🤘 The Real Names of Famous Rock Stars | David Bowie, Slash, Jon Bon Jovi
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 кві 2024
- Over the decades, countless musicians have ditched the birth names bestowed upon them by their parents in favour of more striking and memorable stage names.
Some monikers are slight tweaks of their birth name (Jon Bon Jovi, John Paul Jones and Jimi Hendrix), whereas others have ditched them altogether in favour of something much more stage friendly (Alice Cooper, Slash, Freddie Mercury).
Including Slash, Stevie Nicks, Gene Simmons, Alex Lifeson and Freddie Mercury

Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey)
@Eugenia-xv1nt him wife real name Mary Cox
He is the most obvious omission and the most famous musician using a stage name.
Pat Benetar's birth name is Patricia Mae Andrzejewski. She had two husbands Benetar and Giraldo.
Cliff Richard - Harry Rodger Webb
David Essex - David Albert Cook
Prince - Prince Rogers Nelson
Cher - Cherilyn Sarkisian
Eric Clapton real name is Eric Patrick Clapton. He was raised by his grandparents whose surname was Clapp. The similarity in surnames gave rise to the erroneous belief that Clapton's real surname is Clapp (Reginald Cecil Clapton was the name of Rose's first husband, Eric Clapton's maternal grandfather).
just think if he had the clap after changed his name to clapton, then he'd have to do the whole process all over again
I met Alice Cooper once, I was at work and was amongst a crowd of people and didn’t want to make a scene, so I said “By the way is your name Vincent Furnier?” He was very cool and I think that he was glad that I didn’t yell out “Hey! It’s Alice Cooper!”.
Furnier sound French...
@@Francesco1044 It was probably Fournier at the beginning which is a common name in French Canada and came from France and some ancester most likely modified the surname as (Fort)Détroit became English speaking for over 200 years. Windsor on the other side of the bridge was 30% French (Canadian) not so long ago and there is still many streets names in French in both cities.
I like how some of the stage nanes are a play on their real names/or use part of theur real names whereas others are like " um yeah , my name is toooooo long or difficult to pronounce , so just call me _____"
Francesco Castelluccio (Frankie Valli)
Gene Simons is actually Israeli as is his mother, he was taken to the USA as a child & is a dual national
Buckethead - Brian Carroll
Flea is actually Australian, by the way. He was born and grew up in Melbourne.
Purely due to the fact she is one of my favourites. Gaynor Hopkins = Bonnie Tyler
You futzed up on two names. Pat Benatar was born Patricia Andrzejewski. Giraldo is her married name, not her birth name. Lou Reed's paternal name was Rabinowitz. His father changed the family name to Reed. How you arrived at the name Firbank is truly mind-boggling?
yeah, he's a Benatard for doing that.
Rest in Power, Lemmy. You and Motörhead were awesome in concert. Webster Theater, Hartford, March 15, 2005.
My grandmother who is 95 years old loves Motorhead, believe it or not. She thinks that Lemmy had a very special voice.
How about Jeffery Ross Hyman, Douglas Glenn Colvin, John William Cummings and Thomas Erdelyi? Better known as Joey, Didi, Johnny and Tommy Ramone. Or Sir Michael Phillip Jagger, Sir James Paul McCartney, Sir Richard Starkey (Ringo), and Sir Reginald Kenneth Dwight (Elton). Roberta Joan Anderson (Joni Mitchell) , Carol Joan Klein (Carole King), Dino Paul Corcetti (Dean Martin)
hyman😏
@@Neppy1414 Insert Beavis and Butthead
Cliff Richard.
@@jasoncromwell4206 You know the diffrence between a real name (Paul McCartney) and an artist name (Reginald Kenneth Dwight)? Everyone knows who Paul McCartney his, without his first name James. But not all people know immediatly who Reginald Kenneth Dwight is.
@@Noel-ji8nm Harry Rodger Webb.
Nice that you distinguish between drummers and musicians
It's better than Chris Jericho only being labeled a wrestler.
