6 Stupid Features I HATE On My 2021 Ford F150!

- 6 months and 10K miles in my 2021 Ford F150 has been good and bad.. In todays video we cover 6 things I've grown to hate in this truck!
The new generation F150 has a new feature called cylinder deactivation and it's in my opinion not something that is needed at all as it does not provide better fuel economy. This is only one of the things we mention in todays upload. This video is also a bit of an owners review as these annoying features has been something that has showed itself over time, I hope you enjoy the video!

My 2016 was haunted with electrical issues, every time i took it to the dealer it wouldn't show up on a scan because it didn't act up all the time, hated that truck. And the sound quality isn't the issue, it's build quality. To many loose panels
Ford quality and reliability has dramatically tanked.
When you lifted it you have to recalibrate you collision system. Happens on all trucks. With it.
Lifting is stupid
I lifted my 2014 Silverado and was over it a week later now I get much worse mpg on highway and I don’t drive above 67mph because of this
#1 is a safety feature--trying to prevent accidental remote starts, particularly when your fob is in you pocket or purse or whatever. They want to make sure there's a deliberate act by the operator and not some random electrical contact glitch in the button(s).
That doesn't make sense. Most cars will shut off the remote start after 15 minutes and limits the amount of remote starts you can activate in between starting the car normally
@@mikerzisu9508 no it does make sense.
in fact they should make you verbally say to the fob yes start my truck, and if you swear at it nothing will happen except it says back " thats not a nice thing to say ! "
In my 7 years of having vehicles with remote start, not once has it started automatically.
@@AaronEmerald guess the safety features worked….
One definite improvement on yours compared to my 2018 is that you can run the built-in Nav map as well as CarPlay features. On mine you cannot do that, you have to live with all CarPlay or nothing. Super annoying.
Hi Mike, my tech advisor keeps telling me that cylinder deactivation is for compliance with stricter emissions standards. Just like auto-engine start/stop, variable displacement technology allows manufacturers to meet tighter emissions targets with their current ICE offerings. Ford must now use every trick in the book to satisfy the EPA, an agency that uses compliance with the Clean Air Act to err on the side of less pollution versus fuel economy. Next stop, our Electric Future.
a 6000 lb truck in compliance with the environment is a oxymoron : P
@@BIKEMAN21 i lol'd at this
I just purchased a 2021 f150 xlt, just completed a 3000 mile road trip. I found the cloth seats are probably the most uncomfortable seats I've ever had, plus when l tilt the steering wheel to a comfortable position it blocks the top row of gauges in the dash.and yes the audio system is really poor, having a button for the fuel door in the dash is absolutely a pain, the rest of the truck is pretty decent
On my current F150 2020 5.0, I get those collision alerts out of nowhere, as it started happening it was almost the same arear on my way to work on 96 westbound in Livonia Michigan.
I am a Ford guy but one think i hate about the new fords is the door chime
The systen you are talking about, makes worst consumption of gas, the reason is because when the system goes from 8 to 4 cyl, trying get "better" consumption, the only thing is happening is, at any bridge or any hills the truck need more power then goes back to 8cyl, just right there that transition means more gas, so, what I see in this kind of system is if you are running in flat, "works, but if the road has bridge or any little hill the gas consumption is really horrible, that's what I saw in that kind of system.
you can disengage the cylinder decativation by just pulling the wire attached to the car battery
AutoVlog Great Video I definitely agree that those problems with your 2021 F-150 Lariat Sport would be very annoying and I hope they can be fixed
Check out what happens when the heater control damper module goes out. 20 hours repair to replace a $20 part. The dash, seats and console has to be removed.
check that your fuses and relays are fully seated. Lots of people on the forum found they were not fully seated from factory. Also, you have warranty, take it in?
That 10 speed transmission is the issue, it's a joint cal with Ford and GM, and it sucks.... It's always hunting for the right gear ⚙... I think this should go back to the old 6 Speed transmission
For the abs problem its called warranty!!!
So true about fuel economy. Got a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires put on it and it added only 2 litres per 100 kms for me.
