Holy Mother of God! It's ... fantastic. I just started, but I know the actors from countless series. (No one can touch the Brits.) What ... a ... treat! (Thx for the upload.)
The joy of BBC radio, the range of stars it can get hold of for an afternoon... There's a very good dramatic monologue on this channel called 'Walk Right By Me', which is wonderfully performed by Gary Oldman. And a version of Dostoevsky's Devils which has a similarly stellar cast... David Tennant as Macbeth, too, if that interests you...
Thank you so much for both! You mentioned in the Marlowe description that you had uploaded other productions of Dr Faustus but I could not find any. I am a new subscriber and I am relishing so much of your excellent content. I just need more hours in a day for listening!
Hi, glad you like the channel. There is indeed another version of Faust on here, 'Faust (2008)'. It's a modern treatment of the story and features Mark Gatiss as Mephistopheles. I do have another version of the Marlowe play somewhere, recorded in 1995, so I may upload that one eventually too...
When you say lead actor - do you mean WIlliam Finley? I guess you must as he's the Faust of the piece, it's just that I find Mephistopheles/Swan to be so memorable that Paul Williams often feels like the main star... And he'd be a great autograph to have, too...
@mysteriousmagpie YUP. You got it! 😁👏 I wish I could have, but I got William's autograph at Phantompalooza 1 in 2005. I WISH I'd thought to bring it back and let the whole cast to autograph it! OY! My sucky timing! Both characters are equal to each other. As the old saying goes, "You can't have the Road Runner without the Coyote."
@@SparkyTheHappyGiraffeReads4Fun You know, I was going to ask if you got that autograph in Winnipeg, but then I decided - *of course* you did. I should say, as somebody from the UK with only limited experience of the The Frozen North over there, I've never been to Phantompalooza myself... but I was a fan of Phantom of the Opera from the first time I saw the Lon Chaney film as a kid, and I first saw 'Paradise' when I was 13, a formative age... I was just old enough to spot most of the other horror references in it... I think I'd seen The Untouchables by then too, so I was very interested by De Palma's work...
@@mysteriousmagpie Thankfully, we aren't so frozen. In fact, both Phantom Paloozas were in April (23,2005/ 29,2006) were nice early Spring sweater weather. Meeting and getting to hug William/Winslow was IT. But I think he and Gerrit were more amazed to be asked. A year later, the gang was all here. Now, on Nov 1st, Winnipeg is celebrating Phantom's 50th anniversary 🎉🥰. And to the one who told me, in 1975, "Johanna, they won't remember that movie next year", I say, 😛 I'm going to try and find Phantom of the Opera (audio) and make some effort to get out of my comfort zone.
I do have quite a nice reading of the original story somewhere on the channel... there's also a really good radio drama from the company Big Finish - available as quite a cheap download these days (www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/the-phantom-of-the-opera-197). That one's evidently a labour of love as even the pieces of music featured in the production correspond to the ones mentioned in the original novel...
I'm reading Faust in school right now and this is AMAZING, I'm going to show my teacher this (if I remember).

Thank you for uploading this 🙏🏾
You're welcome.
Thank you for this!
First broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 19 September 2010 (repeated in 2015).

This is absolutely wonderful.
so much philosophy and science; it's brilliant
Really enjoyed this although I started drifting off near halfway mark,,,,
Done an all nighter man
Wonderfully done! I only wish it could have been the entire play.
what do you mean? It's not?
01:25:59 No other version of Margarita's spindle song could touch me like that since Gounod 🥺
Masterpiece
Thanks 🙏 so much as I’m in ore of the classic Faust now on radio 4 - 2008 version is the best in my opinion
This is great
Amazing work
I have both parts of Faust (Goethe) autographed by the lead actor from Phantom of the Paradise, which was almost a musical version of Faust.

Mephistopheles is pronounced Mah Fisto Fellez
That may depend on one's continent of origin - I've never heard it pronounced your way before today...