@@eldiablo7862 drums are like...musical instruments n stuff'eth.
I can see why Rudy Sarzo changed his name to many names for one person😅
Having 2, 3 or more middle names is common with Mexicans, Cubans, Italians, etc!
@@spaceace1006
And French people.
yeah, just think if he was also a jr . oof
Old European Naming Convention in America Example: ‘William Richard Johannes von Holderbrecht of California South in Orange County East’. 😲
Sadly so many of them are clearly hiding Jewish surnames. Cool how Alex Lifeson’s given name translates into ‘son of life’ which is pretty cool.
Joey Ramone ~ Jeffrey Hyman
Johnny Ramone ~ John Cummings
Dee Dee Ramone ~ Douglas Colvin
Tommy Ramone ~ Thomas Erdelyi
Marky Ramone ~ Marc Bell
Richie Ramone ~ Richard Reinhardt
Elvis Ramone ~ Clem Burke
C. J. Ramone ~ Christopher Joseph Ward
Eno ~ Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno
What about that last one?
So many Italians
I was gonna say so many jews
Yeah both guess those names would not be cool enough

Pat Benatar is interesting in that she kept the name of her first husband after the divorce. Good call as it's a hard hitting name, and easier to pronounce that her maiden name, Andrzejewski. Just as she hit big she married her guitarist Neil Giraldo. They've been married 42 years, and counting. She doesn't tour as Pat Benatar. It's always Pat Benatar, and Neil Giraldo.
42 years? They belong, they belong, they belong together.
@@TheTrumpReaper I see what you did there.
@@TheTrumpReaperTRUMP2024!❤

My maiden name was also Polish, one letter longer than Pat’s. I kept my married name after a divorce cuz it was much easier, only 7 letters!
Robert Zimmerman (Bob dylan) anda Axel Rose original lastname was Bailey
Axl
I think Bailey was the step father
Tina turner is not Swiss. She lived her last days of retirement there.
Exactly👍
Might as well be swiss. Got hit in the face so much might as well change countries 😆
She was Swiss becouse She reject the U.S. citizenship in order tò got the Swiss One...
James Kavanaugh Tina Turner was a American-born singer, but she left America and became a Swiss citizen, because there were a lot of disagreements from Tina and other tragically stuff that happened to her, that’s why she left America and she remained living in Switzerland until her passing away
I know all that. But she was still an American singer🤷♂️. When did she get a Swiss passport? When did she move too Switzerland?
Well, for Alex Lifeson should be Aleksandar Živojinović (Александар Живојиновић). And "Lifeson" is litteral english translation of serbian Живојиновић.
Interesting!
I knew a couple in my hometown who were Alice Cooper's next door neighbors when he was a teenager in Glendale, Arizona.
Cool
Gee, thanks for sharing...
@@marshmallow3359 I enjoyed the information.
I bet it's hard to be Goth in Glendale Arizona.
Stevie Wonder was born StevIand Hardaway Judkins
Great to see Blackie Lawless and Nikki Sixx (Frank Carlton Ferrano) in this!
Rick Springfield: Australian-American: 🇦🇺🇺🇲 Singer/Actor/Writer/Producer Born: 1949 Age: 74 Real Name: Richard Lewis Springthorpe.
Disappointed you don't have Peter Thomas Ratajczyk, or Peter Steele of Type O Negative.
Never heard of the majority of them !
I think you dont like rock and metal.
I think I don't like American rock amd metal 😕
Jimi hendrix. Real name was James Marshall Hendrix
He was born Johnny Allen Hendrix but his name got changed to James Marshall when he was a child
@@kylebentley7512
People just don’t know how to google. Johnny is correctly his given name at birth. People always want to incorrectly correct it and say it’s James.
@@kylebentley7512 Johnny was a schoolboy when he heard his first Beatles song.
Thank you!