I had the same issue with my MKZ. I asked myself how a a person who might have joint issues with their hands do this. "Oh, click slowly, it is a key fob, not a mouse."
Your video popped up as I was randomly searching my subscriptions on screw tube (no censorship). I must have about 80 subscription channels. Thanks for pointing out those 6 issues you have with the new 2021 Ford F150.
Cylinder deactivation is for fuel mileage, mandated by the government. If youre complaining about that, you should have done your research first. I have. 2021 platinum ecoboost that has 400hp and 500 lb ft torque, and tows 14,000 pounds. Thats more than the 5.0
Check the battery ground my cousin had the same issue with that same truck last month
It's a plug on the negative battery cable unplug it and no more cylinder deactivation or auto start stop
I have that collision avoidance in my mk4 Focus ST annoys the life outta me and I had an SOS malfunction had to pull the fuse for 10 minutes
My 2018 F150 5.0 Crew Cab, I got 21mpg. My 2020 F150 5.0 Crew Cab, I am getting 16.5mpg. I ordered my 2022 F150 5.0 Crew Cab in Nov21, to be delivered Feb22, curious what that 5.0 gets for mpg...
Ford just needs to get better with their cylinder deactivation. GM’s DFM is great. Can’t ever tell it’s happening and it can engage/disengage cylinders one at a time instead of just in banks of 4. AFM wasn’t so great and did have the oil burning issues. DFM is great.
They should get rid of all cylinder deactivation.
@@skoolynugenator1802 why? When done properly, it works great. People just like to crap on it when they don’t understand it.
Super cars have been using cylinder deactivation for years. Ford just needs to get their crap together. Like I said, GM’s DFM is great.
The collision warning could be from your decal letters on your windshield. Is it possible that they’re covering the sensor slightly?
The stereo is fine, it's the truck, ford did not make the truck tight, and seal it good enough, the stereo is to good for the F150...gotta remember it's a F150...
I sell them for a living some folks act as if it's supposed be luxury car, half the people that buy them don't tow or even use them like a truck.
What axle ratio in the new compared to the old ? I have the same truck and ordered my 2018 with 3.55 . Then when i ordered my 2021 5.0L 4x4 as the 2018 but got 3.75 gears on the 2021 and i love the the acceleration ont he new but gas mileage is by far worse.
Any idea how much weight you have added with your lift kit & all other accessories? I know in the winter I put 3 -50 lb sand bags in the box & notice the difference in mpg.
I think perhaps the audio quality issue is just a one in a million issue with yours you should have checked out. I've never had any issues with it, neither has any of the ones ive been in otherwise
Laughs in minimal technology 2007 Toyota fj cruiser with appreciating value approaching that 2021 Ford.
My 2015 F-150 wipers come on automatically when switch is off!
The abs malfunction is because of the lift, if you are going to modify a vehicle, expect to act shitty
Had my 21 for 5 months, 7500 miles. I am pretty disappointed in it. It feels cheap and they are most definately not priced cheap. The back up camera is Walmart quality at best. When I drive my accord it looks like a high def TV in comparison.
The backup camera gets used 0.005% of the time you spend in a vehicle. Any other complaints?
@Kevin R. nope, traded for a new Ram 1500. More truck. Same price
The warning signs on ford cars are irritating. The notification on the dash is more then enough. Every time you start the car you get the warning beeps straight at you. My boss usses mykey so i don't drive to fast, but that even starts beeping at me. Why?
You do know that the oil change indicator is just an estimate based on your driving pattern and conditions.
It necessarily does not measure the quality and the level of the oil in your engine.
So it will hard to tell cylinder deactivation is causing that. Just saying!!
Maybe need to update your map nav system ...end do a ecu scan for any error
The old truck was a supercab and now u have a supercrew so it’s not exactly apples to apples
My 2021 sync disconnects from my android phone and reconnects about a minute later. So annoying.
My 21 f150, remote start works every time no matter the speed
What was the rear end in your 15 f150 ? Because you have the 3.73 in this new one and that is gunna get you the worst mileage vs 3.55 or the 3.31 would get you better mpg
Mike if you want fuel economy, set your Cruise control at 60.
