- An Australian filmmaker and former physician, George Miller is best known for his MAD MAX franchise, whose second instalment, MAD MAX 2 (1981), and fourth, FURY ROAD (2015), have been hailed as among the greatest action films of all time.
In the wake of the release of #furiosa, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, we looked back at a short clip of George Miller discussing storytelling and how it helps us make our way through the world. This Spotlights video was produced for ACMI's centrepiece exhibition THE STORY OF THE MOVING IMAGE and supported by the 6A Foundation (clip from 2020).

George Miller is sensational!! I can't wait for this movie (well, I can but it's hard!!) 'Furiosa;' to see in the big screen on opening day in May, 2024!!

It’s good to hear George mention the influence Mad Max had on video games. No doubt Fallout, Borderlands, or Wasteland wouldn’t exist if not for him. And I’m sure there’s plenty more.
Also, while we’re on the topic, who do I have to beg for another Mad Max game? The first is an underrated gem.
Mad Max 2 IS one of my favorite films. Bar none. Excited for Furiosa.

It’s funny how the best action director of all time looks and sounds like the most anti-typical action director you could think of.
he also somewhat anti-typical action director in other ways, he is 79 years old when Furiosa releases, the first Max Max back in 1978-79 as it was put together while he still worked part time or had just recently stopped at the Trauma ward at a hospital and had decided not to become a doctor, part of the "use anything found to make the costumes and decoration" was partly due to the low budget, the partly abandoned towns due to not being able to pay as many extras as he had wanted etc. so a lot of compromises, sudden script changes and struggle. So when the opportunity to make Mad Max 2 Road Warrior came he leaned heavily into what he had already established and made it his own full unique style.
-He also directed Happy Feet and a Babe the Pig movie....
