This isn't really an era, and instead more of a collective thing, but it's that moment when a new game reaches its popularity peak and children infest it's community. Happened to Among Us, happened to Friday Night Funkin', and with Pizza Tower's popularity rising more and more, it's likely this will soon happen to it as well.
not exactly related to those games specifically but i'd call this the "forced horror/analog horror era" with stuff like poppy, the backrooms, and glaggleland, when retard children infested it and tried to turn it into "oooh scary analog horror OOH SCARY SCARY JUMPSCARE" and all that. i feel especially bad for the backrooms + glaggleland because those were just harmless wacky memes at first that were fun to look through, but now we got the 9 year old Kinemaster FlipAClip kids turning it into VHS horror and shit.
@@wigwagstudios2474The backrooms was always a fearmongering thing, I have been a member of that community since 2020. It was never funny memes. No, the memes came with the children, the backrooms used to be a few images of liminal spaces depicting empty, nostalgic places from the early 2000s. The backrooms was not ruined by children making it as you described. It was ruined because it became much too popular, with the introduction of “levels” and the absurd amount of enemies, along with the whole fucking thing being explained in detail, removing the mysterious vibe.

There were some good memes in there like the nutshack, spongegar, and some I forgotten about but then you got these terrible forced memes like dat boi, damn Daniel, durr plant which was a jab at those types of memes which somehow got popular, and those types of forced memes plagued the internet up into 2018 or 2019 at most
An era I was confused you didn't cover was "The Cancellation Era" (2019-present). It explains itself, but basically people would make fake accusations about people they don't like or find "cringy". Examples of victims from this era were JellyBean (falsely accused of racism because PNGtuber), ChippleDipple (accused of grooming, revenge porn, and targeted harrasment because of his edgy humor), Sinder (because of her...of questionable quality CPR metal cover), Kwite (because he didn't like his ex's overly sexual behavior towards him), and Revie (falsely accused of grooming because she burnt someone's house in Minecraft). [Edited this comment to add suggestions from replies! Thank you guys!]
I think it’s because that era hasn’t ended yet. Plus cancellation isn’t really an “era”. It was just something that got super popular to do but fizzled out really quickly. The only people getting “canceled” anymore are people who are behaving intentionally provocative, and half the time they’re seeking that attention out themselves because it’s profitable (modern “comedians” using edgy humor to get people to complain about and advertise their work are good examples of this) There are still cases like Kwite where people are falsely accused but that’s been happening forever. It’s not exclusive to cancel culture.

the WorldStar era reminds me of an episode of the boondocks about the racist sentiment proposed by the fight videos. the show called these fights "n-word moments". I got to witness one in-person at a fair. it was actually quite sad (no one got hurt tho). me friend and I were standing in line for food for over two hours. there was this friendly black man in front of us who would occasionally talk to us during the two hours. when we got to the front, this teenager cut in front of the guy and he was like "hey, get to the back of the line." the teen started to argue with the man and then the teen's mom came over and threatened to fight the guy. this guy didn't back down. it escalated to the point of security having to break it up (thankfully they did so in a non-violent way) and the man who waited for over 2 hours was told to leave with his son (but the teen and his family stayed). no punches were thrown fortunately and the man got his food, but it just made me very sad and angry that someone who stood up to some asshole kid was asked to leave.
You forgot about Elsa gate… the less said, the better There’s also the drama era where everyone was at each others throats every day. The extremely political era (apparently still in it and was here since before some of us were born) where every part of the political spectrum was at each others throats, acting like programmed robots, and displaying the most close minded mentality I’ve ever seen. Even accusing movies of propaganda like it’s the red scare again And I guess the let’s play/gaming era (wasn’t very bad except for some mini lads and lion makers). Minecraft was especially popular with whole song parodies. Now that part of the internet (mainly yt) just isn’t as popular. As someone who's been studying history, anthropology and stuff like that, i think you are really underestimating the effect the matrix era (or alpha male era, as i prefer to call it) is going to have in the future. The era is actually still going, and at full speed, and young men are terribly powerful in shaping civilization.
