will use it with my devices.
@@tvboxstopcan you please check if a kodi will works with the device espcially in kodi settings the gui support 2160 and White list support becuse I have a tv box Build in android TV does not support 2160 gui kodi and White list.
You can get some good test samples from here - kodi.wiki/view/Samples
I ran the Kodi application and its GUI works okay. The only issue I encountered was that it got a little glitchy around the Dolby Vision video playback.
im still using ugoos am6 plus and waiting for a new android tv box upgraded version but this box is not 64bit
Sadly it's not
are the apps and menu's laggy as with the x4q?
No not at all, this is a powerful chipset and its interface moved smoothly.
Does it use coreelec? Great review,
Not yet you have to wait for CoreElec to release a DTB image for it.
hi ,i search TWRP for am8 amlogic s928x , if someone have an idea please. thanks
What's the purpose of TWRP on the AM8 when it has a root switch?
hv seen that it doesnt support 59.940 & 23.976
only 60&50Hz only kinda negative point for me for some of videos especially VC-1/1080p playing!
hope new X96 X10 has it because of X96Max+Ultra(recent I'v use this Box) 59.xx/23.xx has had this
Stay tuned I believe those can be fixed with a firmware update
Great review, really good box, but no way am I paying more than 100 bucks.
Well bro you are not rooted get a good SOC high-performance these days below 100
AM8 is it had problem to recognize SSD/HDD more than 500GB when connected to USB 3.0/OTG
Do you remember the old ugoos launcher that was like a dial
Yes it was called the Ugoos TV launcher and it still available. You can find it on APKpure.
@@tvboxstop yup I have used it on the boxes from Wetek , always wondered what happened to them as they had a great following and xome cool features
When you say it reached maximum speed it the box's max capability or your WiFi speed is 150mbps and the box can use it all.
It reached the max speed of my network
Will this possibly be updated for android 12 in the future?
I don't have the answer to that. Judging from past models I don't think they will switch or upgrade to a higher Android version such as Android 12. If they do believe me they would release another model basically with the same hardware called the Max or Ultra. The new standard for Android 12 from what I have read is 64-bit. It has all the requirements to facilitate this, so it might as well be it marketing strategy.
@@tvboxstop thanks for the reply. Your undoubtedly right - they will save it so you have to buy another one. Not just a simple update.
Still this is a very impressive little box. Great channel too mate
I have a Dolby Vision movie on a flash memory. If I put the flash on, will Dolby Vision work or not?
Yes most definitely Dolby Vision works for self hosted videos on this latest model triggering the Dolby Vision feature on your TV that's the selling point, not only on Netflix and others.
Do the frames change automatically to 24 when playing a hosted movie on the Nova Player application?
Please try it and then reply please
Please reply
Yes it does with the automatic framerate switching feature
Süper bir TV box kaliteli güzel bir ürün ugoos pugb g oyun performansı nasıl acaba tanıtım videosu güzel olmuş teşekkürler saygılar
Evet PUBG harika oynuyor, buluttaki o adamla oynanan oyun PUBG nedir? İzlediğiniz için teşekkürler.
How is this compared to an nvidia shield?
The Nvidia shield is still better when it comes to raw hardware power. However it's running on Android TV or Google TV OS. This box runs on Android's mobile version, offering different kinds of formal features compared to the shield. It will not outperform the hardware performance of the shield, but it does offer play store and unique features such as root access switch, and Dolby Vision for self hosted videos that you cannot get on the Nvidia shield.
Does it support DV profile 7?
I don't have a Dolby Vision profile 7. In the review the blowing glass video is a Dolby Vision profile 8.1 UHD and I also tried the FHD format of this same video and they both trigger the Dolby Vision feature the on my TV. So I would want to assume that because it simply DV profile 8.1 it's backward-compatible in its ability to play profile 7. Yet I can be wrong.
@@tvboxstop i can provide you with a dolby vision profile 7 sample if you want to test it out
what tv u r using in this video
A TCL TV
@@tvboxstop it's obvious in the video i meant the exact model
How is this different than the sk1
They are exactly the same with the only difference being that the SK1 has Google Widevine level one with HDCP protection where you can use a modified version of Netflix to get HD 1080p and this is on the mobile version also.
how much was the import tax to uk anyone know
Don't know sorry
Still waiting for 64bit custom rom for any tv boxes.
Custom ROMs have somewhat fallen by the wayside since Amlogic was sold and manufacturing of new SOCs slowed down quite a bit
and another release fm "X96 X10"(soc928+G57) also waiting this review too pls+
Yes, I saw it. It will be here soon enough when my sponsors contact me.
Impressive
Cool
ugoos sk1 please
Sure
A perfect launcher for android box is ....the one you navigate with a MOUSE? What the hell, man...
Yes Ugoos usually don't deal with the Android TV OS version, they used the mobile version of Android with navigation bar and status bar.
is there an Android device that runs pure Android with Widevine security Level 1... i'm pretty sure the answer is NO but maybe someone knows something i don't
Not that I can recall
its not a computer so people should not complain being entitled.. its a tiny little box
Thanks
hi nick! I'm looking for a box want the best can you give me some help I'm ok to pay up to £200. thanks
Right now for mobile version it's Ugoos AM8, and for Android TV certified model is the Homatics Box R 4K Plus
LMAO!! Literally. I've been selling Android Boxes for a very long time. My Boxes have the same Specs and I retail them for $140. Even cheaper if my customer orders with a year of IPTV
How can it be the same specs?
The simple answer is they don’t. 🙄
A beasty processor and 32 bit mode os. Why.
Why is the big question? What's the reason for holding back. I don't know why they are doing this, it makes no sense.
The bluetooth is horrible on this device, u litterally have to sit on the damn machine in order to work.
I have noticed that devices running older versions of Bluetooth have difficulty running on devices with the latest version such as 5.2 and 5.3. When using older versions like 4.0 you get connectivity issues.
Mx player doesn't even support DV
I don't understand. I use the MX player and got Dolby Vision triggering on my TV this is because the hardware supports it and it has decoders.
@@tvboxstop it is well know that mx doesn't support DV, check it.
So this device could play my mkv uhd disc rips? And output the Dolby vision?
You can buy an n100 computer with less money
Indeed you can, but it's not Android nor can it deliver Dolby Vision from self-hosted Videos, can it?
I find very cheap remote sorry.
It's not all that bad
Box is expensive and remote is very cheap sorry, thanks for reply.@@tvboxstop
Just get an NVIDIA SHEILD TV. This looks crap bro. Cheap rubbish....NVIDIA IS KING.
Nvidia is not King not any more. The Nvidia she had a good run the longest SOC in history however other SOC's has caught up delivering higher benchmarks.
Nvidia Shield would be king if they will provide a mobile version firmware for the box. So you are stuck with Android TV OS with no root access.
Sheild tv pro is out dated , theres better streaming boxes out there , to many people mind stuck on sheild , just plain outdated
Will ps2 emulator and top andro games run smooth with high graphic?
Ather SX2 yes they will its GPU supports it
Just buy the new zidoo 9x pro 2023 version plays 4k iso 4k BDMV mkv av1 absolutely everything. I just got one absolutely amazing
Great thanks for the heads-up, it just might get featured in a video.
I'll never buy anything made by Zidoo again after the way they released the H6 pro. Never did bother to fix the Google play store issue, just ignored their customers and left it a complete bug riddled mess 💩
