  • Captain Jason Halvorsen gives a technical tour of the expedition yacht MARCATO upon its returns from a 16,000 mile expedition to Patagonia and the Galapagos.
    MARCATO is an ocean-proven passage-maker built of steel and aluminum and designed for low maintenance, offering a huge array of on board amenities & facilities, while offering luxury yacht accommodations along with an 8000 NM range. Under 500GT.
    A multi-million dollar refit, including new interior and expansion of owner's deck plus new paint, was completed at Rybovich in 2018. See extensive UPGRADES list in the Details section below.
    Large capacity 7-ton crane on foredeck allows for carrying large tender, motorcycles, submersible and other assorted fun-makers that other yachts in this size range can not carry.

    As a Canadian I was proud to learn that it was built and built very well at a Canadian shipyard! 5/8 hull steel is considerably thicker than most yachts this size. Many are only 1/4 inch thick. I love this as this contributes to excellent stability having that weight down low below the waterline. Captain Jason, I assume this vessel is ice class? If I win a very large lottery here in Canada I would love to own this little ship and sail the seven seas. I would also hope the crew would stay with the ship, Jason strikes me as someone I could easily work with and learn from. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. It sold me on this vessel far more than pretty pictures of luxury living and toys. Thank you.

      She is not ice-class because of her bulbous bow, but she has been in the ice.

    May I ask why FW ballast? SW ballast can be moved around just fine. Seems like unnecessary waste of energy generating all that FW for ballast.

      This owner generally did not want salt water inside his vessel. The engines were fresh water cooled with coolers built into the hull.

    I can't imagine buying this instead of a shadow marine global. It's over 200 ft and 1/3 the price with better basically everything

    • @dougtarbet6193
      @dougtarbet6193 3 роки тому

      Well I’m sure M/Y Global is a very capable yacht however I would rather use 18,000 gals of fuel to go 8,000 NM than nearly five times as much to go 10,000 NM. Neither are environmentally friendly but it’s clear the M/Y Marcato is far more efficient. Not to mention that M/Y Global has nearly double the crew complement and at 80 feet longer it could only provide two more staterooms? The costs of operating M/Y Global would be exponentially higher with only two more staterooms to charter. No thanks. M/Y Marcato is the perfect size in my view.

  • @jamesmerkel9442
    @jamesmerkel9442 3 роки тому

    $10 million pretty steep air w/toys & all refit though, she might b worth it to explorer nut but at that price might b able to get helo pad too, & this is short for helo & that price pnt. Any1 going to artic will want helo most likely. Only spot to add 1 would b if round platform on raised bow. Bad weather u would hve to take off just to b sure helo was safe.

  • @jamesmerkel9442
    @jamesmerkel9442 3 роки тому

    If they extend to 155 ft helo could hide down inside front area, & at that length & aviation fuel storage it would b worth $10 million.

      This vessel has excellent stability. Most yachts have more structure above deck level. It's deceiving to the eye because of all the open deck space.

      I don’t think it’s any more unstable than a sailboat? With a steel hull and ballast , along with all the fuel, oil , water and waste tanks in the hull this would be a very stable boat

    Why the need to use the term "Expedition ". When there is solo boaters that also travel far flung places .. whose sail boats cost an absolute fraction to other overly priced vessels . What was the vessel used for in it's previous life ???? Sure as hell looks like a converted Fishing Trawler ...
    The term yacht is overly mis used imo

    • @aarongranger
      @aarongranger 4 роки тому +3

      Most expedition yachts look like that. They aren’t the pretty, sleek, Italian-designed ships. They are more rugged (made to be comfortable in heavy seas and harsh weather). They are generally more economical in their use of fuel (trading speed). They are made to take you anywhere you want to go with all of the toys you want in full comfort. They look like commercial work boats as they are built to the same standards and for a purpose that is closer to a work boat (safety at sea in all conditions) that a boat that is made for hopping islands in the Bahamas.

      Why would anyone buy a Toyota Land Cruiser when you can get a lot more comfort, amenities, fuel economy, and seating in a Chrysler Pacifica Limited for less than half the price?
      Because your Pacifica can't get you in AND out of places like this:

      @@aarongranger The term was never used for any vessels in the past it's a newly created term for ignorant dimwits that seem to think that vessels given that term are the only ones capable of transatlantic range and beyond . When there is channels on this very site and none of there vessels is described "Expedition ". It's purely a marketing term nothing more .

    • @Irishandtired
      @Irishandtired 3 роки тому

      @@colintraveller Not really. Explorer yachts are those I would consider to have long range and constructed for heavy seas. Expedition to my mind would say ice class steel. I think you're just trying to look clever when your point is actually moot.
