    I think it's more accurate to call this an EV with 2.4 petrol range extender, rather than 2.4 petrol with electric assist. The petrol engine isn't included in the horsepower output figure. The 185kw is the combined output of the two electric motors only.

      I think you’re referring to Nissan’s e-Power system. This is different (although the vehicle is based on the same platform).

      I don‘t care how much power the electric motors are capable to deliver - I just want to see how much power the battery is able to deliver (in EV mode)…

      Yeah you can’t get full power without help from the petrol engine flooding the system with enough volts to achieve the max power output. So it’s not simply a range extender when you ask for full power. Drive gently and yes that’s kinda what it is. Best guess at EV only power output (battery only) is about 100kw

      Can you pl double check? I read that 185kw is the combined power of engine + motors..same goes for the 450Nm torque.

      @@PDriveTV does the ICE serve as a generator/range extender or is it directly connected to transaxle and powers the wheels in combination with motors..

    4:32 interesting the brake lights seem to be flashing in time with the ABS actuation.

    Nice review..i have one technical question though..do we get 252PS and 450N at any given time or is it only available when battery is fully charges from an external power sources/charger? What happens to power once battery is depleted to a certain point and is being charged by the engine? Do we still get max power and torque at that point? Thnx

      It's available I think even if the battery is fully depleted, the whole 248HP and 450NM is just from the E-Motors and the ICE is just a generator so technically yes it's still 248HP and 450NM of torque.

      Max power and Torque is at Tarmac Mode and Power Mode, if you want good handling then go for Tarmac Mode since it makes the AYC System more active.

      @@rapide12345 just one correction here bro. The ICE is not purely working as a generator here. Under hard acceleration it also contributes power directly to the wheels.

      @mazbpl Confused...04:55 shows full EV/ICE in "Power" mode under hard acceleration, but no direct power to the wheels from the ICE. Shouldn't the ICE also be connected by the transaxle?

      @@1945sas No, that's the reason why the Outlander's max power and torque is rated only for the e-motors and no addition from the ICE, max power is at 248HP (113HP in the front and 134HP in the rear) and 450NM or 332lb-ft (188lb-ft on the front and 144lb-ft in the rear) is because it's not driving the front wheels all the time even if it's in power mode and tarmac mode, that's also the reason why Mitsubishi's PHEV System is one of the most consistent and smoothest system in the world is because even if the battery is low or of it's completely dead, the max power is still available, the engine will drive the front wheels via a Trans-Axle Transmission only when cruising on highway again cruising on highway where it's the most efficient.

    Very interesting 1/4 top speed considering the decent acceleration. Only 1.7 kph quicker than the mighty Chery Omoda. Well I guess its only meant to be driven at a top speed of 110kph.

    Very quick, provided that the battery is fully charged. How fast would it be if the battery charge was completely depleted?

      Yeah, it would be interesting to know what's the acceleration time with the empty HV battery.

      That wouldnt happen with a PHEV. The engine charges the battery when necessary. The only way you could empty the battery is if you are in EV mode or if you run out of fuel and the engine cuts out

      @@user-vk4vd7vr5t The idea is to let the car in EV mode until the it switches to hybrid mode (when you run out of EV range). And then to test the car if it has the same performance.

      @@user-vk4vd7vr5t If you take your PHEV car on a long roadtrip you will eventually run out of EV range and the car will switch to hybrid mode. And because EV range is quite reduced you will have to drive the car with the battery discharged, so you should know how is the performance of an PHEV without charging it.