I had something similar years ago and it ended up being the brake light switch underneath the pedal was faulty and the vehicle sensed the brakes being applied but the switch not changing state so it would give you an error message
Never had an issue with my remote start
Have you got the recent software update? I wonder if that will help with some of the electronic bugs you are having?
Yea the ford owner site and see if any updates are out.
Okay but don’t forget you got the crewcab as your olde 5.0 truck and now you got the super crew cab so basicly it ways more duh
The nightmares when you’re getting chased and trying to get in your car has now gotten worse, can’t even remote start it fast enough #dedindream
18 mpg, yikes.
Would you go for the Lightning do you think?
Mike get sound absorbing mats added by the speakers
Nice video. I don’t know if you can complain about fuel economy going 85mph on a lift 😂
6 stupid things I hate about watching his video..
Haha same thought here. I also think that the EPA tests aren’t done at 85MPH (guessing though) and the faster the box goes, the more energy it needs.
Believe me, I hate the EPA numbers. Criminal that they’re allowed to claim what they do.
#6. Had a very similar problem on my 2018 model. I had it in and out of the dealership probably ten times over six months and they couldn't figure it out. I found the problem myself. There's a cruise control module located in your bumper that acts like a radar. It has to be exactly level. Being as you installed the lift kit on your truck you probably need to have it adjusted. It's supposed to be done on a rack but you could probably do it yourself. It's like aiming a headlight
Both annoying and fascinating to hear. I fear that cars and trucks will one day become so complex that we'll go into a coma trying to read the owner's manuals.
Break in period. Gears are shorter even in OD. When you’re driving 85 you’re gonna go thru more fuel because the EPA Rates a vehicle around 60 mph. Stop flying around at 85 😂
was gonna say ... just 3 mph faster and boom 88 mph ! would of sent him back to the future
I was aware they tested at 55mph, but either way, it makes sense that the further above 55 or 60 you go, it spends more fuel.
@@dreadnoughtprime6301 The Energy Saving Trust says that the most efficient speed you can travel in a car in terms of achieving the best fuel economy is 55-65mph. Any faster, though, and the fuel efficiency decreases rapidly. For example, driving at 85mph uses 40% more fuel than at 70mph
@@BIKEMAN21 I wasn't aware of the exact nbers, but that's what I should have cited.
@@dreadnoughtprime6301 aerodynamic drag increases exponentially the faster you move
The collision thing is most likely do to the fact that you lifted the truck the safety systems are calibrated for the truck to be at a certain height
TC Customs did the lift and I can assure you they re-calibrated the cameras
@@blakedudley4692 Yeah BUT!!! mmmmmright makes you wonder still
@@blakedudley4692 well they messed up that re-calibration then
I have the same truck that’s not lifted and I turned off the pre collision because it was so bad
@@christopherpaiva1893 yeah I think some of the programming got fucked up in some F150’s.
Lmao. I thought you are more a rock music guy. Imagine the laughter when you played Barbie girl. 🤣🤣
If the new truck has a more aggressive rear gear than the old truck it would explain the worse fuel economy (3.73s vs 3.55s for example)
EXACTLY!!! someone gets it!!!
It's a video to make money off of by posting vids about a truck he bought as a write off for the channel. The more people comment the more attention the vid gets.
The old truck was a 6 speed i believe also , so different gearing then a 10spd
@@chris-terfer yes that would be the point of every video on youtube.
What was his old trucks gearing
Do you need to have the collision system reconfigured after being lifted? My radar got moved barely at all and it won't work anymore without calibration
Has nothing to do with it being lifted, this is happening recently. Truck has been lifted for 6 months and never an issue
You should have kept the old truck.. sell it and buy an old one again 👍🏼😉 .. and 4 cylinder deactivation should be a choice you can make by the press of a bottom and not something you are forced to drive with .. why then buy a V8 to begin with?
damn what a piece of shit ... good to know. buyer beware @#$% Ford
Great video! 🙌🏻

Ok ok calm down town and country, he'll only be on here till October then has to get a real job 🤣🤣
Hey town get off his mushroom already
@@jedmassey what you mean?
