    It’s the restoration process that is entertaining so please don’t apologise. You are doing a great job.

      I appreciate the kind words I just struggle to believe people enjoy watching sand a door 😂 I just don’t want people to get bored!

    Another great video Ollie. I like the time lapse sequences as it retains the level of effort for a given area of work without endangering the interest or watchability. Well done !!

      So many projects going on at the CVR, not enough time in the day to document it all! Glad you enjoyed Colin 🙂

    Ime watching these well after the event, but I suggest you use paint stripper on that old paint, remove most of paint, then sand. Keep up the good work 👍 .

    one other thing you could have done on your door is put insulation between the panels to keep heat in van.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому

      Yeh and the panels just screw on and off so can definitely be added some point in the future!

      well done. How your miniuture engines now have you given that up for the 12 in to the foot ones?

    Excellent video, and really enjoying the series. One suggestion would be to add the wood preserve to the boards before bolting them in place. That way the preserve can make its way into all the holes and won't leave any unprotected wood such as where the boards sit on the brackets, and thus is covered.

      I’ll make sure this is sorted before their final paint over! Really pleased you’re enjoying, makes me want to make even more videos with comments like that!

    I find that jig saws are best used opposite the wood grain and circular saws when going with the grain . A jig saw being flimsy will tend to follow the grain , a lesson I learned when trying to cut the height of a door . Excellent videos .

      Hi Kenneth, can't believe you have sat and watched the whole series so far, really appreciate the support and glad you've enjoyed the process! Lots more videos on the way :)

    That was a good bit of Carpentry there. No worries about the time-lapse bits. The first coat of preservative dried as we watched! It's good seeing the progress you're making. I can imagine the trouble getting the screws out of the Brake Van to take the door off. Only thing I can add is if there was mouldings around the door-panel at one time, I wondered? That and watch the dust from old paint as it can contain lead, although I think your Brake Van was built a bit past the removal of lead from paint. Here's to some good weather now. Great stuff Ollie. Cheers!

      I see what you mean, having looked at others I don’t think there was any around the door panel however it’s something I could always add at a later date. I certainly didn’t realise how quick wood preservative dries in the right temperature! Cheers Flymo 👍👍

    Fantastic efforts, as if the door was Brand new again, only thing id of done different was to see if i could remove those window bits and either give them a really good clean or replaced

      I agree the windows need some attention.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      They are only a rectangular piece of plastic, I think they should clean up ok even when in place but if not they can always be replaced later on down the line! (Pardon the pun)

    Great work on the Van so far, tip for the Door Windows, try using some of the car headlight restorer, it should clean up the plastic so it is nice and clear again. Also if you can, remove the door handle and the hook, and paint underneath these this will seal the door up and reduce the chance of moisture getting under your paint causing it to lift back off the door. Keep up the good work Cheers.

    P.s mixture of time lapse and discussion was just about right imho 👍

    Nice work, I know a few people have mentioned the glass but I’m sure there will be options to clean it up I mean it’s hard to tell how ‘dirty’ it actually is from the video. Is that both sides of running boards fixed or just the one side?

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      Currently filming next episode which sees the completion of the running boards on both sides, then it’s a matter of tidying up the edges and painting them! It’s not actually glass it’s plastic funnily enough! I think they should clean up ok but if not I can change them in the future 👍

    You were very sensible to wear a mask. The door looks better. However, it can be difficult to get the right shade of grey paint. Mostly, it's a case of trial and error, but it won't matter if you don't get the colour quite right first time. Just keep calm and carry on painting, I'm sure you'll get more or less the right shade you want. If at first you don't succeed, try again till you get it right. Try not to go overboard. Good on you to work in a workshop. You don't have to be crazily entertaining, leave that to Little Miss 57xx on your railway. Nothing is more funny than when something goes wrong.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому

      Yeh sadly I can’t fit the whole brake van in the work shop but things like doors can be worked on inside and generally make the job a lot easier! Glad you enjoyed Kelly, see you in the next one 🙂
