Hey idk if you read but can you one more of this and also i was happy that i wasn't alone in the breaking heart part in game Also thank you for this incredible video 😊
Hey mate - great interview - but on an aside - you should have given Jen the hint that she could play Shadowheart in the game (instead of a custom character) and romance Karlach for real (imaginary). I was always going to romance Shadowheart in my 1st play through after playing early access, but when Karlach turned up . . Act 2 was really hard with my toughest choice being which one (I picked Shadowheart btw - and I think Karlach also has a little written crush on Shadowheart as well from the conversations after I made my choice)
Holy cow...hi there, I'm Tom- the voice director who Jen mentions when talking about the Romance scenes. (And who she had brunch with). So sweet to have a shout out like that so thank you, Jen. Actors' and Crews' safety is paramount when it comes to handling sensitive topics and scenes - it happens in Film, TV and Theatre, so Production in Games should also handle material in the same way too!
I love Jen more than I love giving Gale magic rocks at camp. You brought so much life to Shadowheart's character. Thanks Jen for making me obsess over a video game character
1:25:02 Similarly for me, what draws me to Shadowheart is the intrinsic goodness in her. She has been brainwashed by a cult and had her memory wiped, but she still approves of when you're kind to animals and when you help people. She is not selfish or cruel at all. I guess it makes me kind of hopeful (even if it is fiction) that despite someone's circumstances, they can still be a good person.
It is a healthy thing to think. If you don't believe that, humans become evil by nature. Even if it was true, that means you live surrounded by potential enemies. That is not a good philosophy for a happy life.
Still VERY early in the game, but she gives off the vibe of a PC who wanted to be like, mysterious and edgy but can’t help being a sweetheart and I love it.
That’s what I love about how they portray. Has a very dark past but has morals buried deep subconsciously and to bring her out to see the light is rewarding to me.
Shadowheart is currently one of the most interesting companions in the game (she's one of my favorites and the romance arc has been very engaging). The voice actress sounds like a lovely lady and she did a phenomenal job playing the character and added a very human element to her that's hard to put your finger on.
I finished her quest line and I thought it was so compelling, that in a different universe you could make a stand alone game just about her story alone. For those that have finished her quest line, do you think that it is coincidence what Shadowhearts true name is, considering that Jen voices her?
I just got diagnosed with ADHD last year and everything she says resonates. especially the school and homework part. I coasted through highschool and never really learned how to study. most of my assignments were done on the bus ride to school. Had good grades. College was a real kick in the ass. Left me feeling like a failure and kind of aimless for about a decade. Didn't have any desires and couldn't make myself do anything. I would literally stare at an icon for a game i wanted to play on my desktop and i just could not click the damn thing and start it. No hobbies. Minimal social life. Would just not talk to certain people for months at a time. It really does build up like she says: all the little things become one giant ball of shame where you constantly ask yourself "wtf is wrong with me?" Then i started therapy and found out. Understanding everything completely changed how i see myself. Of course i didnt do well in college. Of course i have no motivation. Of course my memory is terrible and i always backed out of social commitments. You stop looking at those things as personal failures and learn to actually be proud of yourself for adapting and being able to overcome these things despite having no clue that your executive functions are impaired. And thats what it really is. Youll see a lot of people mocking us saying just try harder or stop being distracted with your iphone. They have no clue what ADHD really is. I didn't either. TLDR: go to therapy.
Been wondering about whether I should try to get a diagnosis, but I feel like I'd probably get told there's nothing wrong with me. I've had no idea what I want to do with my life, career-wise. Hate studying because unless I'm really interested in something I just can't do it (and I'm not interested in a lot, so...). The only thing I can focus on is videogames but I tend to hyperfocus to an obsessive degree sometimes. Avoid social situations generally too, like you've said. My brain feels broken most of the time, when I'm comparing myself to other people.
Damn, that experience with school was 100% me, and it developed somewhat into my professional career until I got diagnosed and assisted. Hope you're doing great now! It's been life-changing for me
as someone with ADHD I completely resonate with what Jennifer said. it took a long time to get over those feelings of lack of self worth and to realize my brain is literally wired differently than others and to not be so hard on myself. It makes me happy to see people with ADHD succeeding and living their best lives, it motivates me to find my own version of success for myself!
