Superstar Tina Turner performs a cover of a Barbra Streisand song " Watch Closely Now " and then she is changing and sings a medley with Cher.
It is from the Sonny & Cher Show aired 11 March 1977.
This is Tina's 3rd appearance on the show but the 1st after the divorce from Ike.

No point comparing Streisand and Turner. They are both the greatest female singer of all time in their respective genre.
I love those old musical show. 70s music show are better than the contemporary ones.
You can feel every bit of emotion she puts in this song....

Tina had just left Ike. Sonny and Cher had divorced, had their own shows and joined again for this one. This song always seemed like Tina's declaration of independence to me; I think she's singing to Ike, particularly the end, "You're gonna want me baby when I'm not around, but I can take it, I won't look down."

traboe you know I never understood it when people say Tina sold old by singing rock and roll ie white music. Needless to say rock and roll is black music, and she sang it with all the soul and charisma of her Tennessee Baptist upbringing.

I think these are Tina’s experimentel times! She is a first a Blues Singer and second a Rock singer - or just an Entertainer. She had a very beautiful speaking voice and it‘s a pleasure to listen to her! It was Cher who came to visit her at home a few times before she passed - at the end she could even wisper! 😢

I'll say this; the first 2 minutes and 52 seconds of "Watch Closely Now" aren;t some of my favorite Tina vocals, but when she flips that hair back at 2:53: Barbara who? Just kidding, Barbara Streisand and her version is very lovely indeed. Both Legendary Ladies.

I think Tina's purpose of doing this was to prove that she could do more than just dance and "scream"..... she wanted to be known for more than Ike and Tina, and was trying to be different.....

Hearibg someone else sing a song Barbra Streisand has basically made famous is always a big challenge.....Streisand certainly has a way of putting her stamp on a song that very few can match.
Likewise, Barbara would miserably fail if she attempted to cover Tina Turner's signature songs.

No. This was the second version of the Sonny and Cher show as I said. They had divorced, had separate shows that weren't ratings winners and reunited for this show, which ran from 76-77.

I lowkey prefer the Kris Kristofferson version over both tina turner and Streisand's versions. They clearly have the better voices but I quite like the upbeat but rough feel the song has when its done as a rock song by him. Just found it odd no one really is mentioning him in the comments.
