i feel like people used the flags in the wrong way. most of the time people raised their flags when the speaker made a point that they wanted to add onto, rather than allowing the speaker to continue their point.

I think it mostly corellated with "groupthink" and how in-line with the progressive dogma one is. Once someone shows some nuance, they start getting flagged. I imagine those who are more thoughtful and original in their own positions are generally going to be more respectful as well, since they care more about moderation towards truth. Though, I did notice the flags aren't entirely bad since some people who were giving weak arguments or getting tied up over their own logic were getting flagged too. I'm only half way through, but it is annoying how Parker keeps finishing these debates without getting voted off even though it does feel like he's not being a totally fair or faithful interlocutor (even if he presumes he's being logically consistent).

There were some great conversations starting. They let Parker talk the most and and everyone else would roll their eyes at Charlie's statements. Says so much about most if those 25.
Rad lefties atm tend to measure arguments based on very personal emotions. Not rationality, not evidence, not any form of cause-ane-effect analysis. Of course, it's further exacerbated by the ego boost you get from mob mentality; and conformity bias. This gives them no reason to respect debate as a communicative tool. They're just there to virtue signal, at best.
Says everything about their real intentions though. The people they kept in were not there to reason with anybody, they just wanted to fight Charlie, and Parker is a great example of that.
Any sort of pressure causes a crumple. It's very common, look out for it and you'll notice it. Almost all of them were very nervous wrecks to begin with, so when the conversation turned real, it was too much for these people to handle.

Not neccessarily, sometimes you need to interrupt because they built an argument on a fallacy that has to be corrected before they build up (You can see this a lot where Matt Dillahunty lets them rant for 10 minutes when he was in the Atheist Experience). Sometimes they drift from the main point and what they are saying adds nothing to it. But in this case in particular, yes, the kid was annoying, and drifted from the topic.

All college kids should be required to take a debate class. I took it as an elective in High School. It teaches you to look at both sides and logically argue both sides. It also teaches how argue like Civil people.

I will be duel enrolling at a business university in January. And one of the first things I do will be looking for a debate club. I have always been homeschooled so I did not have the opportunity to do one before, but I have thought it would be interesting.

I think flagging has to have better defined rules. For example, if it's used more than 3 consecutive times, the flagger has to defend their views. Then, afterwards, they're prohibited from one round of debate interruption.
That just means the people who didn't make it to the chair in time are going to constantly raise their flags. It bypasses the whole purpose of them rushing to the seat in the first place.

It's impossible to win a debate when one side says "it's a YES or NO question", when it's clearly a nuanced or loaded question. The college kids were being pretty respectful IMO but it resulted in giving him too much control over the debate and allowing Gish Gallop techniques to take over.
My brother is a plumber and while they do eventually, apprenticeships are still like three years then you have deal with the newly qualified pay. So I could only assume she scoffed because the time spent trying to earn that so called big payout, probably takes longer than obtaining your degree and finding a job.

I think flagging has to have better defined rules. For example, if it's used more than 3 consecutive times, the flagger has to defend their views. Then, afterwards, they're prohibited from one round of debate interruption.

It's difficult to win a debate against a smart person. it's impossible to win a debate against an ignorant person.
Its like humans keep getting dumber each year. This is why i stay far away from them.
It's impossible to win a debate when one side says "it's a YES or NO question", when it's clearly a nuanced or loaded question.
The college kids were being pretty respectful IMO but it resulted in giving him too much control over the debate and allowing Gish Gallop techniques to take over.

My brother is a plumber and while they do eventually, apprenticeships are still like three years then you have deal with the newly qualified pay. So I could only assume she scoffed because the time spent trying to earn that so called big payout, probably takes longer than obtaining your degree and finding a job.
I think the trades can payout big time but how often are people in the trades working massive amounts of overtime to reach these big payouts?