I have autism and my daughter has all the signs for ADHD but hasn’t been diagnosed yet but so much of what she said fits my daughter. Unfortunately no one ever mentions how to deal with it. She obviously needs to go to school And do her homework so just saying she doesn’t have to isn’t an option but she cries all the time when I tell her she can’t watch her tablet all night and stuff and I don’t really know how to deal with it. Regarding the game I haven’t even played it but just watching all the reviews I could tell I would like Shadowheart.
@@wertywerrtyson5529 Hey, umm, I'm by no means a medical professional, I'd get your daughter in to see someone for sure so that she can get some personal help. However, I didn't get diagnosed with ADHD till last year at 31, and my 8 year old son has it as well, now that I know what to look for. If you're looking for some basic help, here are a few things that I and my son have found very helpful- Centering exercises - Our brains want to be everywhere at once. When I was working with the SF, they gave us a tool that they use frequently. They called it SLLFS (pronouced Silfs). Stop, Look, Listen, Feel, Smell. You stop whatever you're doing and take like 1 minute just pausing. Whatever that looks like in the moment. Sitting down, getting comfortable. Then you look around. Take note of everything you can see. Give each thing a little attention, then move on to the next. Next, listen. In a building, do you hear the AC? Can you hear the fan in your computer? Someone talking nearby? What are they saying? The house settling? Then feel. How does your body feel right then? Any aches, anywhere cold or warm? Is your mouth dry, are you hungry? Then smell. Once you're this focused, you might notice smells that you had been blocking out. Then execute the mission/task you have in front of you. This has worked wonders for me. Because with ADHD you want to pay attention to everything, this allows you to do that, but in a directed way, and by the end of it you've kind of taken charge. So now you can start your task and put your energy into it because you've channeled your whole brain into it. So I've helped my son do it, and he says when he gets distracted at school he'll catch himself and quickly do SLLFS to focus up. Doesn't have to take a lot of time. Similarly, guided meditation. I've found that ADHD people are more likely to have VERY visual imaginations. Guiding them through meditation and painting a picture in their mind helps them calm down while giving them some things to focus on. Imagination requires a lot of brain power, so you can stop all the other thoughts by focusing on the big hard thought. And the other big things are understanding that when your kid says they don't have homework, or they don't know what they want for dinner, or what have you, they really don't think they do. Once that homework got assigned and was no longer in front of them, it stopped existing in their brain. So having some kind of visual reminder or physical inspection of their responsibilities will help. Also task breakdowns. "Clean your room" is a paralyzing command for some people with ADHD, because it has a lot of components and when they hit their first unknown, "Where does this go?" rather than set it to the side they'll get totally sidetracked and just give up. "Pick up your clothes off the floor." "Good, now toys." "Good, now take everything off your bed." Change your sheets. These direct, simple commands will help them do things. And once you start that pattern, they'll learn to keep following that pattern, so that "clean your room" isn't a command, so much as a prompt to start a known routine. Routines work wonders.
What an absolute sweetheart, I'm so smitten with her and this entire cast they're all such a wonderful group of people. And you Dan are an amazing interviewer, making it more of a comfortable sit in rather than stuffy awkwardness. Instant subscribe. Crossing my fingers for Halsin's VA to join in on this!
It's really nice to see so many females enjoying a game like this, wasn't like this growing up you were considered a loser as a boy for playing games in school by females. Friggin refreshing/wholesome.
her voice just hits different. it was her voice who immediately made me save her from the ship in the beginning of bg3. it was her voice who made me fell in love with shadowhearts personality. I feel like whenever i start the game again and join back into the crew theres shadowheart who I feel like is my best friend I can trust. I keep speaking to her character whenever I do a long rest, even though she has nothing new to tell me. its just so nice to hear her voice again to calm me down.
her character annoyed me throughout the game, but it's definitely her voice that redeemed everything. I got so invested in hearing her snobby voice lines. It added a level of depth and drama the game needed
This needs to happen! All the companion voice actors play a DnD one shot, playing as their BG3 characters with Brennan Lee Mulligan as DM. How amazing would that be to watch.
@@kl0sedonw3dnesdayadd the narrator (amelia) too, and if brennan's not available, matt mercer is a great alternative (and he did voice a character in bg3...)
As soon as I saw the little "Shadowheart Approves" pop up when I was just doing what I would naturally do in that situation, I knew she would be the GOAT.
Man, Companions in this game are on a true Dragon Age: Origins level. Absolutely lovely, each in his or her own way. Astarion made me laugh so often, Karlach is just the good soul of the camp, a heart of gold and so naughty 😏 The voice acting is one of the best, if not THE best I have ever heared in a video game and character animations match it so perfectly. Astarion complaining about being in a group of weirods is absolut gold.