@BlackHatCinephile love me do I think it was
Leon Russell, Claude Bridges
Pink born Alecia Moore, Katy Perry born Katy Hudson, Lady Gaga born Stefanie Germanotta.
These are pop stars, this video is about rock musicians
So many unfamous people I gave up when it hit me with the first commercial about half way through.
Gene Simmons ‘Klein witz’ means ‘little joke’ in German (‘kleiner Witz’) 😂😂
And Gene doese come up with his joking antics too lol
Maybe he is over compensating all his life because of it
90% of the names on this list fall under the who gives a damn category.
Or just the "who?" Category.
These posts are usually crap
Rick Zerringer became Rick Derringer. The change made him more recognizable and remembered. And his career is as big as you can get. His accomplishments are all over. Writing, playing, producing and most important staying alive all these years.
I can understand why some change their names, being hard to spell or pronounce, or kind of lame sounding. But I don't get why a backing musician like Bill Wyman can't remain Bill Perks or why Steven Adler can't be Michael Coletti. I mean, how often does anyone call them by name anyway? A front man understandably can't be some dorky name but who cares what a drummer's name is, really?
Bill legally changed his name to Wyman in August 1964. He had some issues with his father. He won a placement to a grammar school but was forced to drop out before taking his GCE after his father found him a job & insisted he take it. It's not always about the biz. Although Wyman does sound a bit cooler than Bill Perks.
Totally agree there were like 60% where you go “ok bon Jovi is bongiovi but altered” but my god the standout handful who went way out of their way? Although I’ll take out of that group the black blues guys. Muddy waters is a KILLER name, that’s exactly what that man needs to be called
You changed your name to Latrine...
Yeah. Used to be Shⁱthouse!
Bowie looks like he had a good reason at last
Bob Dylan was Robert Zimmerman.
A few I didn't know their original name, wow.
Synyster Gates' real name is Brian Hayner Jr. He's the guitarist for A7X.
Rob zombie and spider one are brothers who grew up in Haverhill, MA. Can't remember their given last name but IIRC Spider One's first name is Michael.
Went and Googled it; their last name is Cummings.
Never heard of most of them
Jimi Hendrix (James Marshall Hendrix)
Notice a pattern there of a lot of American musicians with Spanish or Italian last names adopting more Anglo stage names, but then several British musicians who adopted more Spanish/Italian stage names.
Many Jews, Italians and Hispanics in business and entertainment took on English names in the past century, mainly to “ fit in” and avoid hassles… which is not the case with Brits taking on non English names.
How about Elton John aka Reginald Kenneth Dwight
Pop star, not rock star.
And his middle name is Hercules....lol
Interesting list. But you have a significant portion here, who are neither "famous" nor "rock"........But that's okay. The R&R HOF has dozens now enshrined who are totally unqualified. 🤣
didn't alice legally change his name to "alice cooper." or at least "Alice furnier" so technically his real name is Alice, at least it is now
Yes. His children are using Cooper as surname. He's been a reincarnation of a New England witch named...Alice Cooper, during the 13 colonies.
Rock music forever🎸
But not on the video, I had to turn the volumen off. My gawd.
I'm surprised that Rat Scabies isn't his real name. Just goes to show...
That would be so cool .
I used to know a guy real first name, Chainsaw.
Glenn Danzig - Glenn Allen Anzalone, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein - Paul Caiafa, Jerry Only - Gerald Caiafa, Tom Araya - Tomás Enrique Araya Díaz, Marilyn Manson - Brian Hugh Warner
A lot of the British names are common British nicknames for anyone with a certain surname..
Is that so? Like which ones in particular?
So basically, there aren't any famous rock star younger than 40 yrs old
You named the bands they were with only for a couple. Would like to see all of them with bands associated with their stage names.
See my post !
Johnny Allen Hendrix birth name.Real name James Marshall Hendrix changed legally by his dad
Geddy’s real name was Gershwin/Gershin and Alex Lifeson’s real name is GOAT!
