I am a school teacher. I teach English at a public school in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.. I came to know about haiku poetry six or seven months ago. Then I came to know about tanka poems and very recently senryus. Now I am watching Ms Kala Ramesh, an Indian haiku writer. What she says one needs to know all of these short poetic forms to have mastery over haiku poems. Anyway I happen to see an Indian haiku writer. I feel thrilled. I would like sharpen my haiku writing skills. So far I have written around 180 haiku, tankas and senryus. Can any poet come to my rescue so that I will be able to compose all these types of artistic poems with all the real ingredients in them in tact. I am hopeful of getting help. Thank you Ms Kala Ramesh. I also convey my gratitude to this UA-cam channel. Lastly I must tender my grateful thanks to the interviewer, the gentleman!
Hi Partha Sarathy, Very happy to read your comment. Thrilled to know you write haikai too. If you can you give me your email id, I'll be able to contact you? Waiting for your reply.
Hello Michael and Kala Thanks a lot for this special interview. I felt it was more an "innerview" of understanding your journey and the spark plug that drives you to write with such confidence! Your eyes speak all the silence that conveys a million breath of all the images around you. Its such a proud feeling to be under your tutelage and I'm really humbled. The depth of your understanding is beyond all horizons. Thanks Michael for the wonderful conversations! It didn't seem at all like an interview!! I admire all the Advaita philosophy, the Upanishads, the Omkaara, the Five Elements and I thank my soul to have got in touch with haiku that relates so well with Vedic knowledge. Thank you Kala for encouraging us at every step. One more point of Thanksgiving to both of you for being such lovely Editors!! Thank you once again🙏
Lakshmi, I was clean bowled by your detailed feedback. Thank you so much. How do you do it ... each time you make your comment stand out. Such original ways of expression. much enjoyed reading your comment. Thank you so much.
I have never heard a more pure OHM! This interview is a testament to the enthusiasm, kindness and spirit of Kala Ramesh and Mike Rehling. Brilliant haikai poets and wonderful human beings. Thank you
Brilliant & inspiring interview dear Kala. Mike’s questions were great and your responses spontaneous & so filled with life’s joys. Your inner spirit shined all through. The Advait philosophy, Kabir ji’s doha and connecting it all your passion for haikai. Thoroughly enjoyed the conversation & your buoyant spirit. Looking forward to the new book. 💕💐Neena Singh
Thanks a million, Neena. How well you have worded your response. It touches me deeply. Words are so inadequate to express are core emotions and still that is what we are left with - I'm thankful for them. Thanks to Mike for calling me for this interview. He leads so well.
Kala Ma'am, the interview is insightful. Your views & experiences (stories) on life, philosophy, & Non-dualism are very much inspiring. Your take on the connection of human soul with the 5 elements is simply mind-blowing. And, yes, the "transportability" is what makes haiku distinct from the other forms of poetry. I enjoyed the interview a lot! Best wishes 💐
Wooh, that was one amazing interview. I loved it! Listening to Kala Ma'am's origins was a real treat. I hope you keep teaching haiku for years to come! Thank you for bringing this interview to everyone!
Wonderful wonderful interview Kala. You’re not just a great poet but very humble too. That elevates you more in my eyes. Respect! (How could you forget the title of your book?!! Haha I’ve been laughing). I absolutely loved Kabir’s Doha. That encapsulated all that you wanted to say. Congratulations on the gem of an interview. So proud to have you as my Guru. Waiting for the Harper Collins book!! Wow! Wishing you greater things. So well deserved. Thank you Mike for another great interview.
Firdaus, thank you so much. Ho. ho! Really, how can anyone forget the title of their own book! Strange things happen in life! Yes! *encapsulated* - this was the word I wanted and it escaped me there! I fumbled and left that word dangling, half-finished, in my interview!! :)) Firdaus, I felt so good reading your feedback. Clean bowled! Floored completely. Thank you once again.
Just watched the interview! It was so interesting from beginning to end. So much of our surroundings goes into the making of us, and it was delightful to listen to all the stories from your life. Love how you have kept your enthusiasm and passion alive! I feel honoured to have you as my teacher and be part of Triveni. Enjoyed very much the interaction between you and Michael Rehling! ❤️
One of the most inspirational interviews so far. Kala, your energy for the form is amazing. Loved Hemingway’s quote and your fabulous dew drop haiku. Thank you Mike for another great session.
Kala, I really enjoyed it. Your enthusiasm towards haiku and other art forms always takes the interview to an another level! Not surprisingly, it happened this time, too 😍 I absolutely loved to know how each childhood memory is a part of who you are as a poet, today. Yes, connect the dots and you’ll understand how you have come this far… Keep sharing the quotes that inspire you- loved the ones you did. Plus, teaching students and that too haiku, renga, haibun and what not is a cherry on top of the cake, Kala. Cherish each bite 🍰 I can weave in a lot of superlatives but yes, the film was equally fabulous right from the start. Best wishes, always!
Muskaan, What a detailed feedback. Thanks a million. It's so needed. Half the time we say and don't how it has been received by the listener. Your comment is reassuring.
Wonderful interview - so much passion for haiku, senryu, and other short forms of poetry. Great respect and interplay between Michael and Kala. I want to watch it again!
I did take many intensive workshops in haiku, tanka and haibun. Now I've started Haikai Mentorship Program with 7 mentors (including me) and we have around 50 students who have enrolled and the course started on 6 March and will end by 30th May : a 3-month course. So unless this mentorship program gets over - not thinking of any other workshops.
Absolutely lovely interview!
Thanks, Rohan.
