Same here and the funny part is I am Thai. I wasn’t a k-pop fan before. One day, was listening to a mixed UA-cam playlist. Her rap caught my attention to look at the screen who this girl is???? Does K-Pop has such a flow and swag? I saw her and was so captured by her stage presence this time. I tried to find out the name of her and oh, she is Thai? Lisa? I had heard of her name before as a Thai girl who got debuted in K-pop but had never listened or seen her before. After that, I am a blink and Lili even though right now I am loving all the girls and their talents. What a group, wow.
Then, BTS was my 2nd group that I am a big fan as I searched to listen more of K-pop. I am also an Army and really impressed in K-pop.

Lisa’s one of the greatest and super versatile! LALISA is more of an introduction song that showcases a lot of her strengths and styles. And yeah y’all right about Asians and Koreans. In comparison to other Asian countries, they’re a very homogenous with a superiority complex and have always looked down on Southeast Asians especially. So Lisa definitely still experiences a lot of prejudice and racism there.

Lisa is the FIRST YG Trainee that isn’t Korean. After beating 4,999 other contestants, vying for the same spot. She’s had to face several racial attacks, specifically from Koreans. Because of a Korean law, Lisa was paid LESS than Korean artists😑. She’s paid more now, but when she started off, she had to accept less. She had to work twice as hard, to prove herself, & ended up having top grades in the trainee program. She didn’t know Korean when she moved to korea, alone, at 14. But now speaks 5 different languages. Fast forward to now, & Lisa is known, & loved WORLDWIDE. She has several records & awards under her belt, & is known as one of the top female dancers in Kpop. Her legs, ponytail & bangs, alone, have gone viral. The girl is a strong, beautiful, & smart women, that hasn’t allowed racism to set her limits. She still gets hate, but because of her hard work, she has earned even more love.
I know she is from Thailand and face racism because of that

Mexico actually has a very large Kpop following. 🙂 And if your coworker has seen commercials for Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, uses TikTok or seen these new Disney film commercials they all use Blackpink or BTS’ music but he just didn’t know that was them. “How you like that” and “Butter” come to mind. Your friend is not black/African American so it’s not really fair to ask him about the braids since it’s not his culture necessarily. And they can be hella racist in South Korea. They still do black face, they do understand, and they still bar black foreigners -not just those who are from the US - from jobs, certain clubs... I love kpop and k hip hop/kRnB but to say they are blind to it is not right. Listen to interviews from Tasha/Yoon Mirae, Fatou from Black Swan, Michelle Lee or even some of the UA-camrs who lived there for years and left. Watch the variety shows not geared towards a foreign audience. SK is amazing, but it’s far from perfect regarding racial, lgbtq+ and women’s rights just like everywhere else. I hope you don’t take this the wrong way. I’ve been a kpop fan since second gen and it’s been rough in these fandoms who don’t even allow black and other poc people to speak up when discrimination happens or their oppa/unnie does something like black face or AAVE. They like our music but not necessarily us.

2 out of three ain't bad - Lisa was used dreadfully in SG, and the sooner it's buried in history the better as the other three "artists", to use the term loosely, were dismal at best, and just trying to capitalise on her popularity at worst - the latter is my view!
