I'd been fascinated with that ideal since I first read this series - being one thing does not exempt you from being another thing. You can be both, you can be many things, you can walk the balanced path between as long as you have the conviction. And this theme goes over with *so many* of the characters, Sagiri is just the first that realizes it, it's dope
Sagiri’s effectively been nerfed ever since episode 1, by the hesitation that was “getting” to her (she can execute people just fine, but the gladiator display for the shogun was _hardly_ an execution in her eyes). And ever since getting to the island, she’s been waylaid by being so much of a stickler for the rules. She can execute criminals just fine, but hesitates with Gabimaru because she has an idea of his motive, and besides criminals, the island is covered in literal _monsters_ . So, she’s shaken, stirred even. However, that’s as far as it being a nerf has gotten. With a little bit of support, she has her nerve again. She _might_ still have to rationalize if any of the monsters seem sentient or not-obviously-malicious, but otherwise, she flicked the ‘on’ switch and got her focus adjusted.
Lee is one of the few reactors who put some respect on my boy Genji, unlike the millions just calling sexist and that's why I love this guy lol. Nothing is just black or white, since the beginning the dude was worried about her and let's face it since they got on the island she has been acting very differently. He felt that and try to push her, he could have done it in better way but he is just a dumb swordsman lmao. Too bad my man D. Nasty never understood him til the end coz he got too emotional:(

With this, I’m gonna go out on a limb and defend Genji. From this episode, we know that he considers Sagiri to be highly skilled. We know, from Sagiri, that he has a weakness for women, and this is why I’m convinced that he wasn’t throwing her being a woman in her face because he thinks women are weak. He was trying to convince her to leave and gave it as an excuse for her to do so. In the society they live in, no one would bat an eye at a woman quitting here, especially after what they’d seen so far. Yuzuriha obviously doesn’t get that same level of consideration because she seemed unbothered by it all, and she’s a convict. Her life doesn’t hold the same value as a child of the head of their clan. Maybe even just someone in general who might’ve gotten in way over their head.
All of that is true about Genji, but he‘s still a classic Edo sexist on top. That‘s what makes him a great character, even though some readers might not like the historical authenticity.

The vast, overwhelming majority of women wouldnt want to nor be capable of combat. Given that, Genji was trying to watch out for Sagiris well-being the best way he knew how, even if it was shitty.
Just based on everything else on that island, I'm going to assume that they are horrifyingly lethal, and likely are going to start sprouting plants and/or trying to murder everybody they meet. There is nothing nice in that area code.
For the bootleg Renji dude, he goes " you hungry big boi " gets no answer, pops his sword out a bit, turns and tries to slash, but the big dudes hand smashes his sword, realistically that took a second to happen, but i get yalls point As for the dudes talking her down, like yes its because shes a girl, bur also her biggest wrakness is self confidence, and they see her struggling they all studied together, and dont want to see a fellow student die, its a good sentiment, but worded weird cause of the time period
i wouldn't talk bad of this genji guy He is dividing thing clearly, although a bit extereme. To him men and woman has their own role and its the way he always know of and believe. Although they way he talk sound condescending, i dont think he mocking sagiri just because. imo he meant the battlefield is cruel and life gone easily like its worthless, so there is no space for woman nature which is affectionate, sympathy, etc which sagiri clearly has. That's why in his dying state he said, not long ago sagiri act bravely like a man but also show woman affectionate , which to him not a quality needed in battle. It's not women cant, they just dont meant to be in battlefield to begin with according to him. which is fair i guess especially when their lady life is at stake.
I liked the man’s speech to her about converging two schools of thought and lifestyles to find the middle road… but he still denotes everything woman about her with weakness even though she’s doing everything as a woman. I hope some better idea comes through that shows me the writer isn’t just bashing on women and is writing characters stuck in old mindsets. Yknow cause it’s ye olde times

I'm spellbounded as to how the characters are saying English derivatives in multiple episodes like they were common in that era.
