I returned the xtreme 4 because yes at lower to mid volume the bass is pretty epic but once you want to use that thing above 70%-100% the bass, even when you add more in the EQ is not there at all compared to the actual volume it's producing. I have 2 stage 320s for extra large portable bass monsters but for the xtreme 4/ bose max footprint, seems like the word on the street is the Max is the better buy, even tho bass heads are used to jbl being the go to. Xtreme 4 was a total let down for me.

Yeah that’s what you get when making the same speaker 3 times JBL. The Bose Max easily outclasses the JBL with a much more appealing sound. The Xtreme 4 has really no sauce, not a single redeeming quality other than “it’s okay” It lacks bass and mids and treble aren’t anything special either. Bose absolutely destroys them here.

I would personally rather get a JBL boombox 3 over the Bose max.
But You lose portability. It's always depends needs of every person.

I placed an order for the bose soundlink max, for me it was the sound quality that is told to be good.
Will change for a jbl if this proves untrue.
