  • Step-by-step how to video to remove (or replace) and clean your mass air flow (MAF) sensor. A clean MAF can improve fuel economy, rough idle, engine hesitation, and hard cold starts. OBD scanner codes (check engine) for malfunctioning or dirty MAFs can be P0100, P0101, P0102, P0103, P0104, and P0105.
    A dirty mass air flow sensor can cause your car to run sub-optimal.
    A MAF helps your car run more efficiently by helping your car's computer determine the right air and gas mixture for the engine. The MAF is key part of a well functioning car.
    Only use a cleaner made specifically for mass air flow sensors. There are a few manufactures. I used CRC's Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner, and these types of spray cleaners can be bought at many automobile parts store, hardware stores and also at online retailers.
    In this video, I locate, remove and clean my 2011 Cadillac CTS MAF sensor. The video instruction applies to most other car makes and models. It's very easy to do.

    What code is P2189?

    • @HandyVal
      @HandyVal  3 місяці тому

      It’s a lean code at idle. Which means too much air or too little fuel at idle. It’s a tough fix as it could be many things. Sometimes it could be as simple as bad seal in your fuel cap, and other times it can be a weak fuel pump or bad oxygen sensor. Those are just a few, many others to check. Did it just happen?

      @HandyVal it's been on for a minute. I don't even drive it. The steering wheel feels stiff. It shakes after going over 40

      See if the air filter is dirty. It could be your problem. Sometimes it could cause a shake. It won’t fix your stiff steering - that’s like the power steering mechanism failing or very dirty power steering fluid.

    Hello bud,could this be the problem my 05 cadillac cts, just started doing 25 miles per hour 2 days ago didn't have any issues before then...are could i might need in oil change..any idea

      Hi. To clarify, are you saying the car struggles to go over 25 miler per hour?

    • @HandyVal
      @HandyVal  11 місяців тому +1

      An oil change shouldn’t impact performance. Oil changes will impact how long your engine lasts, as dirty oil can severely impact the internal engine components and make them fail.

      The MAF is very likely not your problem. Hard to tell as it could be a few things. Easier things to check - very dirty engine air filter (or rubber connections around the engine air filter tubing have come loose), something stuck in your exhaust (a rodent?), feel your rims after a drive (if really hot it could be that the brakes are stuck and you need a brake job). More difficult items… can be .. bad gas clogged your fuel filter so the car is starving for gas, spark plugs faulty, fuel injection problem. It’s a long list but hopefully it’s one of the easy items. Let me know what you find.

    Free at the junkyard

    • @HandyVal
      @HandyVal  6 місяців тому

      The junkyard is a good and cheap option if you need to replace a non-working mass air flow sensor. But you still likely need to clean it with the sensor spray. In my experience sensors from junkyards can be hit and miss but worth a try.

      This would mean that your barometric sensor has a problem. Before replacing it, try cleaning your mass air flow sensor (shown in video) first. A poor functioning MAF can cause problems with the barometric sensor. Hopefully this can get you started. Let me know how it progresses.

      A low battery can kick up a number of codes. It wouldn’t surprise me if a new battery clears your codes.