@@christianhernandez1539 …is what they try to do. Instead, man, by his nature, is prone to receiving only what they want to hear, for better or for worse. They choose which advice to follow and which to disregard - it’s simply how we function. Sadly, most “redpillers” are just bluepilled misogynists receiving what they want to hear - women bad, men are ALWAYS faultless. Btw, i don’t like when it’s hard to tell the difference between if someone is joking or genuinely believes what they say. Tate is not a comedian - if he was, he’d be a horrible comedian whose jokes always land like aa 11 (keep in mind the pilots were male). Tate is just another clout chaser, that’s it.
@@J3D1D14H Before the matrix era I did take the supposed redpill bro and not gonna lie what they tell you is true when it comes to woman advice but it does make you believe all woman are like that which is the down side to all that because it changes your perception about woman but I truly do believe that tate has done better overall than worse for men. And yes I get what your talking when it comes to jokes and clout.
@@christianhernandez1539 that’s because he gives other more reasonable opinions about other topics. E.g. “go gym” i think has actually been proven by studies to be effective in raising mental health. The antidepressants are not as effective as your body naturally receiving more of the happy chemical and your therapist actually doing their job. I can kinda see where his sparkling water rant and owning a sword rant would be a joke (except they’re horrible) but you can tell what he genuinely believes by listening to the tone of his voice and looking at his body gestures. He does have a wholesome side. He has a good relationship with his brother and actually has a personality unlike those who copy him. Hopefully he shows that side more - he failed to do so after his initial claim that he converted to islam. Sorry for the super long reply.
I thought I forgot about the Musiclly Era until the sheer mention of it brought back Vietnam flashbacks of the amount of cringe it was. I also remember growing up through the Vine Era, World Star Era, and even the McJuggerNuggets era very vividly
It went from punchlines to pron to horror and now we don’t get any actual humor we just get 20 seconds of sensory overload and then it ends in a way that loops.
i think it’s important to note that through all of these eras there were still equally huge communities doing great things for the culture and the people, a lot of which overshadowed the worst of these eras
Yeah, like how in recent years we’ve had horrible politics, modern plagues, and wars, but we’re still socially improving on how we treat people who are different than us.
A few more I’d add: The Atheism Era: 2008-2013 when people would basically have dick measuring contests about how much they hated religion. Ended when that guy made the “euphoric” post on Reddit and people finally started laughing at them The Facebook Activism Era: 2009-2012 felt like every other week people were changing their profile pictures to support some cause they’d never heard of before that week. Kony2012 was a good wake up call to those people
Y'all remember when they released air pods and an iPhone back in the flexing era in middle school . A lot of the kids were buying them to make themselves look cool and basically flexing, but in reality, they're just using their parents' money
The tik tok dance era is rhe reason i still refis to ever use the app. The way they forced the app down our throats by having it show up on every single UA-cam ad has scarred me for life and to this day no matter how many changes tiktok goes through its always gonna remain me of that time.
the 2016 edgy era is responsible for some of the worst ppl I have met. I did like Idubzzz and his content cop series (calling ppl slurs was what I really didn't like) bc he was able to make comedy out of calling out ppl for their BS. it didn't age well ofc, but I have fond memories of that series and ONLY that series.
I remember that you will get demolished back in 2016 all because you didn't like IDubzzz' content And I felt like I was the only person in the entire world that didn't like his content
I do miss the whole 2016 Idubbbz/LeafyIsHere shtick outta nostalgia but I'm genuinely questioning myself as to what the fuck I was watching 😂😭 life's a trip
I know this may not be an era but to me the Vine era was a hidden gem among the internet. At least that one was full of comedic people trying their best to make people laugh and have a better day. Vine was one of the better era's that is well, mostly forgotten by the masses.
The Vine era was an amazing time. People just being funny and it wasn't forced. I find more Vine's genuinely hilarious compared to TikToks. "HuHUH, bitch why you mad? Cause my pussy pops severely and yours don't?" That line is BRANDED into my brain.
One good thing about the Musically and Tik Tok era is introducing people to new music choices (Seeing the song ""Even Flow" resurge in popularity for example makes me happy in a way sure I wasn't an OG Pearl Jam fan I can very much admit that as I first heard them with said song in GH3 back in the Early-2010s but seeing new people liking a song that gave me nostalgia feels nice)
leafy gotta be the worst example of this, he created a whole generation of terrible commentary channels that add nothing new to youtube. ngl i still enjoy filthy franks, idubbbz, and max's old content, their fanbases are corny, and borderline annoying.
