    Typically, the skill level of the shooter is a much bigger problem than the quality of the guns.

    The nice part of the M17 is how modular it is. Already since it was adopted Sig has come out with countless upgrades and improvements. Hopefully the military can find a way to take advantage of those and not just stick with the original M17.

      It’s honestly doubtful they’d pay so much money to supply the troops with a pistol that they would also have to change out parts…

  • @newdefsys
    @newdefsys Рік тому +4

    When the P320 first came out I loved the modularity and went nuts with conversion kits. But, if I had it all to do over again, I would simply buy the compact version with the 3.9" barrel and then order a subcompact grip module along with two 12rd magazines and swap the grip modules, as needed. The compact slide on the subcompact grip works just fine and is easy to conceal, while the compact version (w/ 15rd magazines) is a great winter coat conceal carry gun, range gun, open carry gun, truck gun, BBQ gun, and go-to-war gun.
    I have the full size 4.7" barrel conversion kit w/ 17rd mags as well. I can confirm that it is in fact a full sized gun. I shot it twice, its very nice, but its been sitting untouched in its box for at least 5 years.
    Compact/Subcompact is the way to go with the P320, YMMV

    I own both. The first time I shot the m18, I didn’t like it much. The m17 shot wonderfully. I have since gotten used to it, and find them both to be very accurate and comfortable to fire. I’m still not keen on the optic interface of this platform vs other systems I have used, so I likely will not upfit these.
    Several hundred rounds of mixed fmj on each unit has revealed no reliability issues thus far. I have not had them very long, but I am satisfied with the current performance of the system.

    I can't speak for Beretta vs. Sig but I can testify that I shoot the Sig much better and more easily than the Glock. Oh how I have spent much ammo and watching training videos trying to do so with the Glock. I pick up the Sig and boom, it is on target! Longer distance is what I mainly speak of. I have been shooting many years breaking in on a 1911 which I also shoot well. I can shoot the Glock but I am just not consistent with it!

    Always had a Springfield 1911 TRP Operator for ranch open carry. Things a beast with the bull barrel and a tack driver. Then I shot my friends standard 320 and boy was I accurate with it. Ended up getting an XCarry which is the M18 size and I do like it. Ended up getting the 365 after that. The Sigs are truly modular and I do like the idea of just changing over to an M17 or X5 size on the 320 and being able to go XL on the 365.
    In the end most handguns today are quality and reliable, definitely a personal preference and comfort thing. Very curious all the 320 misfire shit in the news I'm not sure what to think about that.

    M9 - Straight Shooter and supper accurate. But breaks more especially the locking block. M18 - Lighter thats not good or bad just depends on the person, haven't seen one break on a major level like the M9. This is just my Experience in the Navy as GM and training people on both weapon systems. My command had about a %10 higher pass rate with the M18. Personally would have liked the Glock 19X.

What are they carrying/using for range quals.

    I think it's a shame that several very good pistols lost out because they didn't have the modular chassis system the military wanted. To me at least it seems like a quite pointless requirement logistically speaking. Would have much rather seen an M&P 2.0 or a gen 4 Glock 17 get adopted.

    In another video, it was noted that the actual M18 uses a stronger recoil spring than the commercial P320/M18, since the GI ammo is a pretty hot round, compared to civilian ammo. Have you noticed a handling difference between the GI and civilian pistols?

    • @PreparedAirman
      @PreparedAirman  Рік тому +1

      No I haven't noticed anything. But that could be because we don't train with our duty HP ammo. When we train it is either FMJ or frangible. Our Hollow point ammo is only used for duty carry.

    • @petesheppard1709

      I bought a box of M17 +P HP ammo made by Sig for my XCarry (civilian equivalent of the M18). Apparently, you guys can check me on that, this is the same ammo given to our military. No issues with the ammo, I don’t think they are sprung any differently.

    Anytime anyone says something to the effect of "did we (the US military) make a good/bad decision?" I say it depends, are we talking about from the perspective of high brass or dirt grunt?
    And for anyone who argues "if its good enough for the military..." I remind them that UCP exists.
    For the new pistol specifically Id say there are definitely some questionable things with the trials (mil-spec can mean quality...or the lowest bidder).
    For use, man just pick a reputable one that fits your budget, use, hands and that you'd actually carry and then get training and practice with it.

It felt good in my hands when I held it, I was in the Infantry in the Army, and to me it just looked down right cool, so I bought it. And boy did I make the right choice! The trigger is easier to pull on this than my Taurus G3, so I am able to get more accurate shots on target with it. I absolutely love this pistol and will be keeping it forever 😎.

    I bought a used M17 recently and I actually do like it for the most part. I don't have any experience with the M9 Barretta, but I did get an email report from the son of one of my father's co-workers that was serving in Iraq early in the war about their disdain about the Barretta's stopping power. They were having 1911s and 357 magnums shipped out to them from family since they did not trust the 9mm round to stop the enemy at the time after first hand experiences that they went through with it. I am more of a 1911 fan myself due to the service span it had and my own experiences with it in the past. It's too early for me to pass judgement on the M17 since I've only put 50 rounds through it so far, but it does feel like a solid platform to me at the moment. I'm currently thinking about getting a light and red dot for the M17 so that I can use it as my home defense weapon.