Maybe that's something at TC Customs you could do is add sound absorbing mats around the speakers to get rid of that
I remember when this dude thought his truck was only lifted 21 f150 when he got it
Number 3 is definitely the build quality of the truck, the speaker brand doesn't have anything to do with vibrations on door panels, its just not built well
Not insulated properly. Half ass design from Ford, playing off the B&O name.
I think deadening sheets will improve the issue
At the end of the day, it's still a Ford pickup. In comparison to his C63, that car was the same price, if not more expensive, while being a smaller car. And both are being built to a price point. In the end, it's a premium car vs an everyday Joe's full-size truck, or quality vs quantity.
what a stupid complaint. Mike expects a FORD TRUCK to have the same build quality as an Audi or MB??? I'd say he was ignorant but he's owned several of the absolute best Benz models. C'mon, man.
I agree with emdec55. Ford just wraps their cheap truck in leather and other nice materials to make it SEEM a little nicer. Underneath it all, it's still a Ford truck. If Ford built their trucks to the same level as Mercedes, their trucks would cost $150,000+.
Bought mine May 26th. Currently have 11,532.9 miles on my Lariat. I’m loving it so far. Keep the videos coming man!
Whats your review on it ,please i am planning on buying one by the begging of the year .thk u .
Vibrations?..I think the build quality of the truck isn't good enough to handle the powerful stereo system.
I was thinking the same thing, its just not built well. Same on my focus, the sound system makes all my doors rattle.
Exactly 🍻
I have the same truck. Zero vibrations/rattles when the B&O system is cranked up.
@@reidgrandchamp774 you got a good one then! But common on, a ford truck is not very well put together
@@evaristocorripio5434 Just not true
With the fuel mileage remember your last truck was a extended cab and your current truck is a crew cab. I would think that the new truck is heavier if you compare them both in stock format. Keep the videos coming!
Was going to say the same thing. Plus this truck is a loaded Lariat with all kinds of features, the last one was an XLT. Few hundred pounds lighter
If you're driving 85 mph you're not REALLY concerned about your mpg's. I'm surprised the cylinder deactivation ever kicks in at that speed unless the truck is traveling downhill.
Nothing get good mileage going that fast. But the point I’m trying to make is the extended cab could be lighter. But he did say “kinda petty”. 1or 2 mpg difference.
@@adamtoman5855 I agree with what you said.
Looks like bigger tires too. That’ll definitely affect it
If you didn’t do a speedometer calibration after going with bigger tires then your mpg might be slightly better than what your computer shows. Learned that with my hybrid tundra haha
Hybrid tundra ?
This!! A lot of people don’t ever think of getting their speedometers calibrated when lifting or installing bigger tires
even without cylinder deactivation my 2017 3.5 V6 with the 6 speed will bog down if you are too gentle on the gas, annoying as shit. sometimes i have to put it in sport mode to mitigate this.
So where did you get the Hybrid Tundra from? I own nothing but Toyota’s and there is no Hybrid Tundra…
@@Tatorvision welcome to the fake news, misinformattion revolution
I'm a technitian at ford,we had the oil consumption issue on the previous 5.0 .Ford actually says in the workshop manual that they allow 1 qrt of oil consumption per 3000 miles. I would never go by the dash. If your towing or driving it hard that could b more. So basically I've seen trucks 3 to 3 and 1/2 qrts low. The ecoboost does the same thing. I've had them come in with a phaser rattle and come to find out it was low on oil because they waited for the oil life on the dash to tell them to change it
Oil is cheap engines are not change your oil every 3 to 5 k religiously
Sounds like when my 06 Impala goes into overdrive😂
I have the B&O Unleashed and it's the best factory system I've had. Hands down better than the other option you get on the F-150 and worth every penny.