The worst thing to come out of Gucci Gang is all the oldheads of rap using it as an example of modern rap music and nothing else just to amplify their entitlement to their love for 90s rap
I like the fact that I lived through all of these eras and sailed left on most of them. I knew that NFTs and TikTok dances were stupid from the very beginning and held that to the very end even as my peers fell for them. I'll admit I did grow up watching a lot of UA-cam so I may have been somewhat influenced by these same communities but the videos that I remember watching were out of line from the synchronous insanity in this video and definitely more kid friendly which means I was on the good side of the internet. I do feel less traumatized and more level headed/satisfied with my experiences here.
Our senses of humor match up so perfectly. Don’t think I’ve ever watched another UA-cam video before where I was laughing for the whole 20 minutes. Keep it up this channel will do numbers.
During 1978, the man named William roe has been accused of four counts of homicidal acts against a family of four, the first victim was 12 years old, his bones were dislocated and cracked, next was the mother, which had her hanged by her own intestines, the next was 24, he was drugged so he could not control him self, so while being controlled he was screaming for help, the officers didn't know he was drugged so he was killed. It was the next victim that was the most gruesome.... he got a metal bat to his face, fell down a 31 stairs, snapping his neck, then he got a cleaver in his chest. That was the disturbing crime of 1978.
One era of the internet i don't see get brought up enough is what I like to call the Pop Teen era. Maybe it's because most people on the internet today are too young to remember or forgot, but there was a time, i wanna say between 2006-2012, where a lot of teenagers were becoming pop music sensations, usually Disney and Nickelodeon stars. Despite making inoffensive pop music and merely doing their jobs, the internet lunged at the throats of many of these kids, spawning all kinds of homophobic slurs, death threats and hit pieces like Death Battle did for Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black, heck i remember hearing accounts of these teens getting assaulted, all because... They were cringe? It's one thing to not like teen celebrities, it's another to make multiple memes about how much you want them dead. Unfortunately a part of this era lives on today, but not nearly as extreme as it was back then.
i think in general the internet used to be way more harsh on kids being "cringe" in the past. There was this mexican kid who made a minecraft rap around that era and got cyberbullied so bad, it's sad how much it affected him. maybe it's just my perception, but nowadays everytime i stumble across some video of a kid doing something "cringy" i see more people in the comments being nice or laughing *with* the kid. i feel like internet culture is finally realising kids doing embarassing stuff is normal and harmless and that following along is more fun than just hating.
I'd call the current era the "Ruin" era. There's a big saturation of low quality content, leftover dead trends, dramas are still continuing to pump, new insufferable groups and remains of previous unwanted groups.
Gen Z is truly an inspiring generation. Worshipping fake personalities and "Alpha" males, by Ruining words forever, doing TikTok, and Cancel celebrities for not having the same opinion as them. Truly one of the most influential eras in history. Even more than Greece, Egypt and etc..

I was in late middle school and high school during the World Star Era. It gets my vote for being the most insufferable era Let me tell you the amount of assemblies we had for kids randomly screaming "WORLD STAAAAAR" or "BOOONK GAAAAANG" in the hallway was the most annoying thing to live though. It wasn't just in the internet it seeped into real life
Talk Dirty to Me by Jason DeRulo was banned for kids screaming in the hallways I have no idea where they got this from bit there was a solid 2 month span where a posse of teens would just go in the hallways and just chant "AYYYYAAYYYAAYYEEE *clap clap clap*" just to get attention and be annoying The only thing that got them to stop was people actually started to tell them to shut up that werent the teachers All of this stemming from the World Star Era, with the overlap of the Jake Paul era seeping in Just screaming and doing anything possible to get attention even if everyone starts to hate you
Obviously the worst era out of all of these was the edgy era, like bruh it felt normal to just scream the N word on game chats, while being whiter than a chicken.

