so if we take everything at face value, the normal shell motion value is close to a 12+5 fire damage which would line up with all the damage we've seen. this really makes me think the power:'normal' in the stats screen means we'll probably get an element shelling. but the fact wyvern fire gets a different value from the hunting horn buff is the only thing I'm left confused about. it should be something like 77 or 78 (rounding applies to the numbers) but the video said 80. maybe there was a mistake in the script. , it makes figuring out if it's the raw getting increased or if it's by a chance just that they made more buffs apply % modifiers so gunlance gets to be happy like we see in mhnow
One of the frustrating things about the coverage around the weapons is that the majority of the footage is really bad. From people that don't really understand the weapons or are just not very good at monster hunter. So seeing a video like this from someone that actually knows what they are doing is really nice. I know obviously it's a new game and all so nobody is gonna be a god at it or anything. But most of the gameplay I've seen is pretty shoddy in other places. It makes it hard to really get a feel for how a weapon will really play, when most of the footage is from people that aren't good at monster hunter. I appreciate you, this is the best gameplay I've seen of gunlance so far.

This and the content from TDS is the best if you want to know how the game actually is to play But this vid makes gunlance look crazy good, literally 24/7 uptime and constant multizone damage
Honestly Im so glad they made more attacks that incorporates shelling in wide swipes like I first imagined it doing when I first played world. Gunlance has been my favorite weapon since forever and im glad its becoming more versatile
ya. that wide upper swipe (and the dodge shelling) were both moves from frontier. so its nice they are implementing things from that a little at a time...pulling the sensible good stuff in. GL issue, for me, was always it was very immobile (to the point evade extender was almost mandatory if you didnt want to sheath every few moments) so seeing im able to reposition WHILE attacking gives me the same effection that lance gives me but in a more boomy way.
The guard being cancellable into is great news. It probably applies to all 3 of the big shield weapons. Super excited to try it with the perfect guard mechanic, loved playing adept in GU and insta-block lance in Rise.
Definitely applies to GL, Lance, and Sword and Shield, from what I saw. Surely applies to Charge Blade also. Greatsword and HBG are the only questionable ones.
breaking animation to guard means offensive guard is back on the menu, and if raw is still influencing shells(or they rework offensive guard to be a %damage buff now like sneak attack) then we can get a nasty damage output that gunlance could only dream of, unless the devs are ok with gunlance becoming the strongest weapon in the game they will surely tweak something about all of this
I for one def wouldn't mind gunlance being the strongest weapon for this generation. Gunlance is among weapons that got the short end of the stick for so long.
@@fz_dracohart1255yea it feels like the devs are finally realizing that despite speed runs being irrelevant to normal hunting environments, people still look at those times to judge a weapon by how good it is. atleast that's what they are trying to fix with hh so not to far fetched

It would literally take a Heat Gauge level calamity to make Wilds GL anything even slightly less than the greatest incarnation of the weapon to ever bless the franchise! Anyways, I put my vote in for nicknaming the Shelling Hops "Shops" because I think it's funny to evade the monster by Shopping.
Shelling scaling with attack is absolutely insane, I’m definitely gonna play around with GL in Wilds now. Also I REALLY hope that comboing into a guard instead of having to recover applies to Lance as well, would largely make up for losing Shield Tackle from Sunbreak.
Lets hope that if shelling level still exist that the please give us more max shelling, at least let the level go up by rarity allow all GL to be not held back by shelling levels. Capcom please don't be afraid of GL this time!
I played a ton of lance in World and tried to pick up gunlance between that game and Rise, but the shield felt so bad to use compared to regular lance that I couldn't get into it. Being able to cancel attack animation into a shield is huge. The flow of the weapon in general looks so much smoother

@rathalomaniac6212 I am praying Wilds changes this. I don't like Slaplance for endgame. It does feel like Wild GL's mechanics gives us an incentive to shell more and I hope the damage output can reflect that throughout endgame.
I had almost given up hope that Capcom would ever do anything about Gunlance's various issues, but it feels like whoever designed Gunlance in Wilds actually understands the players' concerns and set out to try to address most of them. Even just the fact that it seems like there are good reasons to use everything in the Gunlance's toolkit would be enough to make me excited to try GL again. But the fact that shells seems to scale with raw now is just an insane extra cherry on top. Can't wait to try it.
My hypothesis for Gunlance's "Shelling Power: Normal" is that there would be "Low" and "High" Shelling Power for each Gunlance, "replacing" the Shell levels and it is how much the shell will scale with weapon's raw Attack the demo Gunlance has 100 raw, Attack Up (S) encored gives +15 (assuming it's the same as in MHW). And your shell deals +18% more DMG. If we excluding the Fire DMG, it seems like the "Shelling Power: Normal" scale with ~ 15~20% ATK (depending on Doshaguma's Fire Res)? Or it could be like CB in MHW where it has innitial value with base Attack, then have different bonus scaling for Bonus Attack Historically speaking, there were only ever 3 Shell levels, as Low rank run 1, 2, 3 and HR run 2, 3, 4 while G run 3, 4, 5 (5, 6, 7 in MHWI). So if Shelling Power replacing Shell level, having 3 levels of scaling would make sense and keep things consistent
I think with the shell power stat we could be able to manipulate the shell scaling so we can have a larger emphasis on shell amount/per shell damage. OR It could also have an effect on stakes and wyvernfires changing the from blade stake to explode stake or maybe changing the wyvernfire burst amount/damage values. all speculation since nothing but raw barebones demo was available to see.
Looks like gunlance are gonna love hunting horns even more. Everyone loves hunting horn Aslong as they don’t have to play it, but gunlance will love them especially more since the shells changes are so good.
GL has been my favorite weapon for a while now, but these changes genuinely make it beautiful to watch. I couldn't be happier with the changes. The only thing I could ask for now is probably elemental shells.

I always felt like most MH games either made it a GUNlance or a gunLANCE, but this really looks like for the first time it’s a strong mix of both, with lots of options for both aspects. My ONLY complaint with the gameplay I’ve seen is it kinda looks like they kept the shorter distance on the running upward slash from Rise, but it’s hard for me to tell from this.

Ahhh the feeling you get when you have a hunting horn main in your lobby…you know it’s gonna be a good fight
you can bring your own hunting horn now, don’t need to wait for one in your lobby.
My hypothesis for Gunlance's "Shelling Power: Normal" is that there would be "Low" and "High" Shelling Power for each Gunlance, "replacing" the Shell levels and it is how much the shell will scale with weapon's raw Attack
the demo Gunlance has 100 raw, Attack Up (S) encored gives +15 (assuming it's the same as in MHW). And your shell deals +18% more DMG. If we excluding the Fire DMG, it seems like the "Shelling Power: Normal" scale with ~ 15~20% ATK (depending on Doshaguma's Fire Res)? Or it could be like CB in MHW where it has innitial value with base Attack, then have different bonus scaling for Bonus Attack
Historically speaking, there were only ever 3 Shell levels, as Low rank run 1, 2, 3 and HR run 2, 3, 4 while G run 3, 4, 5 (5, 6, 7 in MHWI). So if Shelling Power replacing Shell level, having 3 levels of scaling would make sense and keep things consistent

My ONLY complaint with the gameplay I’ve seen is it kinda looks like they kept the shorter distance on the running upward slash from Rise, but it’s hard for me to tell from this.
Guard into guard is insane
And to think theres still more we havent seen and maybe even hidden moves!
LETS GO HUNTING HORN