He's to spoiled to complain about stuff like this cause he had and f12 r8 c63s which are prob good quality for the price and plus him complain about the 2015 xlt that he had there was no b&o or sony u can get in an xlt so the stero is on ford which I get sucks guys to spoiled
Since you don’t like your truck anymore you should let me have it, I don’t have a problem with those small things 😏
Welllllll, what I’ve always done is upgrade the speakers and have an amp installed inc base unit. I have a 17 Toyota Tundra. In the old days I’d order a vehicle without a stereo or AM radio and upgrade it all.
Is the axle gear ratio the same in both trucks? If not, that would make a difference in mileage.
That was my thought as well. The 5.0 can be had I think at 3.31 and 3.73. Big difference there.
Hows that work? Is a higher or lower gear ratio better for mileage?
@@atl3630 lower
The lower the gearing the better the mpg that’s why most off-road vehicles have gearing in the 4’s
@@willy0301 lower numerically. A "lower gear" is higher numerically.
It’s like all the things he’s complaining about wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t mod the damn truck
I know that with all these new cars and there new sensors they have, they get un calibrated if you lift your vehicle. There all set for a stock ride hight, you might be able to go to for and have them recalibrate it for your trucks height.
I have a 2014 F-150 Platinum and the remote start does the exact same thing. Love your videos.
ABS and GAS is the lift and tires.... Go to Ford and see if they can recalibrate the system to read the highth differance and so... Yes it is a bummer on a brand new truck. Tomorrow I'm buying the 2021 with 3.5 EcoBoost... I hope I'm not screwing up getting it!! As for the B&O system I refused it, I have all of my Memphis belle stuff added which will rock that baby nicely.. Good luck and thanks for all your video's guy..
I have a XLT crew cab v8 and just went on a 2,000 mile trip at average speeds of 75 and everything is still stock. I got 23.5 mile per gallon.
I've got a 2000 F150 with a 302 5.0 V8 with 150,000 original miles..I'd put my truck against ANY New F150 for power... reliability...
towing...gas mileage..(23 city..32 hiway)
AND Quality..I have NO RATTLES...NO ROAD NOISE..NO STUPID GADGETS
I’ve got a 2021 powerboost Lariat and I’m getting 24 miles to the gallon. Love your truck!
I've got a 2021 King Ranch with the 3.5L EB and 3.55 rear, FX4 and I still get 22 on shorter trips...then again, I don't do 85 either....
My 2018 f150 3.5 eco I have gotten as high as 25 mpg on long trips. Usually get around 20-23 but if I'm actually going for milage it can do better.
Yeah, the B&O systems haven't been really tuned for Ford's vehicles, people have had the same complaints in the Ranger. Its like B&O got bought out, like many others, and just after had formed the partnership with Ford. People seem to have no issues with the Harmon Kardon system in the upper tier Rams, and I hear the Fender system in the Nissan trucks sound good too.
I bet the door noises could be fixed with 50x50cm piece of dynamat. They just installed good speakers without any prep for more bass
When you pay 4k for bowers wilkins in Mercedes, you get pieces that have been designed to go together and fine tuned and tested by audiophile for hundreds if not thousands of hours.
Honestly the only rattle I do get from my B&O unleaded is when I have the rear sliding window all the way open. If I crack it shut by a touch it stops. I’m pleased with the system
@@Azerlazer26 I have the same rattle ... everything else about this truck is GREAT ... They guy is "not complaining", but really is ... there is a LOT of tech in these trucks and for me it all works as presented.
I wish that I’d bought a Ram. My f150 is going to be lemon lawed.
@Patrick Gabriel Ive owned seven brand new Rams including my current 2021 Big Horn crew and I loved everyone of them they are the best!!!!
Ugh finally!! A real review on how aqua sounds in a truck! Thank you!! 🤣🤣🙌 as a man with girls, this knowledge is precious 🙌🤙
im a barbie girl in a barbie world la la la best song : P
I owned a 2015 Silverado and rented a 2018 Ram, both had unique tells the cylinder deactivation was working. The Silverado's noise did not change but would shake when switching modes. Ram on the other hand had a noticeable sound difference on 4 cylinders like your F150 but was tolerable and couldn't hear it with the radio turned up a notch.