@@wigwagstudios2474 I'd group the forced horror with the hornybait too, since they're both common techniques to lure in children for easy views

@@yt.person_9629 2020 even
It tecnically started since a little after gamergate and people realized how much you can fuck someone's image if the average person doesn't like them
I think it’s because that era hasn’t ended yet. Plus cancellation isn’t really an “era”. It was just something that got super popular to do but fizzled out really quickly. The only people getting “canceled” anymore are people who are behaving intentionally provocative, and half the time they’re seeking that attention out themselves because it’s profitable (modern “comedians” using edgy humor to get people to complain about and advertise their work are good examples of this)
There are still cases like Kwite where people are falsely accused but that’s been happening forever.

Examples Benadryl challenge, devious lick, etc.
True I believe 2016 was a reboot year
I wonder how would that effect the internet now especially if the us tiktok ban goes through note that the majority of tiktok users are from the states
One of the craziest eras in the internet history was the “MLG Era” from like 2012-2015 Where every single gaming video were filled with Rage Comic Faces and those Meme Sound Effects and it was so popularized by games like Call of Duty, Minecraft and GTA Where kids were yelling the N-Word
What a disgusting, trash era.
the tate shit is the most genuinely concerning to me. i know personally way too many people, from young adults to young teens, who idolize him. all i can say is there's gonna be a lot of poor, lonely, bitter 30 somethings in a few years. i mean, i guess they make dating easier too. people know exactly what to avoid!
In a few? if you're talking about teens then it'd be 13-17 yrs before any of them reach 30s ☠☠
The NFT/Crypto Bros era actually pissed me off because we would have Voice Actors, respected celebrities, etc. investing and promoting what is essentially a scam.
That would cause me to have sleepless nights
NFTs = scam. crypto = not scam.
@@ZynthWaves Idk man, crypto just rubs me the wrong way
@@ZynthWaves crypto had hella potential
@@frozenuruguayball6436 it still does?
tbh the 'matrix' era is actually insane because i've literally never seen andrew tate or any1 else actually post anything themselves, just mountains of reposts
i dont think andrew tate rlly wanted it to be like this
It made me so unbelievably happy when Boonk tried to rob a barber but they locked the door the moment he came in cause they recognized him
Lmao that sounds hilarious
The Instagram clout era has single-handedly ruined the rap/hip hop genre
What are you talking about. Listen to more artists then if you think rap is dead
@@antiarezzo7630 he did not say it is dead lol
No that was SoundCloud
@@LovelyBettaFish-11 i guess if its not dead, it’s thriving even if polluted by nuclear radiation
Are you fr, there was so many bangers from that era
I if I had a Time Machine I would go back to 2006-2017 and live that life again. who will come with me to this Nostalgia Adventure!!!
I'll bring the snacks 🍣🍤🍡🍝🧃
Nostalgia bias
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I will! :D

4:59 Bro really said these 'things' 😂😂😂
I just found your channel while at work, and holy sheeeet you’re hilarious bro. Love all the memes and subtle brain rot you toss in there. You sir have earned a new sub ❤
honestly, these eras genuinely pain me looking back, but they were all so fun in the moment. except for the whole hype house thing that shit was horrible. i remember at school, once you heard “WORLDSTARRRRR”, it was like an instinct to follow the sound
2017 was just a wild time in humanity.
Edit: 2016 was elite
Ok but idk who’ll see, but can we appreciate that Boonk was able to turn his life around despite his previous shitty image
Not enough people will shine a light on that. Negative coverage is more popular than positive.
i attribute middle school being the worst social experience of my life to the clout era of the internet and the effect it had on half concious kids.
Anytime tommy posts it makes my day better
eras on the internet goes from hella bad to heavenly fire
12:48 gotta be the funniest shit
20:25 bro finally, I’ve been waiting for you here in the timed comments. 🙂
The Edge Era of UA-cam is probably is the most worst era of the internet… 💀
Best Era
I think Matrix Era is already worse
@@Bighomie39 same
idk some of the youtubers in there actually made some funny jokes
its only being potrayed as “edgy” and “bad” cause the snowflakes got offended over it.
id say the tiktok dance era takes the cake for worst.
Fr people like to act like it was a good era but it raised a generation of kids who thought dropping slurs was hilarious, which is isn’t.
