- The new Mazda3 is not cheap, with prices starting from RM140k, and that money gets you only a 1.5. Is it actually worth the money? Can the 1.5 engine actually give satisfactory performance?

Mazda 3 2L is RM150,000. Take an average person on RM3,000/month, 50 months pay.
Base model Mazda 3 2L is A$28,888. Minimum wage earners need 45 months (A$635/m) to pay off the car. Both cars are imported. Someone is keeping the change!
Managed to drive a 2.0L hatch and 1.5L sedan barely 3hr in between, my thoughts
- torsion beam noticeability gets off balanced in uneven corners but good tuning allows great point-and-shoot feel
- sound insulation is greatly improved over it's predecessor but the back felt unsettled over road imperfections
- 1.5L is frankly fine in city traffic (holds the gear longer before upshift and drops quickly when floored) but needs more oomph to accelerate after dropping 1 or 2 gears at cruising speeds. Engine note is loud but sounds better than one in an Altis or Elantra/Forte under load
- 1.5L has very obvious missing features even for a C-segment let alone against the 2.0L
In short the 1.5L reminds me of a used 1.5L Suzuki Swift: a driver centric chassis, mated to a drivetrain enough to see you thru everyday traffic but reminds you that the better Sport sibling is only an arms length away.
A fair assessment. Tallies with my views.
Does the 1.5-liter Mazda 3 feel underpowered like Hyundai Matrix 1.6?
Here comes the old saying "there's no replacement for displacement".
No rear aircond vent is ok.. but if got rear aircond vent is a bonus.. dun try to cover up their weakness else they wont improve.. tq kon for your very honest review, and pointing out that you would prefer one wif rear aircond vent.. and better is, 1.5 Turbo not 1.5 NA..
In the philippines. The base model sedan has rear aircon vents and keyless entry along with heads up display. But no leather seats.
Would an additional gear benefit the fuel consumption? The 1.5 revs at above 2k just to maintain speeds of 100-110kmh
How do this MAZDA 3 NVH compare to the Altis 2019? It seems louder in here...
adequate performance.... but only feels its hard to regaining speed when its loosing momentum.... simply underpower lor
What happened to menang contest
Simply said, the gearbox is properly tuned to compensate for the 1.5L engine's lack of power at highway speeds. Can I safely assume that if you drive this 1.5-litre Mazda 3 in city and country roads, it will feel more satisfying?
nice review Kon..
Thanks for watching!
Hi, do you know why Malaysia doesn't have Toyota Auris?
do genting run to get the real-time performance
To be honest I think the 2.0 engine is the more refined engine for 2019 Mazda 3 and more suitable for its price range...
how fast is it from 0 to 100
Neh though Mazda might be known for its handling all u need is to spend 2K+ less u get a bigger and just equal good handling car and even newer and with just as featured pack as tge hi specs Mazda 3
Does mazda still have heaters in their newer cars? Great for rainy days in Cameron Highlands
Didn't try, but the temperature control knob does have a red zone.
If we have Japanese quality roads, then the torsion beam rear is acceptable. Couldn't imagine how the ride with low profile tires.
Should compare the ride comfort with your E39
Hahahaha... E39 more comfortable lah bro!
👍👍 i considering buy 1.5 2020 or maybe 1.5 2021 city boy no problem at all now thanks alot .
They are both quite different cars. The Mazda drives better, but City is more practical.
@@KonWaiLuen thanks you alot brother, mazda coming out with the turbo engine i show mad at it now, i live in Vietnam stilll waiting it.... up there i mean i a city boy the mazda 3 1.5 i will buy it from 2020 model or 2021, lol anyway keepp cool brother you so passion 😎👍👍👍 from viet nam 🤙
Dude.. i love your country man. Visited Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Phu Quoc!
@@KonWaiLuen you so kool Brother , i live in Đà Nẵng in midside lol, i not going Malaysia yet but i can guess that Malaysian people is really friendly and Good energy like you aswell right thanks you a Lot Brother next time i buy a car you come to Đà Nẵng tell me i driver your Fam around my home town lol
Is that engine screaming??can hear loud screaming sounds in this video...
ramming like hell
not enuf power so nid keep high rpm that's why engine sound so loud :D
It's the manual fd2r passing the car! Nice sound!