Agreed the only game that could trump it in voice acting I think could be The Witcher 3 but sadly just saying the Witcher puts a sour taste in my mouth now after that Netflix abomination
I don't know about that lmao. There is only like 2 party members i like in this game. It's not the voice actors fault, its that most of the characters are lame or poorly written. Funny enough i think too many weirdos is one of my issues with them.
Jennifer your performance as Shadowheart was freaking AMAZING! I love every bit of it! Thanks so much for your artistry! And thanks Dan yet again for giving us these great interviews!!!
ALL the actors are to be praised. Some of the most interesting and well-acted performances turned in by anyone in any medium in recent memory. Props to the writers, and much admiration for the work and talent that came together to build this piece of art. Thank-you, on behalf of the fans.
Shadowheart is my favorite companion by far. Knowing a little about the Forgotten Realms and loving Shar and Selune as Deities, I did guess the basic story line from the start especially with Shadowheart's reactions. I just loved following the storyline and easily would love to see any books based on this. Loved the voice acting of her, Jennifer did an amazing job.
She is an absolute breath of fresh air. I could listen to her talk for hours (points above) and did lol. I like that the character meant so much and was approached so seriously by her it shows in the voice acting and is appreciated.
Gotta say, Shadowheart by far is my favorite character in the game, and great deal of it resides on those important story moments in act 3 where Jen's acting was flawless and the writing was so real, that i was completely stunned. (did a good playthrough first). My god, i think she may be my favorite companion of all time, rivaling the likes of Kreia, Yennefer, Garrus and BG2 Minsc.
Kreia was sooooo good, Kotor 2 is one of my childhood core memories and it definitely ruined star wars for me becaus the Kotor 2 narrative was so superior.
@@NovaTrap1312 entire light side / dark side conflict could be explained and fixed just based on kreia's teachings. Makes a lot of sense too when force itself finally has enough of their shit and wipes out both Jedi AND Sith order through Anakin. It is the worship of extremes which continuously plunges galaxy into chaos. Still nobody makes those connections in Disney though. Anakin would be the perfect teacher for it, he learned from Sidious who hoarded knowledge unlike any other, he'd have come across Darth Revan and his era of Jedi and Sith. Ofc Sidious would disagree but anyone who held such power through manipulation alone would earn tremendous respect from him.
I got a lot out of Jen sharing her ADHD experience. It's helping to change my perspective on how my own kids behave and function. I need to be vastly more patient and encouraging than I have been. Thank you for this. And yeah, Shadowheart kicks ass! (Literally saved the party twice with some crit hits)
Oh man I'm so in love with Shadowheart's character mainly owing to how well voiced she is. Jennifer is a amazingly talented actress. You really feel the emotions coming out of her voice acting (especially in regards to Shar) and some of the scenes with the main protagonist were truly memorable. Thanks for making this wonderful interview happen!
Jennifer is as lovely IRL as IG, she deserves so many things in her life and all our support. Thanks to her, Shadowheart is by far the best companion ever and even if I spend a lot of times on BG3, I can play again and again just for interact with her. I have no game without Shadowheart 🤭 Amazing perfomance, Amazing Person, all is amazing in her !!! Thank you for all ❤
Jen you are amazing, so gracious and honest. Shadowheart is a beautiful character, your passion and talent shine through. Wonderful moments with her throughout, and I've still got the journey to complete!
You got the part because you have a lovely voice that perfectly shows the cross over between shadowhearts sassy nature she uses to hide her vulnerability and her charming youthful ways to express excitement and joy shes been denied as a child. Wonderful hearing the voice behind the voice
What a wonderful, wonderful interview. Thanks for all of the emotional authenticity and vulnerability. You deserve everything good in life, Jennifer! And kudos to you Dan for making space for this interchange. ❤❤❤
Her and Karlach are tied for my favorite and seeing her loving what she did with the role just makes me happy. Hope to see more of her in the future. Shadow heart is cool, nuts, unique, and fun. Hard to impossible to not have her on your team . Towards the end of act three and already thinking about my next playthrough
Honestly, I thought the same and was worried about my second playthrough since I wanted to run with other companions and I thought I'd miss Shadowheart and Karlach, and while I'm missing them, there are other amazing companions that are simply a delight to have in your party.
