I’m sorry but if police came to my door and said they wanted to search the property for a body under this kinda circumstance where I wouldn’t be under suspicion I would undoubtedly let them. I can’t imagine not giving consent on something that could possibly help a grieving family find closure
Not to mention, I don't think I could be okay with living in a house where a murder victim has been hidden and just... not doing anything about it

Meh, I can sort of see it. If I worked hard to make my house and yard nice and all of a sudden cops show up and want to dig it up, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled either. And then I'm going to be associated with a murder?
Imagine going on the Internet to learn more about your mother then finding out your dad was the main suspect in her disappearance. I do wonder if the kids names were also changed so they can't know about their mum?
I doubt it, simply because the oldest was 9 and they all would've known their names, as well as Patty's. He likely just fed them a shit ton of lies about her and her family, unfortunately.
I doubt it, as well, as Patty's life insurance was put in a trust for the kids to receive when they turned 18 & that would've had the kids' names on that paperwork. I also think JR completely poisoned the kids towards Patty's family & that's why they've never reached out to that side of the family, which is heartbreaking for Patty's family. I think it's possible JR's sister is the female DNA found in Patty's van. When she refused to give up a DNA sample, I wonder why LE didn't stake out her garbage & take it from there?? I hope this case will be solved eventually & also that the kids will contact Patty's family & be open to a relationship with them.

Probably what happened was he was trying to manipulate her into getting back together with him, and when It didn't work he flew into a fit of rage and killed her.

Imagine how many could have been saved if this 48-72 hour waiting period never existed . Imagine if police treated every case seriously and didn’t just brush it off for far too long . How many men women and children could have come home alive…. It’s a heart breaking thought
It’s not a thing, at least where I am. It’s a myth. The police will tell you that you have to wait 48-72 hours but if you want to fill out a police report, you should do exactly that. If they tell you to wait, ask to do a police report anyway. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
This is classic behavior from an abuser. I think he was so sure he wouldn't be caught too so some narcissism and arrogance were involved. So sick that JR needed to control things so much. Patty deserved happiness and safety, just like every abuse survivor.
Yes , as always the women is the totally innocent victim. Get real, she wasn’t even divorced and had a new man? Not a good person. In some countries , what her husband did is legal and justifiable

He most definitely did it, his family helped out. He was obviously mad that she left him and got with Gary. Makes me disgusted, because they lost their mom, the person who brought them into this world. And he probably tells his kids she didn’t love them, so they hate their mom. She’s not even here to defend herself
It’s funny, whenever I watched like JCS or other interrogation videos, the comment section is back to back “morons! Why would anyone agree to be interviewed without a lawyer present!?” Then I watch true crime and the comment section is like, “he’s/ she is totally guilty, who but a guilty fellow needs Lawyer to be interviewed by the police?”

The fact that they found traces of blood around the house and ON A MOP AND MOP BUCKET and still let JR get away without being polygraph tested or without letting them question the kids. AND the fact that Patsy was so quick to be charged with assault and robbery and JR got nothing.

I’ve always wondered if the kids of missing people ever stumble upon these types of videos and find out shocking details about one of their loved ones..
Why is it in these stories, the husband always says they argued and the wife ran off. That is a RED FLAG
I live in Pleasanton and went to this school. Growing up there were rumors that there was the ghost of a woman who was murdered by her husband and buried underneath the gym building. I had no clue this was an actual case! It’s honestly sad and very scary.
I am stunned that he was able to get away with what he did all those years, makes me so furious because it's blatantly obvious he's the number 1 suspect in the case and the coincidence of all of this happening so suddenly and the fact the van was freshly cleaned with air let out, he filed for divorce right after is highly sus, he isolated the children and completely cut off any outsiders or detectives to help solve the case. Why wouldn't you want to help find the mother of your children. It's disgusting that such a narcissistic, controlling, woman abuser was able to gain custody of his children, more then likely murdered his already moved on and happy ex wife and was never arrested or held accountable for his part in her disappearance and not helping find her either. I truly hope her family and those children will be ok and that he never find's peace and no matter where he moves too he'll always be haunted by her and die a miserable death. It sickens me that they didn't do more, or couldn't do more.
Wouldn’t it be possible to ask the children now that they’re grown. Up whether they want to submit dna.. now they have a say in it
100% I think JR had something to do with it. Some Texan men have an arrogance about them where they don't think they can be messed with and they can get away with things. Plus with the lengths that he went to to ensure his children were never questioned and that his and their DNA were never taken, he did his part to cover it up and knew he'd done enough to get away with it.