Hi Kon, did you check the tyre pressure?
Actually, I didn't
@@KonWaiLuen well, that might not give its ride and handling review a proper justice don't you think? As some cars were pumped much higher tyre pressure for the sake of storage out of assembly plant.
Your colleague's sitting position is a bit low? She looks like she is struggling to see the road?
I wanted to buy this car soon but a few of my frens mention this car petrol consumption is high? Is that true bro? I love the car. Tried driving one, powerful enuf, and comfort.
Mazda engines are generally quite fuel efficient in the real world, but in the case of the Mazda3 1.5, I won't be surprised if FC is on the high side as the small engine is made to work harder pulling that large body
2.0 liter would be more suitable for this car
Personally I will feel this 1.5(same engine with previous model) is under power because Im the owner of 3rd gen 2.0L(ron97 all the time),, For new car. yes! you will feel it power because new car maa,, but after awhile(few months later) u will agree what I mean,, carbon!!!
Based on weight the new model is heavier than previous gen which is (1,361 kg vs 1,292 kg for both sedan variant)
You have a point. Wear and tear is something we cant account for in a 3-day review. But I do believe there is some clever work done on the transmission to better leverage the engine's outputs.
I own the last of the highest trim outgoing model with 2.5L in AU, frankly this is the ideal for both city and motorway driving. You know there is always ample power when it's needed. The OZs even complained about those with 2.0L not having enough power for both the outgoing and new.
Ubatnya kasi turbo je lor 😂
If money is not your concern, yes buy it
my personal view/opinion, go for segment D maaaa, alang alang
Why the engine noise so noisy?
I think that was the sound of the manual fd2r passing the car! Nice!
going fast bro
would anyone pick this instead of civic 1.5T
This engine probably feel much more comfortable in a myvi then this Mazda 3 la. Mcm kena torture je
This engine is what sinkies get haha
Hahaha.. Singaporeans mostly have to make do with sub-1.6-litre engines. For years, they were the only market with a 1.6-litre Civic.
Ohh always thought all their cars there always get the top variant goodies...
whatever u said.. 1.5 is i1.5.. enuff.. no want insane enuf paying 100k for NA 1.5..
Walaueh.... That kind of engine noise.....
No torque, have to hunt the lower gear to get the work done, conclusion underpower
No idea who would buy that 1.5 NA Mazda 3.
The fact that the engine is screaming so hard and lack of forward momentum ,it is seriously underpowered.............
Don't need to cover line la, it's pretty obvious that this 1.5 engine is underpowered with that engine struggling sound and that torsion beam suspension rearing its ugly head with all the body pitching. Lol!
gotta claim the salary so
The ride looks bumpy for a C segment sedan in the video. Independent suspension in civic/altis definitely more comfortable.
the new mazda range prices are ridiculous..
Really pushing it hard. sounds terrible...pity the engine
Honda city 118hp / 1084 kg
Mazda 3 118hp / 1361 kg
There is 277kg different with the same horse power....i'm sure its underpower 🤞
Underpower!!
Guys HP is not everything. Gearbox and torque plays an important role. If you’re a smooth driver who doesn’t which to floor the gas then city is fine. CVT is a horrible gearbox for me as I am a fast driver.
ringan lah
just admit that this car is under powered
You'll be surprised
@@KonWaiLuen It really is under powered... 140k I'd rather take civic TC-P
@@dannychai3242 oh, can't argue against the Civic in this segment mate. Best all-rounder hands down.
@@KonWaiLuen I used to think that until I'm seated in the back seat of Civic 😂 it is positioned so low that I feel uncomfortable. NVH is quite high as well compare to other cars in the segment
@@InfinityZhen Best all-rounder, but not flawless. Hahahaha
Torque less machine
beng hi
Hahahaha. Driving at speed that unwilling to disclose at youtube.......
Kah Heng L 150 lo, check Waze before moving off then autobahn liao.
Mazda knows theyre not selling much of these so they just jack the price up and hope the fanboys will fall for it.