Don’t have ADHD, but I do have autism (along with depression and social anxiety for the trifecta!). It took me years to feel confident with my eccentricities and then take pride in them-and I was diagnosed at 10, I can only imagine finding out in your twenties, that realization must have been cathartic.
Jen is SO cute and SO humble, I love her, her amazing performance and obviously amazing great personality. Thanks a lot for this long and nice chat to make her talk a lot.
Been watching all your BG3 interviews/conversations. Really dig your approach to these opportunities, the chilled vibe really brings about some great talking points.
every day i see something new about bg3 or see an interview im reminded that this really is a special case and we wont see this again for awhile. the last time people were so loving about an RPG was the witcher 3 and before that, skyrim. BG3 is just the perfect storm
If they ever make a Live Action version of BG3, I pray they'll use these actors. They all seem so super sweet. Jennifer is such a lovely mix of sweet, funny and adorable. All of the cast seems so lovely. Would love to see all of them in a Live Action of anything, but preferably BG3 of course. I dunno who else is on Dan's list of 'guests'. But I'm personally (again love the ones from BG3 so far) the heavy hitter when it comes to VA's is the man the legend behind MINSC. Please dear Dan, get him to come on. One of the best human beings, not to mention awesome VA. (and yes I didnt mention the name of Minsc's VA, but I'm sure most ppl know, and if you dont..well...shame. lol)
Thanks for all these interviews each is better than the last, because each one is longer than the last. But I have loved them all and hope you can collect all the companions in these interviews. It's so nice that everyone seems to have enjoyed their roles.
Dan. Man. You are KILLING these interviews. Absolutely fucking wonderful stuff. I'm drinking to your health. Also Jennifer's. Also the rest of 'em. Actually, I'm quite drunk. I love you, man. Also Jennifer. Also the rest of 'em. I love all you cats.
Absolutely loved Jennifer's performance! I instantly recognised her voice in Elden Ring, after playing early access Shadowheart was one of the most memorable characters to me besides Astarion
Jen's voice acting definitely played a huge part of why I enjoyed Shart's arc so much. Incredibly written and made me question myself as I role play the supposed hero who realized, also in real life, that I could be really untrusting. Lovely interview and thanks for sharing DAG!
Jen's comment about "I want to be best friends with *everyone*" reminds me of the epilogue convo with Scratch: "She's my best friend. And you're my best friend. And Owlbear's my best friend."
Holy cow, can't believe my question actually made it on here. This was really wonderful to watch and listen to! I had a good chuckle when Jennifer went on a tangent thanks to my question. :)
All the voice actors were really amazing! Shadowheart though, was not better than anyone else's or anything, but my god is the voice ever so special. I can't even figure out what it is, but I could hear those voice lines over and over.
Dan, thank you so much for this interview and, in general, all the BG3 interviews. You gave them a lot of space to talk, which seems rare nowadays, and the result are such genuine and engaging interviews. 2 hours, and it's like time flies. Of course, thanks as well to Jen and all the actors for giving their time! And to Aliona for giving us Jen for that entire time. This was super interesting to watch, with all the behind the scenes info, as well as other topics. I did not know, for example, or was not expecting, that the research into ADHD for assigned female at birth people is less advanced, but of course why wouldn't it be, in this world we live in. But yeah, it's awesome learning new things about other topics! Thanks for keeping feminism, LGBTQ+ and other minorities in the forefront. And Circe is noted down, greek mythology from a woman's voice? Awesome. I'll have to try dark Shadowheart in some playthrough, if I actually can manage to actually take the bad route. I'm sure it will be fun, getting my heart broken by watching all my companions take bad decisions. To finish this bible of a comment, thank you, Jen, for the riggers shoutout!
I 100% understand her point about having an official diagnosis and being able to relate to the "This is me, oh this is me too." It allowed me to be more self aware of the traits and to be better about them.
Shadowheart had such an amazing and interesting character arc and Jen did an outstanding job bringing her character to life. Baldur's Gate 3 is an absolute masterpiece and I'm glad it's getting such widespread respect.
Watching this interview I understand so many more things about shadowheart's characterization! She's also very interesting to listen to, with her positive and genuine attitude.
A ton of what Jennifer English said in this interview really resonated with me. I was also diagnosed with ADHD later in life, and I've also had a long journey as I try to see my own emotions/sensitivity as a possible blessing, and not a curse. Seeing the people who make the art/stories you look up to having similar experiences to yours is pretty special. And Dan, I'm making my way through these BG3 interviews and I think you do a great job engaging people, sort of following lines of questions that will really give them an opportunity to share their personality/interests and give the people watching a sense of that person. Thank you for that!
