FYI, the movie Munafik more focus on religious issue(?). It is a great movie, but if you see the full movie, it maybe a little bit hard for a non-muslim to understand (but if you do some research of the meaning "munafik" then you'll gonna understand it very well) but it's a cool horror movie. I strongly recommend you to watch it from beginning till the end. happy watching (especially steve) :)
The "music" you were refering to is actually a person reciting the Quran ^^ They either probably used it as the bgm because of the meaning behind the verses which probably related to the the story of a Munafik OR just because it's goosebump inducing. Quran recital are supposed to bring calmness but in fact to some people they actually find it creepy/scary if they have the recital on at night like when no one's around, just them alone and the voice of the person reciting, you just get the feelings as if like someone else is there watching you.
Han Young In actually the creepy feeling is from the translation of the Quranic verses. there are surahs and verses that is meant to warn humans about the munafiks (hypocrites) and the price munafik people will pay in hell. and the verses where it tells of how satan can manipulate humans is really something to be taken notice. the fear is meant to make people realise the severity instead of fearing the Quran as a whole

Im Malaysian and to be honest, both Malaysia and Indonesia horror movies nowadays are nothing compared to movies in 90s and 2000s; especially from Indonesia. All time fav of Suzanna's movies which used to haunt me when i went to bed when i was younger hehehe. Nowadays, horror movies from both countries full of audio surprise elements. BUT, Munafik and Makmum are ones of those good movie/short movie. Full of cultural/religion value that relatable to Malaysia/Indonesia daily life. SOOO REALL!
the best part of munafik is the plot twist at the ending. really cannot brain. That's why it's called MUNAFIK. I was having heart attack all the freaking minutes watching this movie

For the makmum, there's people I know that have similar situation but the ghost/jinn just sat beside her during her prayer all the time.. The ghost sat with their body towards her but their head turn 180 .. First time I watched Munafik, I got kicked out by my roommates 😂😂😂 It because I was laughing the whole time while all of them were edgy & scared... They said it's scary but to me it isn't that scary tho.. it just whenever there's jumpscare scenes , I suddenly thought it was reference from some comedy slapsticks & burst into laughing madness instead of screaming.. Kinda a party-pooper type hehehehe

I actually went to see Munafik (the movie trailer one you guys watched) on the 12.30am screening, and got spooked the hell outta me from the moment the movie starts. First time in my life I actually shielded my view so that I can listen to the audio only... which is probably the worse idea compared, bc the movie had A+ audio scoring and effects. Nearly cried in public.... and we drove home on an empty highway. Imagine my overactive brain playing my heart to the max. But it was fun! (Not gonna do that again. Duh.) Munafik is such a great great movie. Not only the scary scenes gave you goosebumps, but the message behind the movie as well. Such a powerful message there and that's why the movie is awesome. Even those films are pretty scray for Indonesian/Malaysian. Imo, western horror movies are kind of something like zombie or anything that surprise you(the visuality is pretty artistic tbh), meanwhile south east asian horror movies are kind of movie with the scenes that will lead you onto climax then surprised you with an actual ghost. I meant, there are 'pocong', 'kuntil anak', or 'genderuwo' who usually appeared in our horror movie. You can say that that they are all true. For example, pocong is a ghost which is wrapped by a 'kain kafan'. It is the prescribed length of cloth used in Muslim burials to wrap the body of the dead person.
I've watched Munafik and god, I nearly cried in cinema. Especially, when the girl get possessed and start to speak Arabic. In my opinion, Munafik is the best Malaysian horror movie.

Munafik is one of the best Malaysian horror stories and its full of moral and Islamic knowledge. I watch the Makmum also but it so scary. Every time I perform prayer, I will just remember the scene in the Makmum where someone behind her pray together.
Btw i'm Indonesian and i have watched Munafik twice already when it got popular in here. I watched it at school (literally at school for religious education and Bahasa Indonesia). My class was completely chaos, i felt like i would lost my hearing XD.

