Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars
Because of this happening about three years ago to my family, I have a strict set of rules we each follow now when contacting certain family members that were targeted in the scam. It's kinda fucked up we have to resort to BladeRunner-esque 'baseline' verification on top of what is supposed to actually secure tech, but it sadly will become more and more important as time passes, not less.
I'm sadden for the young people.

What makes AI voices sound somewhat convincing if that we've been conditioned listening to weird audio compression that interpolates/ generates data when packets are lost. So we're are used to hearing weird artifacts in human speech that wouldn't be there in a hi fidelity video chat/ phone call.
I saw a pretty convincing deepfake commercial on UA-cam last night with Tucker Carlson supposedly promoting a "bitcoin event" get rich quick scheme. When I went to the link provided, they were saying that if you send them bitcoin, they'll send you double the amount back. Riiiight.
There are several if those, one with Musk... You can tell they're fakes though. The intonation isn't natural... yet.
What I find more alarming is that YT let's them pay for the ad space because they don't care who pays them, and has absolutely no reporting system for ads (not that they pay any attention to their existing "reporting systems").
I saw ton of fake Elon musk streams with exactly the same scam model: apparently Elon was so rich that when you send him 1 BTC he will send you back double the amount. unfortunately my friend got trapped and lost a lot of money

You hit the nail on the head with that. It's not even OR, it's straight up AND. With this whole machine learning bullshit that creates what is, to a discerning eye or ear, just slop, but to people who aren't even aware of what can be done, it is reasonably acceptable. Even if your grandma 100% wouldn't fall for some dude ringing and saying "We're from the police, there's a breakin spree in your area, we recommend you give us all your valuables for safekeeping", she might fall for a video call with a deepfake of your face and voice pretending to be in deep gambling debt or whatever and she should absolutely hand her valuables over to the people coming by later or risk your death.
This will only get worse with technological improvements. Eventually only real life interaction may be somewhat trustworthy.
In general, but especially in recent times, citing sources in videos like this makes a huge difference.
I wish more people felt this way/understand this.

However the politician they used is known for backstabbing behaviour and not particularly trusted even among his supporters, who are more or less dependent on his business…
Still, the quality was very good - be it language fluency, mimicking peculiarities in speech, grimaces, lip-sync…

In Swiss military for communication the only [public available] app allowed is Threema. Threema has 3 versions. One of them self hosted & as example, cud be interesting for friends around the globe that like private conversations.
Its also used by Police in some Swiss Kantone (states) & some Swiss Government department.

This is examples are too high profile to be of any concern. Tell us when they deepfake some ceo videochat, than hijack his phone or other personal accounts and use deepfake audio there to confirm the previous deepfake.

We used to call the targeted persons personal phone to get voice patterns. Then, run it with a software to get sentences to authenticate to target voice-mail. It's just now normies get shocked and aware.
Let me tell all of you how easy making these audio is easy -
1.google real time voice cloning
2. Clone the repo and install the requirements
3.open the program select any 5-10 sec audio
4.Write the text hit synthesize and generate
Note - this is good for English accent people because it majorally trained on it if you want any other you have to train yourself by giving dataset

If all robocalls are made illegal, that process gets easier for the phone company because they don't have to sort between legal and illegal. Just because 'criminals will do it anyway' is no reason to let something slide