What a fantastic way to spend almost 2 hours. Just a wonderful conversation. Thank you Jenn for spending this time and answering the questions and THANK YOU for giving us the gift of Shadowheart!
This is the game the whole world needs right now. The positivity in the game even with the calamitous events feels great. The way Lae'Zel starts out so gruff and mean and softens to the point she wakes you up to watch the sunrise with her is amazing. Shadowheart, despite the dark story displays such a sweetness and innocence, it's a one of a kind game.
I'm seriously impressed with Jennifer as a person. I've watched all three of the ladies and they are all so engaging; I don't know if that's a British thing or what, but they all come across really well. I can tell that Jennifer is a very high IQ individual even though she says she's not. Another great interview.
Shadowheart is an amazing characer. Her journey is one of the best thing to experience in the game imo. Massive props to Jennifer to voice her, great job. I also resonate deeply with ADHD. I'm blessed that now I'm in a job where my thing is not a massive thing where I'm called out if I fail or if I forget stuff. It helps so much to be respected and also helps with working with the condition.
39:58 the conversation about sharing art, and being okay with being rubbish, or taking the risk of sharing... a professor of mine in art school said "if you aren't scared or vulnerable about what you're putting out, you're not putting enough into it"
Actual good content to enjoy with morning coffee, like the game (BG3) itself. ❤Dan good with the voice actors, guiding them with the right questions and comments so they actually seem thrilled to tell in depth about their experience. So feels more than just "forced PR quickie", great to watch! :)
Thank you, Dan! It was a wonderful interview or podcast, I do not know what it was, so I called what I think it was. But I felt a deep connection and didn't even speed-up the interview. I enjoyed this magnificent, cozy and touching conversation. Jennifer is a brilliant, open-minded, authentic, empathetic person. (these are rare qualities for our days, and this is her unique feature) I was completely immersed to your conversation in the interview. I admire these human traits and people who have the same traits as Jennifer and I have. I would like people to be the same as Jennifer, or at least remain themselves. (I mean positive traits) These are the rarest people like diamonds, and there are so few of them in the world that even one such twinkling light can illuminate the darkness of our daily lives just by talking in a UA-cam video. From the bottom of my heart, I thank Jennifer and Dan for this wonderful interview, which helped me radiate hope and continue my journey in this incarnation on Earth. P.S. Sorry, for writting a non-sense. I was to enthusiastic to write the comment. I usually don't do that only when I felt emotionaly gripped by something interesting. And so, for me, writing a comment is a difficult and rare case.
I came here just to see what the VAs had to say about their incredible work on BG3. Did not expect to identify the same ADHD traits I struggle with in Neil and Jennifer who embrace it. Super validating! The camaraderie built up over the course of 4 years must be something so special. Thank you for this interview!
I've been playing shadowheart as an origin character and it's been amazing stepping inside her mind, there narration for you as an origin character is great and you forge a real connection with her ,she has a great story .
Voice acting and motion capture are absolutely magic in BG3. They are the reason why non C-RPG players are loving the game. The impact of all dialogues having actual acting is huge and not only for new joiners but for every player having emotions.
Oh I'm so happy this came upon my feed. I love this cast so much. Jennifer English, much like the rest of them, seems like such a beautiful person. Awesome interview Dan! Really love this flow. Can't wait to watch the rest of them!
Thanks for the interview. I loved ShadowHeart action. Jenifer is amazing VA in this character. Shadowheart is the number 1 character in this masterpiece. She is a true Main Character in the Story. We need more shadowheart Larian! Just do it!
Just finished the game, my first playthrough is 183 hours. Love this game. Love all companions. I did romance Shadowheart and was happy to see her in my ending scene. It's bitter-sweet, but a good ending for her character. Loved to see the personal growth and changes of Shadowheart. And isn't she sight for sore eyes.
Imagine Matt Mercer DMing a one shot with all the origin actors. I know I would watch. BTW - Shadowheart is my favorite character, and a big part of that is this voice actress.
BG3 actually made me cry at points for happy and sad reasons, a unique experience for me from a game. Shadowheart was definitely a huge part of that. When she has that huge decision, I don't think I could have stood if it went one way and not the other. Very powerful. Salute to a fellow ADHDer too :D I found out last year and it was life changing. What a wonderful lady, I resonate with that a lot.