'Munafik' is a word used to describe a two-faced person, ie: nice on the outside but hell evil on the inside. Who can ever tell, right? in our culture, even on this modern days,there are some people who still execute black magic to bring down the people they hate or jealous with (black magic is one of the biggest sins) It's basically a movie that implements religious concerns (Do's and Don'ts) and how a person can be so heartless even to their own relatives/family.

this stuff happen in real life all the time. my aunt used to be possessed and we used to recite that "scary music" on her which is actually the Quran. it tried to stab me once my possessed aunt ran to the kitchen and saw a knife and my other aunt tackled it to the ground. from that day we used to hide any knives in the kitchen and whenever she was possessed my aunt used to get a knife and tell her to lie on the bed near the place where the Quran was being recited on the radio. now that I think about it, it's one of the funniest memories I have in life I still talk about it to this day and it always brings about good conversations. you might be suprissed at how common this is. right now the place I work at a girl has those problems of being possessed and is on strong medication. it is what it is I guess .
I'm malaysian. Ghosts in malaysia are quite common for villagers or city people. I am a villager in front of my house there is an Islamic cemetery. The ghosts will not disturb us as long as we do not disturb them

I actually went to see Munafik (the movie trailer one you guys watched) on the 12.30am screening, and got spooked the hell outta me from the moment the movie starts. First time in my life I actually shielded my view so that I can listen to the audio only... which is probably the worse idea compared, bc the movie had A+ audio scoring and effects. Nearly cried in public.... and we drove home on an empty highway. Imagine my overactive brain playing my heart to the max. But it was fun! (Not gonna do that again. Duh.)

Munafik is such a great great movie. Not only the scary scenes gave you goosebumps, but the message behind the movie as well. Such a powerful message there and that's why the movie is awesome. (And tbh because of "Makmum", I'm now scared to perform my prayer alone so that short movie kinda sucks big time lol)

Even those films are pretty scray for Indonesian/Malaysian. Imo, western horror movies are kind of something like zombie or anything that surprise you(the visuality is pretty artistic tbh), meanwhile south east asian horror movies are kind of movie with the scenes that will lead you onto climax then surprised you with an actual ghost. I meant, there are 'pocong', 'kuntil anak', or 'genderuwo' who usually appeared in our horror movie. You can say that that they are all true. For example, pocong is a ghost which is wrapped by a 'kain kafan'. It is the prescribed length of cloth used in Muslim burials to wrap the body of the dead person.

Munafik is one of the best Malaysian horror stories and its full of moral and Islamic knowledge. I watch the Makmum also but it so scary. Every time I perform prayer, I will just remember the scene in the Makmum where someone behind her pray together.
Indonesian horror movies are mostly crap, so I wont recommend anything on that genre hahaha

Me and my entire classmates watched Munafik on class. And well most of my schoolmates watch Munafik. The movie began to be a very hot topic back then, and the movie was really good yet so scary. right after we watched the movie together... something creepy we didn't expect, happened...

'Munafik' is a word used to describe a two-faced person, ie: nice on the outside but hell evil on the inside. Who can ever tell, right? in our culture, even on this modern days,there are some people who still execute black magic to bring down the people they hate or jealous with (black magic is one of the biggest sins) It's basically a movie that implements religious concerns (Do's and Don'ts) and how a person can be so heartless even to their own relatives/family.

For the Makmum scene, it usually happens when we pray. We felt like there is something behind us. We supposed to concentrate while praying. It just a 'setan' trying to disturb.

this stuff happen in real life all the time. my aunt used to be possessed and we used to recite that "scary music" on her which is actually the Quran. it tried to stab me once my possessed aunt ran to the kitchen and saw a knife and my other aunt tackled it to the ground. from that day we used to hide any knives in the kitchen and whenever she was possessed my aunt used to get a knife and tell her to lie on the bed near the place where the Quran was being recited on the radio. now that I think about it, it's one of the funniest memories I have in life I still talk about it to this day and it always brings about good conversations. you might be suprissed at how common this is. right now the place I work at a girl has those problems of being possessed and is on strong medication. it is what it is I guess .
I'm malaysian. Ghosts in malaysia are quite common for villagers or city people. I am a villager in front of my house there is an Islamic cemetery. The ghosts will not disturb us as long as we do not disturb them

I am Malaysian and I am really impressed with Munafik! I rarely watch Malay movies but this one, its very good! Yes it is like The Priest (the one kang dongwon was in), but this is in islamic way. I watched this film in Indonesia bcs I missed to watch it in Malaysia 😂
