Best May Ever? 30 Days of Pumping Surf Across the Americas

More than one surfer from more than one surf spot up and down the coast of the Americas said this even before the month was over. Turned out, May's dream run of south swell actually extended into the first week of June, and surfers from south-facing breaks Chile to Canada are still talking about the dream run in wistful tones. And while the dream run was definitely dreamier and more consistent in some places than others (here's looking at you, Puerto Escondido), nearly every marquee south-facing spot had days and days of good to excellent surf. In Chile, Punta Lobos returned for what turned out to a be a few of the best big-wave sessions there in years. Nicaragua's offshore beachbreaks and slabs lit up for days on end. Puerto pumped. (And won the month, hands down.) The Wedge dished out backwash chaos and glory in equal measure. Under a persistent May Gray, Lowers just didn't stop, same with Malibu and many points in Santa Cruz. By the first week of June, many surfers were spent. Sleepwalking. Many couldn't remember one swell over another 'cause they all ran together in a kind of, well, dream. 'Course by June 15th, relationships mended, boards fixed, wetsuits dried, everyone started looking for the next one.

I wish some of those South swells had come to Hawaii. We've had one of the worst summers in years. Only two moderately sized swells lasting only a couple days.

Yeah plus we had a pretty short winter. After the eddie there wasnt much at all so this is like 6 months of jonesing.

Was down in Nicaragua from end of April to Mid June. Absolute blast, such a good run of swell.

Been surfing avidly since 76; lol never seen a May like this year.
In So Cal May & Aug are always the smallest months, there are exceptions with a great swell, but again those two months are `always the smallest in each 30 day period. Peace

@@BodhiNDaddy May be where your at, but not in SD North County. Have the documented surf calendars (which I personally wrote in) since 1985 to prove it. Again there is always a rare exception. Peace
Dont forget that snapper rocks was also pumping for 4 weeks straight in may and then turned off just before the comp
Living in New Zealand we had terrible weather, storms flooding, and capping that off cyclone Gabrel. It destroyed parts of New Zealand that weather.

@@dallasbolton yea brah we’ve had like 1 or 2 decent sized swells but that’s it! Definitely hasn’t been any epic days. Can’t wait for winter.

Your new look on the forecasting page absolutely sucks does for here anyway, the island of Upolu in the South Pacific. Can you go back to the old look.....
if you used a flat earth map your swells will work out much better
hey Surfline, pick it up. Your forecasts are always off in Hawaii and it's not cool. MSW was way more accurate.
