Massey Ferguson 550 tractor, will it start and drive?

I’ve wanted to buy a little Massey Ferguson tractor for a while now and a couple of weeks ago I finally found one that I thought would suit me for road runs and ploughing matches etc.

Like the 500 series spent many thousands of hours in them an cab was a nice place to spend the day👍. Depending on how bad the rust worm has got to it my thing is originality but if it needs a lot of patching then probably will need a paint job☹️ think you got yourself a good little tractor there 👌

Keep body work original it's part of it history full of character battle scars nd all full mechanical restoration so you can knock a good bit of fun out of it keep them coming

i like the 550 i would keep it how it is some t cut on the red to see what it comes up like or a wipe over with a oily rag

You got a tidy little tractor there, I like the 500 series, would love to have one myself one day, I would say keep as original as you can, it's in really good nick sounds like the engine is pretty good too, overall a great little tractor, look forward to more vids 👍

I used to have a 135MP but I wanted a cab as I mainly used it for ploughing matches and it was often wet & cold. i should have bought a 550, but ended up with a 3070 and a 4F plough. I would go for a partial refurb.

Great stuff, this should be an interesting series. I used to own a 590 and it was a pain in the arse to bleed up when it ran out of fuel. Given it's known (to you) history and subject to budget and time I would restore it. No rush or panic and it's a solid enough example to make it a great tractor again.

Go steady in the hills... I rolled a 550 on a steep hill when I was 14.... the insurance bloke was amazed the old rusty cab stood up to the 3 rolls it took... saved my life!!

Keep her as she is, take cab off, clean her up, get a good secondhand door, good service, cab back on and she will last another 40 years
