Classic Tool fan move: the ol’ “if you don’t like Tool, you just aren’t smart enough to get it” play. Come on you guys. At the end of the day they’re just a rock band. It’s not like you’re listening to some avant-garde jazz or classical piece. Get over yourselves

@EchoMountain47 Of course, you misunderstand what I meant, but that isn't surprising considering your post. Maybe my post was too long for you? Anyways, I'll try to simplify what I said so you can follow along. Tool writes long songs, and you need to have a decent attention span to really appreciate all the nuiances packed into them. They aren't the 3:30 verse, chorus, verse, bridge, outro type songs that are radio friendly. If that's what you like, great! Rock out! But, you need to understand that doesn't do it for everyone. Some people need a little more in their music to scratch that itch, and Tool does it for a lot of people.

I’m a poser who prefers Graves era over Danzig. It’s solely because the Danzig stuff sounds like it was recorded live through a laptop mic.

I’m a little late this time, apologies Finn.
I think you’ve shared your opinion on misfits before, in a previous video and it’s really the only thing I disagree with you on. Graves era Misfits was iconic!
However, when I saw the “Cincinnati chili” image, I immediately thought it was “makaronia me kima” which is essentially what you call “Greek spaghetti sauce” 😂
So there you have it, you earned your like once again ❤

I think modern production sucks because triggered/programmed drums played to a click and then further edited for any imperfection.
And the massive amount of compression in the mixing and mastering that’s popular right now.
Those two factors remove so much of the tension and dynamics that made the pre digital era of production so much more compelling.

I am a casual TOOL enjoyer, I listen to Opiate and Fear Innoculum only and have yet to actually dive into the other albums (though I have heard many of their most famous songs)
I'm sure that the hardcore fans probably consider these blasphemous statements and im okay with that

Not blasphemous. It's just interesting that you've heard only their first and last album. Isn't it interesting, though, hearing the evolution of their sound?

Tool just has so many layers to their post 2000 albums. They mastered the art of recording an album. I was telling a friend the other day that tool must know how there albums are gonna sound while tripping also. I basically believe that danny carey and adam jones witch craft is paying off.

I’ve listened to Tool since I first heard Prison Sex in 93 or so. I’ve never gotten caught up in the insanity behind the fan base and Maynard’s lyric meanings. And if this song goes along with this song. You can’t deny the talent of Danny Carrey. You can’t deny Maynard’s ability to make prog music digestible for the masses.

I'm a bacon hipster; I loved it before it was cool, before the internet. If you know how to cook it properly, then no, it's definitely not overrated. But of course you're going to think differently if all you eat is the dry, overcooked crap they serve for hotel breakfast. EVERYTHING hotel breakfast is crap. Would you also badmouth scrambled eggs, just because the hotel variety tastes like congealed cardboard?

Famous Monsters is really catchy, it's a fun record. Forbidden Zone, Scream, Saturday Night, Descending Angel, Fiend Club are really good imo. I can't really compare the Danzig and Graves era Misfits tbh, it's like 2 different bands.

Speaking of Sepultura, Max and Igor (Cavalera Conspiracy) rerecording the early albums has been awesome. Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation, and Schizophrenia still hold that old raw sound but just cleaned up a bit and mastered in a way you can hear it all. They really kept the soul of those albums. It really shows you can record something with todays tech and keep the sound of a late 80's underground release.

That Sepultura album sith skull is my all time favorite metal record from old school. The skeletal (no pun intended) producttion , tight playing , writing all on point. Taking into account knowing how more cool they gonna get in the future makes it even more hard. This is like “Resrvoir Dogs” of Sepultura. Dont know how to explain it.

Sure Graves-era misfits might not be “the misfits”, but it’s definitely a fun album and Saturday night especially is a great tune. I could be wrong about this, but I get the impression that they were just going out there and doing what they loved doing without Glenn. I also love how it’s a punk album that is completely apolitical.
