    Wish i had taken heed of Stingy's safety tips sooner!
    Bumped a cheap controller today while picking up quad while holding the controller, arm switch went on and throttle was pushed up past half, quad munched up my arm from fingertips to elbow, a dozen 2-3 inch slices before i could blink and disarm the quad. Ultimate shame for a noob still flying on my first build ;(
    Lesson learned, BE SAFE EVERYONE!
    (didn't even break a prop though!)

    Thanks for the Video! Hope you get a chance to talk about how to perform a motor inspection or maintenance on it after a crash. So we can better understand when it's time to change the motor or if there is anything we can do to get them back in the air.

    I am very happy with this video. There are plenty of video's explaining the technical side of setting up the Taranis, but I'd rather see the reason why anyone would select a certain setting, and this video does that to certain extend. I hope you could do a video some day about all your settings and the reasons behind them. expo, failsafe, arming, leds, buzzer, switch positions, flight modes. Most settings are probably mostly personal preference, but I think there is also a best practice setting stuff up. Like having certain switches together, or using a specific failsafe method.Anyway, love your video's, have a lot of fun flying in 2017

    Wow. ONE profile for ALL he quads. Mind blown. Why didn't I think of that? Oh right, I fly Spektrum too and I think there you have to have independent models. so I thought my Taranis would be the same. I think I'm going to adopt this.

    In betaflight you can set one switch to arm motors and one to engage failsafe mode. If the failsafe is ON you cannot arm the motors and if the motors are already armed the failsafe over run the arming command and disarm the motors, if you have set the failsafe to do so. The only downside in this one is that the failsafe normally plays the annoying beeping sound sequence when its on.

    Stingy, one thing to consider... I also used to use one model for all my quads. Then one day I stuck one in a tree so high that I had no choice but to try and ram it out with my backup. There was literally no other option as it was over 100' up. I ended up burning up 2 escs and motors before I got it down because I was sending signals to it as well as the quad I was using to rescue it. Just something to think about...

    Nice video! But withe The Telemetrie and Voltage I have to disagree you.
    actually you can set for example that when the Voltage is under 14.8 Volts for 10seconds you will get the alarm. So The warning comes only one time when the batterie Voltage is under your choosen Volatge for 0-25seconds what ever you choose. i found 10 seconde working the best! The I land ad you will only hear the batterie warning once not at every Punchout! Avter I land my batterie goes up to 15Volts so it is perfekt maybe Try that!

    I do the same 2 switches, much simpler tho. quad won't arm without throttle at 0, so set a throttle cut to plus 100 on any other switch and success.

  • @dronerant
    @dronerant 7 років тому

    When using beta/raceflight are you using airmode or just a high enough min throttle? My approach is two switches, one has airmode the other arm but no spin, not quite as safe but along the way. Second question, charger? (Not in your great epic list). Final thing, foxeer arrow is handy, simple voltage osd and it's a single wire from the camera and that's it, no osd drama

    Quick question, do you mix yaw in at all when you roll? Your camera stays on horizon but I never see any yaw used. Same for Steele, when you have video showing sticks with tricks I don't see any yaw added to keep the camera pointing towards the horizon instead of coning?

    With my telemetry the voltage readout is sometimes to the nearest tenth of a volt, and sometimes only the volts ,this changes within flights so it says for example 15.9 volts and next one i do a few seconds later would say 15 volts, or sometimes it says 14.9 and then suddenly 14 and the low voltage warning goes off, then i check again and its 14.8. So basically it is very inconsistent and difficult

    what expo rates do you run on your remote?

    • @tcoffel34
      @tcoffel34 7 років тому

      Eric Dunlap you should never run expo on the radio itself, should always be done in the FC software on a miniquad. can you? sure, but it's not recommended on the radio. BetaFlight and all the others allow you the option in the firmware / software.

    • @nosmokingnl
      @nosmokingnl 7 років тому +1

      why not in the transmitter? This has always been done so in the past, also, it gives you the ability to change it on the field. What benefit is there to do this within the FC instead of the transmitter?

    • @tcoffel34
      @tcoffel34 7 років тому +1

      Here is a decent explanation better than I can cite from memory. In summary, it's a latency issue (that is the best way for me to put it) and it's cleaner in the FC.. here "Configuring custom settings in your FC generally does remove the question of resolution/granularity of position sampling on the TX. In theory it can also avoid latency introduced by the position sampling on the TX as well.
      "
      There is also the issue that to some degree the FC firmware is set by default (depending which you use, Betaflight, KISS, Cleanflight, etc) to have EXPO. If you are running EXPO by default in the FC, then add it in the radio, it has weird effects, and may be more sluggish. at the VERY least, you should run only 1 of them with EXPO. For me, radio EXPO just doesn't feel as good as FC EXPO, especially in Betaflight. The way Boris has it all setup with Super Expo is amazing.

    • @ehunter2010ed
      @ehunter2010ed 7 років тому

      I have a DX9 & Taranis I prefer my DX9 because it feels not so plasticy, the sticks are smoother, I like the black and orange colors better than gray. That being said I have to use expo on controller compared to when i use my Taranis no expo just BF tuning. I'm a newer pilot only a year with only a few months of doing flips & rolls stunts. Steel has a video where he said that the Taranis is more dedicated to quad copters and general flying where spektrum is very spread out and not as dedicated just to flying. I agree its latency and skills, sure there are spektrum user that dont use expo but for me it helps. I had my pid so turned up my quad was flying bad and still was slow at rolls and flips. I've heard pros say do what works best for you & expo is a great tool to use if your struggling with pid tuning or at the field & didn't feel like bringing your laptop:)

    • @nosmokingnl
      @nosmokingnl 7 років тому

      ok, that makes it more clear. I can understand there are some advantages setting it up within the FC, especially if the PID settings are also changed with stick position (super expo/betaflight). Also, choosing were you setting expo TX or FC and not both makes sense.
      But better latency? The TX outputs the stick value, using expo within the TX just outputs a different stick value, but doesn't influence the speed of output.