2 Members of KISS who didn't change their names..Bruce Kulick and Thomas C. "Tommy" Thayer.
Eric Singer shortened his last name from Mensinger.
Ace kept his last name too. The only thing he changed was his first name which was a nickname and they already had a Paul in the band.
Yep and Eric Carravelo
Joey Ramone: Jeffrey Ross Hyman
Johnny Ramone: John William Cummings
Dee Dee Ramone: Douglas Glenn Colvin
Tommy Ramone: Thomas Erdelyi
Interesting. I thought there was a least 2 brothers in the band. Maybe?
Pretty sure Axl's last name is Bailey. Not Rose
Bailey was the step father.
Might as well un-mask Hulkko as well, iif you list Fagerholm here.😊
One of the musicans real name is Klein Witz, translated from german into english: Little Joke.
Kristy Mariana Wallace ( poison ivy - the cramps ) , Johnny rotten _John lydon
Jimi Hendrix's real name is James Marshall Hendrix. He was born Johnny Allen Hendrix but his dad later changed it to James Marshall Hendrix.
I never knew Steven Tyler was my namesake.
Pat Benatar's birth name is Patricia Mae Andrzejewski. Benatar was her first husband's name. Giraldo is her current husband's name.
Bon Scott, you have as Australian. He was born in Scotland.
He was more Australian than Scottish regardless
@Rob-uu1ic was born and raised in Scotland.
Bon could even play the bagpipes! He's way Scottish!
They did have dual flags for multiple artists. He easily should’ve had 2.
Fun fact. Gene said he had an Australian accent back in the days.
Duff McKagan - Michael Andrew McKagan
Izzy stradlin- Jeffrey Dean Isbell
Mick mars-Robert Alan Deal ❤
Pat Benatar is listed under her married name. Her maiden name is Polish.I don't feel like googling it.
Was just getting ready to ask
Pat Benatar came from a man she was once married to with the last name Benatar
Andrzejewski.
With Rudy Sarzo’s epic real name, I would’ve went with Max Grande!
Im so disappointed that Nikko McBrain isn't his real name. At least the McBrain part is real. Jimi Hendrix was James Marshall Hendrix, not John something or other.
What's with your order? How about a list of musicians who did not change their names?
What about the Ramones ??
Benatar's birth name was andrzejewski
Gene Simmons tem o nome mais judeu do planeta
damn, the guy at #6 had 9 names.
Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) Bob Dylan (Robert Allan Zimmermerman)
Axl's real last name is Bailey, not Rose
Until he was 18, his last name was Bailey, which is his stepfather's last name, and his father's last name was Rose, so Axl officially changed his last name to Rose, so now Rose is his real last name
@@NamikSokolovic3778 Its a joke: Axl Rose is an anagram.

Where’s Jimmy the REV in A7X?
why do the brits have a templars cross instead of the union jack???
The Union Jack is the flag of Great Britain. The red cross on the white field is the flag of England.

Ringo Starr is Richard Starkey

You missed on Jimi Hendrix. James Marshal Hendricks
Suomi mainittu! Torilla tavataan! (Finland is mentioned! Let's meet at the market place!) :-)
Pat Benatar's last name is only Giraldo because she's married to Neil Giraldo.
I thought it was James Marshall Hendrix ??
Bob Dylan : Robert Zimmerman
Seems like most of the British Rockers just go by their nickname.
There are a lot of names I can understand changing because their real name is to hard to say or remember.
Might want to double-check Jimi Hendrix’s real name.
You left out Flea. His real name is Michael Peter Balzary.
Marilyn Manson- Brian Warner
How about Punky Meadows Edwin Meadows
Should’ve said birth name, not real name. A few of these have legally changed their name so that is their real name now.
No Robert James Ritchie?
Axel Rose real last name is not Rose! It’s Bailey! He was known locally as Bill Bailey.
Axl.
Patricia Mae Andrejewski before she married her guitarist.
like how 4 of them were named for the bands, U2, queen but the rest it's like...go ahead and figure it out yourself
