I know my friend,I met Birelli when he was only 13 yrs old, he had a big Belgian D'Bass player,a dazzling player even then. Well, here we have a mystery ?-I play gypsy jazz myself, I played guitar in early 70's with a man who played with Django- Dizz Dizzly.(he played with Django in London after World War 2. late 40's I think) I still play 'Shine' & 'Them there Eyes' now & then,they are definately not the same..but hey life is too short to argue over criss crossed ideas.Lets just Enjoy.! R'grds.
Thomas Dutronc a un très bon niveau, regardez la vidéo Manoir de mes rêves d'Angelo Debarre, ses solos sont très bien torchés. Et comme disent musicowaco et kazanis il a le mérite de ramener un peu d'attention vers le jazz manouche...
Thomas n'a pas le même niveau mais il tient son rang, il joue super bien. Le jazz manouche a besoin de notoriété et Thomas aide dans ce sens. C'est pas en jouant dans une caravane que la cause manouche va gagner en reconnaissance. Django a été l'instigateur de ce renouveau et tous ceux qui jouent manouche contribue, gadjo y compris. Angelo a du se donner un coup de rasoir malencontreux mais il a mis ses pompes style prohibition.
The Tune is, " Shine"- (not 'Them there Eyes ') but thanks for putting it up..& by the way, Anyone wanting to know who the Best Gypsy guitarist is,? aught to ask a another 'Gypsy Guitarist, &especially a top class reputation'- because, I've found in this way 'They all admire each other-'& for different reasons, & they all know & secretly have there own favourites,and who the real King is !!..(Gypsies are one big family) but why not just enjoy-& thank eliep37..great stuff.!!. True, not every song has to have a melody. Especially, Them There Eyes. I look at Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Henry Mancini, all those songs they wrote that didn't have a melody line, and folks are still humming notes that they hope are the songs these almost famous composers wrote. The late Joe Pass, a great guitarist said, "Play the melody first, and then go into the harmonies and improvisation". I'll go with Joe's motto and look for the melody first.

Ne vous moquez pas du très respectable Dutronc. Demqndez-vous plutôt pourquoi tous ces guitaristes manouches, ou non, confondent hommage à Django et 24h du manche. Django, lui, savait ralentir et jouer des phrases sublimes, dont on se souvient encore...
Dans ce cas concernant Django tu as une mémoire sélective ou bien tu souffres de la maladie d'alzheimer car sur l'album " pêche à la mouche " sur certains morceaux " électrisés " Django abuse de gammes supersoniques, c'est même gonflant par moment, voilà pourquoi le regretté Les Paul n ' avait pas du tout aimé Django dans ce registre !

Pour Thomas Dutronc franchement c'est pas top. le premier solo est difficile on sent qu'il l'a travaillé. pour le reste il ne fait que pomper mais c'est déjà difficile et un grand honneur d'accompagner des légendes. Histoire de bien le redire... ;)