    From 4:46 to 5:40 your video shows the vehicle is in "Power" mode. But at no stage does the display show power going directly from the engine to the wheels. At speeds above 70 km/hr the engine is supposed to, or is able to, engage directly with the front wheels, to provide additional power and torque to the front wheels. The display showed that this was NOT happening. So the vehicle was NOT operating at it's highest performance capability. Was this a fault with this particular vehicle, or is there another mode, i.e. "Normal" that allows this connection to happen. I would have thought that it would happen in "Power" mode. Why didn't it happen. The way is was operating in your video meant that it only had access to the power and torque produced by the two motors, i.e. 185 kW & ??N.m. It did not have access to the additional power and torque produced by the engine. All the engine was doing was recharging the battery and/or maintaining the voltage (and current) to the motors. My question then is, "In which drive mode DOES the engine connect, through the single speed transmission, to the front axle, as the brochure and spec's say that it can?" Is it in "Normal" mode, or "Tarmac" mode.
    To put it another way. In your video, the vehicle was only operating in "Series Hybrid Mode" and NOT in "Parallel Hybrid Mode". In "Parallel Hybrid Mode" the engine connects, via the single speed gearbox, directly to the front axle. If this was happening, the driver display would show power flowing directly from the engine to the wheels AND from the battery to the wheels, as well as from the engine to the battery. So power would be flowing along ALL THREE pathways on the "ENERGY FLOW" driver display. In your video, it only ever showed energy flowing from the engine to the battery, and then to the wheels. So, there is no way it performed as well as it can. Why was this so???

      In power mode and tarmac mode is where you get the full 248HP and 450NM of torque, the engine is just a generator, the whole 248HP and 450NM of torque is just the electric motors, even if you put it in power mode or tarmac mode it won't add additional HP like other hybrids do, the GAS engines job in this hybrid system is just purely being a generator so that it's more consistent, even if the battery is depleted it's still full power.

      @@rapide12345 No. You are incorrect. If you read the brochure it clearly states that the hybrid system on the Mitsubishi Outlander can operate in two distinctly different hybrid modes. 1). Parallel, and 2) Series. In 1). Parallel, it operates as you have described, with the engine running to spin the generator which provides electrical energy to a) drive the motors AND b) charge the battery. In 2) Series mode ( which occurs at "high" speeds ) the engine engages directly with the front axle, via the single speed gearbox, to provide additional power AND torque to the front wheels. It is only in 2) Series Hybrid mode that you can realise the full power and torque of the system.
      Just to make it clear, and state it again, in the Mitsubishi Outlander the engine is NOT just a generator. At "high" speeds the engine will engage DIRECTLY with the front axle and provide additional power and torque to the front wheels.
      I have seen another video on UA-cam where the display shows this happening, at a speed of approximately 140 km/hr the display clearly shows the engine engaging with the front wheels, and energy flowing directly from the engine to the front wheels, AS WELL AS from the engine ( via the generator ) to the battery.

      @@Pdougie2 Because on power mode, the GAS engine only acts as a generator, the Outlanders full HP and Torque is 248HP and 450NM of torque coming purely from the e-motors, you can't add the additional HP from the GAS engine like how other hybrids work because it doesn't work that way, the Outlander can directly drive the front wheels on cruising speeds like on a highway, but when accelerating it's all from the e-motors.

    TEST DO OVER!!!!!!!! You had the wrong setting on when testing the acceleration. By default, when you put the car in either POWER MODE or TARMAC MODE it is set to, "B5". B means that there is regenerative/RESISTANCE breaking while you are driving. I am 99.99% positive that if you perform these test again, they will be better.

      Wrong. I own one of these. If you put it into power or tarmac b5 is the standard setting for regen breaking. Breaking is the keyword, has no effect unless you are breaking.

    0-100 is good but 1/4 mile and trap speed is bad considering the 7.1 seconds 0-100.

      @@user-vk4vd7vr5t No, the reason is this car is powered only by electric motors. And we know that electric motors have big torque (and power) at low rpms (start) but run out of puff at high rpms (the car doesn't have gears).

      @@Eugen-E completely wrong. In parallel hybrid mode for maximum performance, The ICE provides power directly to the front wheels as well as being a generator for the battery pack and electric motors.

      Actually gents you’re both right. And both wrong. The car can send power from the engine to the front wheels through a single speed transaxle but this is an eco feature for speeds above 70kmph. This feature is also used when the road speed is above 140 kmph when the electric motors run out of puff and the engine revs are high enough to provide full power. It’s correct that at speeds under 140kmph the maximum power and acceleration is achieved by powering the wheels exclusively through the electric motors. However this does require the engine to be running as the better y Alaine cannot send the full power to the motors.
