I always gravitated towards the same-era Warlock, but no question the Lil' Red Express was a super-cool truck and worth a ton today. Always great to see Steve emparting his vast storehouse of knowledge, thanks High Octane Classics!
I had one of these trucks in 1979. I miss it so bad. I’m trying to find one to this day. This one is too modified for me., wrong Rim’s dash is all changed , chrome rails on top of the box is not stock, and inside the box needs a paint job, great video thank you Steve, and I’ll keep looking
So glad to see Steve back at it again, and I to have a fondness for those trucks. Some of my first work on cars was helping my dad restore a 79 lil red Express.
especially with those mid/late '70s "Adult Toys" line! I had a '78 Dodge Street Van with the 360 4bbl, side pipes, shag carpet, CB, 8 track player, mini bar, custom bed & Cragar SS mags on BFG white letters
These were definitely a drool vehicle in the late 70s. Quick, fast, good looking, and practical all in one. They must have been more popular around here because I was surprised by the low production numbers. Thank you High Octane Classics, Super Shane, and Mr Magnante ~ Chuck
Had a 1979 L'il Red Express! I can tell from looking, that one's a restomod and been repainted, the pinstriping from the factory was more elaborate than that example. still a great truck though! Loved mine, wish I stll had it.
I always thought those trucks were so cool! The upgrades are tasteful and I fully approve and appreciate them. Whoever buys that one is getting a sweet truck!
Awesome to see you back at it sir. I have a documented '79 Lil Red. The saying for these things was like the former muscle cars. They could pass everything but a gas pump.
Steve brings a lot of credibility to these guys and their generosity in helping him speaks volumes. Always loved these trucks! Also saw White Line Fever at the theatre in the 70’s. great movie and great reference Steve. A lucky buyer gets this one!
Great feature! Can’t say I was a fan of the Lil Red Express or Mopar in general but I love the back story leading to the creation of that package. They were righteous performance machines in their day and deserve looks. Seems like GMC offered a 1500 “street coupe” with a 454 around the same time.
Good video and informative. I was 18 when these came out. Most of us would have been embarrassed to be seen in one. They rusted so fast, in 3 years they were more of a mess
I remember seeing a few of those driving around back in the early 80s! Beat up and all! Amazing how much money they can bring these days! Who would have thought! Great video Steve!😎👍
I'd like to have heard the whole story, Dodge had a midnight express at the same time, then the warlocks and dodge toys a little later. Steve is awesome. He has the info.
As you said, big rigs were the "in" thing in the 70s, and CB radios were everywhere. I remember this one was a big deal back then. And maybe you remember one of my favorite Revell model kits of the day - the "Sneaky Pete." It was a Chevy stepside with stacks and a big rig front end.
Had a 77 step side Dodge. Pick up like that, it wasn't that model. It was more of the standard step side type. Had a custom paint job on it. Got a lot of looks with the pin stripping. No details. All done by hand. With a 360 2 barrel in it. It was unique in its own way
You Rock Steve....I like the Warlock better Imo. Needs the stock gauges put back the stock column shifter ditch that ratchet on the floor get rid of that nasty tach on the dash and that screen and the ONLY mod needed is a Tough Wheel.
Couldn't click on this one fast enough. Hey Steve, you're looking and sounding better and better with every video. Shows the healing power of doing something you love to do.
My first new truck I bought in 1978 was a similar styled 78 GMC "Step-Side" short bed, had a straight six with 4 on the floor stick shift, and had the upgraded GMC interior with bucket seats and center console with the factory white spoke "wagon wheels" which were popular at that time. I wanted to add the exhaust stacks, but they were kind of pricey at that time. I remember a couple of the Little Red Express trucks running around my area at the time, didn't realize there were so few of them made.
Great video love these trucks, would love to have one in my garage. My neighbour has one that he’s had for probably 25+ years but needs some restoration
I had a chance to buy one of those at Neal Pope Ford in Georgia back in 1984. I'd never seen one, never heard of one but thought it was something somebody had made themselves. Should have got it.
Awesome muscle truck! In 1979 I was driving around in a new for ‘79 a Toyota 4X4 pickup truck. Yes, I had a Cobra 40 channel am/fm CB radio in it. 😅 Thanks Steve and thanks to Danny for the ride. Take care!🙏🏼
Great ta see you doin' the do, Steve!! The LRE has always been way cool, but I actually dig the Warlock a little bit more - the Kenworth stacks look better against a black background, IMHO. Plus, I've also heard that a few of the Warlocks came off the line with 4-bbl. 400 cid mills, instead of the 360 HO's. Either way, it's just really hard to screw up a short box step side, no matter who builds one, or how much bling it's doused in......😎
I miss my 77 Dodge D100 Adventurer pick-up. It didn't have the step side bed. The previous owner was a logging company. So it didn't have a straight panel on it other than the hood. The bumpers were mangled from pulling and pushing trees. But it was still a great truck. 2WD 360 automatic. Would love to find another one
In 76 the warlock started out before the lil red came in 1978. Lil red only offered the police 360 . Warlock offered slant 6 , 318 , 360 and a 440 and 4 wheel drive. I ran the 1/4 mile with a friends 79 lil red bone stock 19000 orig mi,s. It did 15.4 at new england dragway in 1983.
So good to see Steve back in action.
Thank you High Octane Classics. We ALL love Steve and glad to see him on your videos. That's a win win !!
Awesome to see Steve doing his thing again and sharing his gift of knowledge with us. Thank you, Steve!
Being a MOPAR guy for 60 yrs THIS is one of my favorite trucks & always wanted one! Still looks better than any Ford or Chevy today ✌💖☮
wish i had a 70s Monaco -- i did have a 73 Roadrunner 440 in 77 when in high school -- geez the time went by too fast
@@gordonhall9871 My grandpa ran our local MOPAR dealership 1946-1979 & my Hi Skool car was a '73 Plymouth Fury III 2dr Sport Coupe 360 4bbl
Yeah me too! I was a senior in high-school when they came out
I always gravitated towards the same-era Warlock, but no question the Lil' Red Express was a super-cool truck and worth a ton today. Always great to see Steve emparting his vast storehouse of knowledge, thanks High Octane Classics!
Great to see you doing well Steve , thank-you for all your knowledge and information, take care and stay well 👍
Great job Steve I am old enough to remember them on the lots & road end of the 70's.
I cant stand when owners put these type of rims on a old pickup
@ the stock ones where so nice
Nice Little Red Express. You didn't mention the Warlock though. Glad to see your health is improving.
Looking good steve...getting better all the time ❤
I’ve always love that truck.
Always thought those were cool. and wanted one as a kid
Great truck and great to see Steve doing his thing.
Thanks Steve. I built the model many years ago.😎❤️
Steve is truly back!
Thank you for making that comment about your approach to selling cars.
Steve-O…great to see you. I’ve missed your videos. You’re the best💕
Always wanted to know more about these awesome trucks! Thanks Steve!
What a cool looking truck! Thanks for posting!
Please keep getting well again great video
Glad to see you healthy and happy, Steve. God bless you.
Looking improved all the time Steve. 👍
Nice to see you, sir. Looking good,…hope you’re feeling as good as you look. 👊🏻💥
They also produced a truck called the Warlock and it was very similar in Black and Gold paint.
Plus other colors too. I remember seeing a dark Green one in Marin county. I can’t remember if he was in San Rafael or Novato (California).
Good to see you back, Steve!
I see your a little slow but still going strong great seeing you doing videos
Nothing but love brother stay strong
I'm always impressed by your knowledge of things automotive, Steve.
Man this brings back memories ! Good friend of my mom bought a new one in '78, and as a car crazy kid, I thought it was so cool. I still do!!
Good to see you Steve. Those little red rust trucks started rusting the moment they arrived on the dealership.
Always wanted one of those. Thanks Steve!
Great vid Steve 🤜🤛
Glad to see you are doing well,
Keep on truckin' 😉
Great job guys Steve you sound great really enjoy these videos. I look forward to!
So glad to see Steve back at it again, and I to have a fondness for those trucks. Some of my first work on cars was helping my dad restore a 79 lil red Express.
Always wanted on of those!! Your looking great Steve!!!~ Hope the healing is ahead of schedule!!!~
Thank you Steve!👍
Steve , you looking much better, congratulations
So glad Chrysler was willing to go there on funky rides and cool additions, (Meep Meep). Hope all is well with you Steve, Thanks.