It’s not the stereo, it’s the cheap interior parts, cheaper and thinner plastics vs German. German cars also well sound dampened compared to American.
American or not, when you pay the same price for a vehicle that is physically twice the size, you gotta expect some cost cutting somewhere.
Mike check your windscreen and clean it where the sensors are located near the rear view mirror... for the collision warning prompt... the windscreen could be dirty around there with dirt or a bug stuck interfering with the sensor... same thing happened on my BMW... the auto headlights would be on during the day... once after i cleaned that area the headlights were working in normal fashion...
Speaking as a 35 year Auto Tech. You bought a New Truck!...they are not built right & you modified the lift on that Truck...Quality is NOT #1...ANYMORE
I really love your truck and your videos!
You've added weight, height, and larger gas tank, henceforth more oil possibly 10 speed uses more fuel injection super-size version super-size fuel and oil ❓🤨
Had a 2016 f150 with a 5.0 crew cab 6’6” bed. Got 23 mpg going to the beach from KY.
All trucks and cars put a sticker on their glass that says what mileage it gets. They get away with lying. It's like looking at the menu at the restaurant and the tv commercials. Shows the hamburger great big. You get a smashed flat bastard burger every time. Liars.
I’ve found 2 things on my 21 that are driving me crazy. First one is the horn beep that goes off if you get out of the truck when it’s running and you have the fob in your pocket. It happens literally when you get a foot away from the truck. The other one is that Ford can’t seem to figure out how to make a trailer plug/ trailer light module work with LED lights. All my trailers I tow have LED lights and they all give me an alert (chime) like your abs fault non stop when towing. They have changed the trailer light module, the trailer plug and I’ve tried probably 7 or 8 trailers now and they all give a fault of some sort. Sometimes it says trailer disconnected, sometimes check a certain turn lamp, sometime trailer light module fault and every time it does it all the lights are still working. Seems there is an adapter you can buy off Amazon but the point is Ford should know that folks are going to tow and should make a module that will function properly with both normal and LED trailer lights.
That horn "feature" is enough to make me not buy a F-150. It drove me crazy, especially at night, when I was trying to leave on a trip. My neighbors hated me. After a couple of 4am trips to the airport, I started looking at Rams.
My dad drove away without his keys once. He drove 2 hours away. Trust me, it's a good thing.

I have a 2020 Ford 150 XLT and it doesn't do that at all...
With respect to the fuel economy, what did your old truck get in its first 1000 miles? Although these modern vehicles don't have much of a break-in period, I have found my gas mileage got better after a few 1000 miles in comparison to brand new.

How do you feel like your paint protection wrap is holding up?
I have the same issue with my remote start! Drives me nuts my 2015 and my 2018 both work so much better like you said! I also got better mpg on my V8 2015!
Never an issue with mine. It takes 1.5 seconds to do the whole 1 and 2 click. Trying to spam it in .1 seconds and complaining when it doesn't work is indeed petty.
Why complain about the remote start in just use my phone to remote start as far as mileage goes my 2020 Ford 4x4 gets 23 on the highway with the V8 that’s going 70 with the cruise set all stock no modifications
Your forward collision warning errors are likely due to the lift kit... and may be related to the ABS error as well. That is not Ford's fault.
Assistance Technology needs to be adapted / aligned to the modifications. Owners fault, not Fords mistake
Grtz from Germany (2021 RAM owner)
This guy cry 😭 about everything on this nice truck 🛻 blah blah.. man grow some hair old man! 😂
cylinder deactivation is probably emissions regulations compliance, i bet same goes for engine stop start
the dealers better have options to deactivate all that crap or it would be a deal breaker for me
Thanks for the info.... Im sticking with my 2016 f150 king ranch..... all stock. Jijiji
MIKE- As others have said the sound system issue is a ford design problem, but HERE IS THE FIX. Get your truck dynamated. All the doors ( maybe they can do under the headliner too ? ) but that will take care of the vibrations and nonsense for a powerful system, in a subpar interior.