3:30 Tell me she didn't just say that! 😳
Yes I hear it way clearer than glass

Hearing the word gucci gang just broughr back so many memories of being in fortnite lobbies and hearing that over and over and over
If you showed someone an old mr beast video to someone and told them that it was Mr beast they would not believe you
1:41 is no one gonna talk about the guy on the left☠️ bro looks like an off brand superhero "malnutrition man"
I was in late middle school and high school during the World Star Era. It gets my vote for being the most insufferable era
Let me tell you the amount of assemblies we had for kids randomly screaming "WORLD STAAAAAR" or "BOOONK GAAAAANG" in the hallway was the most annoying thing to live though. It wasn't just in the internet it seeped into real life
I was done with teenagers at 15 years old and I was one
Talk Dirty to Me by Jason DeRulo was banned for kids screaming in the hallways
I have no idea where they got this from bit there was a solid 2 month span where a posse of teens would just go in the hallways and just chant "AYYYYAAYYYAAYYEEE *clap clap clap*" just to get attention and be annoying
The only thing that got them to stop was people actually started to tell them to shut up that werent the teachers
All of this stemming from the World Star Era, with the overlap of the Jake Paul era seeping in
Just screaming and doing anything possible to get attention even if everyone starts to hate you
@@MidnightUmbraWow then how old are you now?
@@TrIIden 22 unfortunately
@@MidnightUmbraOh i thought you were in your 30s.
This video is funny af....but it's 100% correct- great editing 👌
Obviously the worst era out of all of these was the edgy era, like bruh it felt normal to just scream the N word on game chats, while being whiter than a chicken.
Agreed, like holy fuck…
You forgot one era, the Cancel Culture era which we’re still in. You can’t say Jack-Shit without getting cancelled
literally you mistake a trans person's gender because their pronounce are "xe/xem" and then your entire life is gone somehow
You should be canceled - you making this comment is offensive to dead people.
im at risk of having my account being taken down because youtube thinks im a "danger to the community". All i do is occasionally call someone a fucking idiot if they say something dumb.
sorry but im FRAGRANTLY offended by the fact that you used the word "forgot". That word goes deep into my family history of not good stuff, which i never told you about, but you should have known because you have to respect me. By the way, call me by my 70 pronouns, I go by all of them. (preference for xix/diw) So yeah expect about all of twitter coming after your ass for this comment.
@@Hat-Kid oh no! oh no! *bruh im the biggest* BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR *metal pipe sfx* *penis music*
don't know if I should be happy or sad that I recognized it, but the guy with the flame thrower at 18:27 is Kentucky Ballistics, a decently big gun channel who does a lot of cool stuff.
Why would you be sad? He's great.
Gonna be real with you man. Awesome vid as always but that fro is so perfect I'm still convinced it's fake. That shit too clean
Edge era may be cringe but at the very least it was fun and boundary pushing. That's more I can say about now on the internet.
You get the spirit, yes
Why do yall always swear by the dumpster fire that was that era, it always smells of the most putrid cope when i see it.
Like highkey the current state of youtube is so much better than the low effort edgy bait from back then, feels like the content has only improved nowadays in quality and people have gotten better at making it.
@@mahzo7885 Low effort garbo definitely was an issue for sure. And i agree that the production value of vids have gone up as a whole.
Nonetheless i preferred watching creators during that time cause they were free to say and do as they pleased. Even if they weren't edgy, they could still speak their mind with a curse word or 2. Sometimes that freedom would lead to something super fun to watch, others not so much.
Say cringe now is a edgy argument, just because a kid is having fun and its have a 31 years old super mature man: THIS IS CRINGE GUYS, MY FANBASE EDGY OF KIDS WITH 10 YEARS OLD WILL NOT ATTACK THIS KID
@@SkinwalkerTX I feel like that’s more UA-cam as a whole because they are a lot more advertising friendly and cause MNC’s are the dumbest they think any slight leaning into edgy like a swear word or two is bad. In reality I still feel like most creators can say their mind and yes maybe pcness means that people are safer with their general language but usually it’s only going to be beneficial as was pointed out even tho 2016 era was funny and seemed pretty free in reality a lot of people were just trying to make attention grabbing reaction baiting content and so while the content was funny it was definitely cringey and excessive in how edgy most of it tried to be for the sake of being edgy instead of for pure comedy and developing the video
7:55 just hit me like a fucking truck dude. I forgot all about musically and then you just dropped that.