A neighbor had a his and hers ,both 78s.
@@MrTheHillfolk Nice taste in vehicles and spouses.
Great Job 👍 Steve 👏
Had a 1979 L'il Red Express! I can tell from looking, that one's a restomod and been repainted, the pinstriping from the factory was more elaborate than that example. still a great truck though! Loved mine, wish I stll had it.
Great seeing you Steve. I recall those. I never knew they were that fast.
I always thought those trucks were so cool!
The upgrades are tasteful and I fully approve and appreciate them.
Whoever buys that one is getting a sweet truck!
Looking great magneto!!!! Miss seeing and hearing your knowledge on anything cars and trucks !
Long ago my friends girlfriend had that model truck she got lots of compliments she kept it mint.
Awesome to see you back at it sir. I have a documented '79 Lil Red. The saying for these things was like the former muscle cars. They could pass everything but a gas pump.
Autumn in Auburn! Cool truck and you look great! 👍🏼
Steve brings a lot of credibility to these guys and their generosity in helping him speaks volumes. Always loved these trucks! Also saw White Line Fever at the theatre in the 70’s. great movie and great reference Steve. A lucky buyer gets this one!
I had a 79 little red express in high school. Wish I still had it.
Hi 👋 Steve & Friend Nice 🛻 Little Red Truck .Looking forward to seeing more Videos 📹 As you can do them GodBless 🙏
Great to see you back..missed your content hope you are doing well
Over 6000 lbs GVW. Thanks Steve