Voice actor prettier then the actual charcter that's rare. Great video! Hope all the voice actors in this wonderful game get a lot more roles they deserve it all of them did a amazing job
She is so loved, and Shadowheart is such an awesome chaarcter. Sweet and easy to be a goofball at times as well. These writers really know what they're doing...
What an amazing interview. Jennifer English - You are awesome! Amazing! Sending my love to you! Thanks for giving life to our beloved Shadowheart! You are a star!
Jennifer is so real with how she described her ADHD. It resonates so much with me. Shadowheart is an amazing and detailed character, just as so many. This game is perfection, with all the actors being incredible with their performances.
I want to thank you for this great interview, the time spent flying. I'm someone who has played many RPGs, specially JRPG since the 90s, I've experienced great stories, but I have to admit that I've never experienced something like Baldur's Gate 3 and never fell in love more with a character than it happened to me with Shadowheart, the writing of her character and the brilliant voice acting made Shadowheart become the greatest character in video games ever for me (and I've played MANY games), this is something quite extraordinary, and I'm happy to meet this lovely person Jennifer English who is behind this work of art, I am really thankful for everyone involved in creating this masterpiece; as a fellow woman, I can't feel prouder to see Shadowheart becoming a legendary character and knowing that it was greatly because of someone so kind, smart and interesting like Jennifer English. Thank you so much Dan for doing this interview and letting us hear Jennifer's thoughts and knowing more about the insights of what went through the creation of this beautiful game. Now I'm subscribed for sure, keep up all the good work.
Earned yourself a new subscriber with these BG3 interviews, Dan! Really laid back interview style, I love it. I’d never played D&D before but I had played BG2 back in the PS2 days, this game has very quickly become an obsession.
I adore her character so much, and as a person Jennifer English is such a ray of sunshine. What a blessing the entire BG3 project has been for gamers and everyone involved in such a lowpoint in history otherwise, for humanity. It's nice to have nice things once in awhile for us all to share. Baldur's Gate 3 is just one of those nice things that brought everyone together for awhile and I hope it continues to for as long as possible.
I love watching interviews of actors just to get a feel for what they are like and damn Jennifer is so sweet. She did a great job with Shadowheart. I wish her nothing but the best.
they really didn't though, expressions are similar cuz they used mocap, but none of these people look similar to their in game character beyond that lmao. you guys are all blind af
SH is definitely my favourite companion in BG3 and Jen, much like the other VAs, did a fantastic job bringing the character to life. I definitely went down what you would call the good path and I don't regret it for a second.
[including spoilers] I love that Lae'zel and Shadowheart hate each other so much, while actually being perfect mirrors of each other. They are both deeply indoctrinated and blindly follow a belief that ultimately betrays them, they both believe they are destined to a certain role or position, while learning they are just tools and it's not about them being special at all, and they ultimately have to overcome the fact that their whole world view and everything that motivated them is taken away, and ultimately even hunts them down and attacks them. There are so many parallels in the stories of these two characters!

Dude, Jen streaming this game might break the internet 😂
Hey idk if you read but can you one more of this and also i was happy that i wasn't alone in the breaking heart part in game
Also thank you for this incredible video 😊
U guys are awesome 👏
Thank you and all wonderful people in the team! 😭😭😭😭
My name is Tom too! We rule! Game is fantastic with the acting, top tier stuff great work!
haha nice! is she good in bed?
you are a legend, looking forward to your future work.
When Shadowheart says: "So that's what it feels like to have butterflies in your stomach..." I. Melt.
Me too ❤
her voice is the sweetest most beautiful voice ive ever heard
i also melt when she agreed with a 4some
I love Jen more than I love giving Gale magic rocks at camp.
You brought so much life to Shadowheart's character. Thanks Jen for making me obsess over a video game character
It get's even better once you find out Shadowheart's original name.
@@kevintran7208 hehe I was really surprised. I actually cried during that scene
Nearly as much fun as pushing Gale off a ledge or simply blasting him with whatever you have ready. Wizards can never be trusted.
Shadowheart is beautiful as well as her voice actress!
I am not surprised at all to see you here.
Too right though.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yeah, that's what I love, too.
Also, stunning character too.
Agree. but anything you said works for every character either. This game is a piece of art.
I finished her quest line and I thought it was so compelling, that in a different universe you could make a stand alone game just about her story alone.
For those that have finished her quest line, do you think that it is coincidence what Shadowhearts true name is, considering that Jen voices her?
@@guiguijol100% true.
But not hard to put your finger IN!
