  • The extensive archaeological zone in the malpais of the Pozo Negro valley contains the pre-Hispanic Maho village of La Atalayita which covers 45,000m2 and contains 115 drystone dwellings, some of which incorprate caves and lava tubes. Nearby, but higher up the steep side of the valley are the scattered remains of El Castillo de Rique Roque, a fortress built in the early 15th century by Bethencourt during his conquest of the Canary Islands.
