Does anybody understand the origion of the word "Galgentanz" or "gallow dance"? I know the word, but it is hard to find any information about it. I found it in a book from 1935 ("Rügen-Märchen"), so it is indeed pretty old (there is actually a pretty cool version of the book online, you even can search with ctrl + f in the old German letters)
gallowdance is referring to a person struggling whilst being hanged on the gallows, swinging around, etc. thats why its called gallowdance. So using the information i gave we can say its an extremely old word dating itself much earlier than 1935, because gallows were invented in around 1760's england