I swear all the voice actors in this game are Amazing! Larian definitely found real talent!
It definitely adds a ton to the immersion feeling. BG3 certainly wouldn't feel so special without the top notch voice acting
@@deceiver444totally. Gives so much replayability too!
It really does build up like she says: all the little things become one giant ball of shame where you constantly ask yourself "wtf is wrong with me?"
Then i started therapy and found out.
My story is the exact same as you! Glad we were able to make it through 💜
Damn, that experience with school was 100% me, and it developed somewhat into my professional career until I got diagnosed and assisted.
I'm having a particularly bad ADHD day today, so this interview has been good for my soul.
I have autism and my daughter has all the signs for ADHD but hasn’t been diagnosed yet but so much of what she said fits my daughter. Unfortunately no one ever mentions how to deal with it. She obviously needs to go to school
And do her homework so just saying she doesn’t have to isn’t an option but she cries all the time when I tell her she can’t watch her tablet all night and stuff and I don’t really know how to deal with it.
If you're looking for some basic help, here are a few things that I and my son have found very helpful-
Centering exercises - Our brains want to be everywhere at once.
@@wertywerrtyson5529 Do you know the channel "How to ADHD"? She has lots of good advice on various difficulties with ADHD. ❤
Vegans and people with adhd, always.
Yeah all the actors are lovely people. And they really knocked it out of the park with their performances. Unbelievable. Very special game.
It's really nice to see so many females enjoying a game like this, wasn't like this growing up you were considered a loser as a boy for playing games in school by females. Friggin refreshing/wholesome.
I love how her voice acting sounds like a real person. Real people don't enunciate perfectly when they're casually talking. I love it.
OMG, Shadowheart finally!!!❤
Dan the man has done it!
her voice just hits different. it was her voice who immediately made me save her from the ship in the beginning of bg3. it was her voice who made me fell in love with shadowhearts personality. I feel like whenever i start the game again and join back into the crew theres shadowheart who I feel like is my best friend I can trust. I keep speaking to her character whenever I do a long rest, even though she has nothing new to tell me. its just so nice to hear her voice again to calm me down.
you nailed it. She has a magnetic trustworthy voice.
"Good. I was just starting to miss the sound of your voice"
her character annoyed me throughout the game, but it's definitely her voice that redeemed everything. I got so invested in hearing her snobby voice lines. It added a level of depth and drama the game needed
Jen had the most unique sounding voice of all the VAs. Was a pleasure to listen to Shadowheart speak every time.
This needs to happen! All the companion voice actors play a DnD one shot, playing as their BG3 characters with Brennan Lee Mulligan as DM. How amazing would that be to watch.
omg love this idea🥹
@@kl0sedonw3dnesdayadd the narrator (amelia) too, and if brennan's not available, matt mercer is a great alternative (and he did voice a character in bg3...)
that would be so funny
Amelia can reprise Maladay. That character needs more story.
Why Brennan and not Mercer? He has nothing to do with BG3 while Matt is Minsc... weird choice.
OMG I love ShadowHeart, and I'm sure at this point everyone loves Her. Thank you for bringing life to this amazing character!
As soon as I saw the little "Shadowheart Approves" pop up when I was just doing what I would naturally do in that situation, I knew she would be the GOAT.
one of the first things my coop dude did in our save was killing her after that laezel morning szene. 2 weeks later i am still not over it xD
Honestly, theygo beyond them in terms of in game content with quests and stuff but youre absolutely right, they are spiritual successors
@@upsetti6404 Yeah agree. BG3 Companions are on another level. Origins were nice, but BG3 are just far more complete, unique and superieur.
Agreed the only game that could trump it in voice acting I think could be The Witcher 3 but sadly just saying the Witcher puts a sour taste in my mouth now after that Netflix abomination
Larian has been working over the last decade to inherit the OG Bioware torch, and after DOS II and BG3, it seems they've earned it.
Her voice is so beautiful and unique that I'm afraid I will only hear Shadowheart in every other of her next projects.
Honestly a thrill to see such talented voice actors getting the credit and attention they deserve. Such a lovely interview with a lovely person!
She's just adorable. And that bubbly personality! Just makes the room shine to hear her.
Shadow heart and laezel were extremely well written. There’s a ton of character development for them, very well done and well delivered
The voice acting/casting and writing in this game are top tier. Larian did a phenomenal job, as did all involved.
Jennifer is as lovely IRL as IG, she deserves so many things in her life and all our support.
