Dear Grand Isle residents. If your home was completely destroyed, please do not rebuild a permanent structure once more. Consider building a tiny home or purchasing an rv instead. Even if you had to build 2 tiny homes for the space you need, it would be cheaper in the long run to do this. That way, when ever a storm comes in, you can hitch up and go somewhere safe, taking all of your belongings with you. Consider placing a concrete pad to park and to run your utilities too. It is much easier to shovel off some sand and repark your home than it is to rebuild or reroof it every time a hurricane comes by. Just a thought you all might want to consider. Not sure if it legal to park on your properties like this, but it should be.
I was thinking the same thing only tiny homes. But rvs would work too. People need to be forced to evacuate. That is the problem. If everyone could just roll their homes down the road to safety, they would be better off. Lake charles is 3 hours away and they have power and plenty of places to plug in. All they would have to do is wait for the power to be fixed, shovel some sand off their concrete pads and repark their homes.
Seen alot of videos of this place but what about Golden Meadow and Cut Off? Why don't u all post some for Cut Off area. I have a brother that lives there and as of today still has no power. Seen only what video he has taken of things around that area.
People vacation here - big money maker. This is also a great fishing area. You are not going to live any further away from where you fish than you have to. Many of these are vacation homes and rentals. The homes that 'survived' still have damage from wind and waves. They were most likely built after Katrina.
@@BrianBourgeois- Insurance is required in most areas. You see all kinds of living conditions anywhere you go. The homes you speak of are quite expensive for the poorer people anywhere. How about making fire resistant homes out West? Or homes that can withstand blizzard and snow and ice in the north that contain their own heat source?
@@philgiglio7922 a hurricane is an potential threat every year and hurricane rated homes would be cheaper in the long run. im from areas like this i understand the cost issue, it would still be cheaper in the long run.
There is the old saying about the foolish building upon the sand. Time to move away from the oceans and only visit there occasionally . Let mother nature have her space.
Agree. I am thinking that the state could start buying the beachfront properties and eventually convert it back to raw land. Have it as a campground. Louisiana gets lots of hurricanes, and this will happen again and again. I am suprised there is even insurance for these properties.
@@philgiglio7922 You can't build in flood zone in a lot of places. I have lived near rivers that flood. Yes, there were homes there, but they were built before zoning restrictions. New structures were not permitted.

I think they’re going to change it to a Cat 5, after gathering all the information from the ground, and looking at the damage done. Was reported gusts of 180 mph in Port Fourchon, where Ida made landfall. Will be the strongest hurricane to ever hit Louisiana.
Looking at this type of destruction……. I guareen damnmn tee you if I were faced with rebuilding, I would put an Igloo type structure atop a platform on stilts. Not worrying about cosmetics but long lasting home…. That would stand after a cat5.

Biden and the rest of America are sick of bailing out idiots that build their houses on sand or below sea level. We all pay taxes but i dont see every state getting bailed out like the gulf states do all the time. Or getting our home owners insurance subsidized or fema trailer to live in like last time. Nope... All of us have to pay in to help clean up this mess. How about you all clean up your own mess for once and quit blaming biden for your poor choice in housing location. Why dont you ask trump to throw you some paper towels....i am sure that will fix everything.
@Tyler Hopkins those building techniques are only going to get more expensive. They should turn all of grand isle into a mobile home community where all the homes actually have to be mobile and forced to move when hurricanes come in. So like tiny homes and rv parks instead of 10 foot pillars everywhere. That would make more economical sense. That way these people have a place to stay while they wait three weeks for power. They can go to a campground or relatives house and just plug in there for a few weeks. Hell, even walmart parking lots will let you boon dock for a while.
Friends, repent of your sins. Accept peace with God as your Father. And accept Jesus Christ in your heart as your Lord and Savior. Who died and rose again to give you eternal life. And save you from hell and eternal torment

Time to give Grand Isle back to the gulf.
It’s so strange how one home is completely destroyed and the house next to it is not. Prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Newer Building codes and people having money to build stronger structures…
It’s all about the engineering & design.
Ancient cultures built round houses to avoid wind/storm damage. Future rebuilds should follow this common sense. Best Wishes to everyone affected 🙏
Exactly !!! Literally think outside the box.
No place to catch the wind & have it exert force. Just flow on by.

People should have RVs on the oceanfront. Then they can just drive away if a storm comes.

Well they should require a hurricane rated structure to have any kind of insurance there. You wouldn’t see this kind of damage if that was required.
Agree. It gets old for homeowners. Sooner or later they realize it and they sell.
