He not the only one saying this, I saw MightyKeef say there were only 3 good games that entire thing. Frankly, I agree. I didn't get to watch the direct I was at work, when I clicked on the video I noticed it had sections and I myself was not interested anything but 4-5 games.
If you don't like Mario this direct was not that good

I loved it, but I'm also into Mystery games, so I've been looking forward to The Hundred Line since the creation of TooKyoGames, and Ace Attorney Investigations Collection. The last one I was looking forward to was DECAPOLICE but Lvl 5 has maybe postponed it.
The thing is, most peeps see Switch games as the Smash Bros roster, so it's expected some entries get glossed over. It's like how Another Code: Recollection and Famicom Detective Club, two games each, were modernized entirely for a new generation.
It is actually huge they used the Switch for that, especially when you google how these titles looked prior. But it's not going to get enough credit, in any direct, because they're praised, but occult classics. Another Code came out this year as well.
Fun fact: Famicom almost had a rep in Smash, but they figured it'd be too unknown an IP in the West, so it got a Trophy. They chose FE instead because peeps like swords. Anyway, NIS fans got Phantom Brave and Ramancing SaGa gets godly praise, with this game being made with an actual budget.
In terms of catering to a variety of gamers, from niche to massive, I think they did a damn good job. I also think Mio looks cool.

it's probably different for streamers and video game-based creatives, but having 2 or 3 games you're interested in for half a year+ sounds pretty freakin good to me. (esp if one of them is a fighting game, like Marvel Collection, or a game with grindable challenges, like DKCR HD's time trials) i liked the direct quite a lot!
Basically the Coney & Sonic controversy is that during the late 2000's decade, it became cool to hate on Sonic, based on inconsistent & terrible reception on recently released games like Shadow05, Sonic06 & Secret Rings & this lasted over a decade, up until 2020 with the Sonic movie, due to Sonic entering the mainstream & becoming popular again.
The thing is though is that folks during the 2010's decade retroactively went out of their way to call out previously 8 - 9/10 Sonic games & trash on them, alongside blindly hating on recently released great games like Generations & the amount of dumbass YT's spouting the opinion's created a huge echo-chamber that made being a Sonic fan rough around the time.
Coney was arguing that never happened, ironic cause he lacks that prespective & yet shits on the 3D games, cause his perspective is his preference towards 2D Sonic.

Naw the gameplay was mid but the story was peak for a Sonic game, a great way to follow up the first adventure.
Best thing was Chao Garden.

SA2 is decent overall for me, but I love Sonic's movement in it. Watch a speedrun of Green Forest and see what I mean. I'd enjoy SA2 a lot more if Shadow had the Bounce Bracelet and the amount of Sonic and Shadow levels was tripled.

If you want a good speedster game like sonic day stages and adventure 2 check out spark 3 the electric jester. It's the best sonic game I've ever played and it's not even a sonic game

Eh Sonic is the most mid franchise IP with the most obnoxiously dedicated basement dwellers. They're pretty much on par with Star Wars prequel defenders.

Sonic Adventures was fun when it came out on Dreamcast imo, but I was like 8 or something when that happened.
But I've replayed it later on and while obviously a much worse experience then when I was a kid still *OK.*
My point is, the Sonic Games (especially 3D) that came after Sonic Adventures 1/2 are a lot worse than those two are.
SA2 is ass in terms of gameplay, I have platinumed SA1 on PlayStation and that game was also annoying but SA took the goofiness out of the mechanics, how laggy the spindash is in SA2 feels like a mandela effect and it's so hard to get higher than B rank. I actually agree with Coney on this, but, "How did anyone like it" is crazy. He just wasn't outside ig.