Thanks to her, Shadowheart is by far the best companion ever and even if I spend a lot of times on BG3, I can play again and again just for interact with her. I have no game without Shadowheart 🤭
Amazing perfomance, Amazing Person, all is amazing in her !!!
Thank you for all ❤
Ms. English, thank you. Your contribution is significant and much appreciated. We are glad you are happy.
I really hope she will get more awesome contracts from now on. Her voice is ... just pure gold!
I love her voice, it's so memorable. Thank you so much for making Shadowheart such a memorable character in BG3.
Thanks a lot for this long and nice chat to make her talk a lot.
she must be protected at all costs
Shart? That is a poor abbreviation. A shart is where you fart and shit your pants. I'd re-think that one bud.
That's the nickname the fandom gave her and they talk about it in this video lol
Not going to lie, fell in love with Shadowheart mainly because of her voice acting. You are very talented Jennifer!
Jen's comment about "I want to be best friends with *everyone*" reminds me of the epilogue convo with Scratch:
"She's my best friend.
Being evil is tough. The only people still with me in act 2 are shadowheart and astarion 🤣😂 Really tough for me to pick evil choices
Thank you for making this great interview!!
Shadowheart brought so much needed joy into my life. Thank you Jen!
What a beautiful person and a beautiful interview. The art of stagecraft is so well displayed here. Bravo!
I came here just to see what the VAs had to say about their incredible work on BG3. Did not expect to identify the same ADHD traits I struggle with in Neil and Jennifer who embrace it. Super validating!
The camaraderie built up over the course of 4 years must be something so special. Thank you for this interview!
Loving her voice , so pleasant to listen to.
Enjoy! And thanks so much!
I like how the VAs all say the writing/directors are big parts of making the characters as they are. They're the hero's behind the scenes.
Shes got the most perfect voice
Imagine Matt Mercer DMing a one shot with all the origin actors. I know I would watch.
BTW - Shadowheart is my favorite character, and a big part of that is this voice actress.
Someone needs to connect them with CR, stat!
@@Gidsoundbites Matt Mercer voices Minsc ;-)
@@astranger448 which is exactly the point
@@astranger448And he is a fan of the game. So I would guess he'd be up for it.
Shadowheart’s story touched me deeply… I love her, incredible job!🖤
Oh wow, her voice is so beautiful! There is something so calming and comforting about it
Jen is such a sweetheart, i love her 😭 an amazing professional and fantastic person, she deserves all the love in the world
Earned yourself a new subscriber with these BG3 interviews, Dan!
Thank you Dan for all the interviews. BTW She is sooo relatable! Love her for that!
I love watching interviews of actors just to get a feel for what they are like and damn Jennifer is so sweet. She did a great job with Shadowheart. I wish her nothing but the best.
It’s cool how Larian made some in game characters look a lot like their voice actors
they really didn't though, expressions are similar cuz they used mocap, but none of these people look similar to their in game character beyond that lmao. you guys are all blind af
They look nothing alike.
@@Meowtro yeah they do. shadow heart and Asterion’s voice actors have some likeness
@@Meowtro you can even watch some of her interviews and she has some of the same mannerisms.
Live action maybe? Hell, I'd be game for just a short skit with the actors.
SH is definitely my favourite companion in BG3 and Jen, much like the other VAs, did a fantastic job bringing the character to life. I definitely went down what you would call the good path and I don't regret it for a second.
Jesus her voice. God damn it that voice is so sweet and soft.😮😮😮

I love that Lae'zel and Shadowheart hate each other so much, while actually being perfect mirrors of each other.
They are both deeply indoctrinated and blindly follow a belief that ultimately betrays them,
they both believe they are destined to a certain role or position, while learning they are just tools and it's not about them being special at all,
and they ultimately have to overcome the fact that their whole world view and everything that motivated them is taken away,
and ultimately even hunts them down and attacks them. There are so many parallels in the stories of these two characters!
Man how can a person be so talented and wholesome at the same time. Best cast ever.
OMG just hear her voice and I'm love. How could this be? Shadowheart was love at first sight for me 😍
Jen has a pretty gorgeous voice. Coupled with SH's story she is my favourite character in the game. Well done you guys :)
Dan youre such a good interviewer, I loved this!
Jennifer really did a fantastic performance with Shart, instantly fell in love with her character.
I love these interviews, great job! 😺
She's so lovely, and I Love her voice.
Man I could hear her voice for hours, such a beautiful voice, can't wait to see more of her work
