David Burgin Interview & Diving into a Few of His Best Solos.
David Burgin was a full-time and in demand harmonica player back in the 70s and 80s. He’s still in my humble opinion I think hugely under-appreciated for his remarkable chops and “attitude” on the 10 hole diatonic harmonica whether he was playing a swampy blues tune or digging into a swing shuffle. His tone and unique phrasing and impeccable sense of time had a huge influence on my own harmonica voice and as a developing player back in the early eighties.
Continuing from my last webinar about all things rhythm when soloing, we looked at some of Burgin’s best solos and breaking down a few of his very cool and unusual riffs. In Part 1, he shared some of his own insights in an interview format during this two hour+ webinar. Then, in the second half, I shared some never-heard-before fantastic bootleg clips of Burgin playing live with Amos Garret as a sideman and we dug into what made him so unique, and such a monster when he was playing full time. This man was on fire!