I'm still surprised the police didn't just get DNA and finger prints from his rubbish bin. Just wait for collection and the moment the bin men pick up the bin, intercept and take the contents.

JR didn’t put on an act because he’s probably a complete narcissist. He knew he would lawyer up and never say a word. He got away with murder. Disgusting ! He’ll pay for what he did if now in this life then in the next.
I know that the legal system can make it difficult, but you'd think there could have been more done here. Maybe after so long, the DA should have considered charging without a body, using circumstantial evidence. It's been this long and she hasn't been found, so it's almost like, what is there to lose? Bring it before a grand jury and see if they'll indite. I wonder if they checked his and his sister's call log. He may have called her to come over and get the kids out of there..(so he could "clean up") So sad. But GO MAMA BEAR!!! I hope they dropped her charges.
Tbh they won't unless they get more physical evidence. Someone can obviously be guilty as sin (think OJ or Casey Anthony) and if theres no physical evidence there's almost no point in holding a trail bc if the perp is found guilty even without psychical evidence, theres a lot of legal issues and ways for them to get retrails, appeals, etc. It really sucks because he seems so guilty, but there's just not enough to justify a trail and the cost of one. If they had a body they'd have a better chance I think
I think narcissistic traits and arrogance can cause a guilty person to not “act guilty”. Probably just is under the assumption that he won’t get caught anyways so it doesn’t matter

I 100% think that the dad manipulated the children for years to keep them from wanting to contact their mom’s family. My foster children’s adoptive parents cut me out of their lives and this is my biggest fear…that they’re manipulating them into never trying to contact me when they’re old enough 😢
FYI: I'm 5'2" and drive with my seat up close. But when I get out, I push it all the way back, just because it's easier to get out and back in. So if anyone sees my car that way, it's normal.

He definitely fed his kids lies about the family. At least, I would have to think so. They were young but I do feel they were old enough to have fond memories of them, so the biggest factor prohibiting them would be their shitty father. I'm sure the mother beating him with a baseball bat was perfect fuel for him to use against them. Plus, they likely wholeheartedly believe his innocence and Patty's family does not. There's a lot that he could've spun to make them refuse contact with that side of the family which is truly sad and horrible. As they said, they had to lose their daughter and all 3 of her children. How horrific. I hope he didn't tell them that she just ran off and abandoned them :(((
Weird thought but I wonder if Patty wasn’t killed and she and Gary had stayed together if he would have been killed in that car accident. You know the whole “butterfly effect” and all that. It’s interesting to think that if a certain set of circumstances had been different what would have happened?

Maybe not, because her being alive would change the circumstances as well. Maybe if they had been married, they would have moved from that area or bought a new car. Maybe he got into the accident because he was in bad mental health after her disappearance. Many possibilities
I know this is far fetched but what if she was meant to die like that and maybe Gary and patty were soulmates and he just followed her?
I think JR absolutely is responsible for her disappearance! It's so sad that the kids don't have any relationship with the kids.
If it was thought that someone could possibly be buried on my property, I would let them search in a heartbeat!! I couldn't live with myself if I was possibly interfering with someone being found and laid to rest in a proper burial. .

Also I wonder about the jumpsuit. There is a highschool here in San Antonio called James Madison, unfortunately I cannot remember the school colors or when it was built. Could JR have gone to Madison, took a mechanic class and somehow still fit into it all those years later? The J. M. on the back kind of looks like the logo on the lettermen jackets.
Edit: it was built in 1976 and their colors are orange and blue.