?
I never heard of anything like that till the 454SS in the tail end of the 80s/early 90s, over 10yrs after the lil red.
Good video and informative. I was 18 when these came out. Most of us would have been embarrassed to be seen in one. They rusted so fast, in 3 years they were more of a mess
Why is that ? Everybody loved mine , and i embarrassed every Trans Am I came acrossed.
Where did you live that they rusted out? Never saw this in California. And I saw plenty between the “Little Reds & the Warlocks.
I remember seeing a few of those driving around back in the early 80s! Beat up and all! Amazing how much money they can bring these days! Who would have thought! Great video Steve!😎👍
yeah...great voice....clinical dissection....big fan of the slippers..!!
Glad to see your work! You are looking better every single time.
I checked your website-omg, and they are awesome & priced well too, I hope to get to you guys & your show in early 2025 guys.
Great to see *Steve* in what I hope is a regular paying gig once again. 🙂
I'd like to have heard the whole story, Dodge had a midnight express at the same time, then the warlocks and dodge toys a little later. Steve is awesome. He has the info.
THANK YOU SIR
These are just so cool. Thanks for doing one Steve.
The '78 flavor is my dream vehicle.
The round headlights just look more correct.
Good to see you steve.

I’m looking for one!
Hopefully I get one.

Rock on Steve! My neighbor across the street has a Warlock (the black version of this) It has a 383 sixpack in it. Not stock of course. It's fun.
Couldn't click on this one fast enough. Hey Steve, you're looking and sounding better and better with every video. Shows the healing power of doing something you love to do.
Thank you , Steve.
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍 : Professor Steve 🍎🎓📓📝📏 as always very informative & interesting ! It’s to see you your up and about 👀😎👍
I remeber those, they were great looking trucks. I like them. And they would actually get up and move.
Neat! Good video
Thank you Steve
I loved Movin On .
My favorite show back then.
Love these vids!

Nice Ol' Red RAM ❤
Awesome little truck, years it was produced they were faster than the corvettes made those years.
Great video love these trucks, would love to have one in my garage. My neighbour has one that he’s had for probably 25+ years but needs some restoration
My favorite dodge truck, and specifically a 79 because that’s my birth year
Old, classic and hard to kill.
And the truck's nice too.
I had a chance to buy one of those at Neal Pope Ford in Georgia back in 1984. I'd never seen one, never heard of one but thought it was something somebody had made themselves. Should have got it.

Thanks Steve !
I knew these would be collectible someday when they came out
I wish my 79 looked that good.
I knew someone in the Seabees that had one of these in 78 or 79 in Gulfport Mississippi when I was in.

I remember seeing these on dealer lots when they were new but, never seen one on the road.
Steve is a good guy.

Just saw one Today 10 22 24
Mattawan Michigan USA !
I remember these back in the day the oak wood sides and in the bed did not last long because of water damage.
The 77-79 Trans Am with the TA 6.6 400 was underated at 220 hp.It was really about 260 hp.Hard to believe this truck could beat it.
Steve the EH1 360 in the LRE was upgraded from the E58 popo
Seems there's one off RT 9 on the way to Amherst on the right hand side
