Fantastic work on this! It's amazing to see the OG version of this song is about Odysseus and Poseidon and you've transformed Clae's cover into a full story. The latter is an artist who focuses her work on telling the stories of powerful women, so I really love how the heart of that still beats in your take on this song. Your story bible was a real treat to read, so thank you for sharing it! (tl;dr: It's just me gushing about this animation XD so good!!) The look on Mart's face is amazing. You can tell this is the moment he failed to understand the legend properly, that he thinks *this* is the moment where he was successful in his efforts to "control the sea". You can feel his desperation here to "win". The idea of control and victory plays bitterly brilliantly in discussions of women in abusive situations or assault of some nature often being victims of a man they once trusted or at least knew rather than a total stranger. I love that Tani backs away and looks at the knife in her chest. I think the only thing I'd note here is their proximity. It looks like he's just stabbed her but her single step back is already at a large distance. I'd suggest having Mart's hair move in the first few frames to suggest he's stepped back as well and to have Tani's braid have more movement to it to suggest the force knocking her further back. The two shot frame where they are both full-bodied is lovely 0:02. I love how the sky is blue and mostly clear on Mart's side and violet and cloudy on Tani's side. It suggests she's the storm and he's the calm. There's some really fun ways light gets played with in Nimora that subverts viewer expectations- allowing the bad guys to be adored in white and light which appeals to the narrative of the story being that people don't realize the good guys are the ones in the shadows. That same vibe get reflected here with Tani and Mart. One expects the "monster" to be Tani but she is really a woman who would've been Mart's victim if not for her own power. Something else to note, purple in New Zealand was the color of the Suffrage 125 logo and has a deep personal connection to women being granted the same political rights as men. I'm not sure if this was an intentional color theory choice on your part, but it really came out stunning. The fact the sky gets swallowed up by Tani's background color that's also reflected in the sea? It would've been so easy to just make it all blue, but you really went the extra mile here and it shows

i really like the video her emotions are so clear, story you posted on your site for this video is amazing, i am playing a DnD campaign set in an ocean world and she is perfect for it. my favorite part was the mistranslation of the legend of "pierce the heart" as its been passed down throughout generations, Its supposed to be the feeling when someone touches your heart through kindness. truly brilliant
I love the energy and the implied storytelling here. We see something in the middle of it happening, he's already stabbed this clearly non human woman. She's a bit taken aback by this mortal attacking her but likewise the human doesn't look triumphant, he seemingly knew this was not a fatal blow, or even something that bad. Both characters seem to react to this stabbing more like how one would react to being slapped across the face, painful and insulting. The man who stabbed her (slapped in this analogy) still angry and seeming to hope that this proved his point. For a moment it seems like it did, but then she speaks. Instantly the slight change in her facial expression mixed with the words she says and the tone she says them in brings one thing to mind. An angry parent. Not that I think their relationship is in any way like that, but the interaction is similar. A child lashing out at a parent who is stunned and hurt that they would do such a thing. Taking a moment to gather herself the "mother" simply tells the child "go...pick a switch" simply using her tone to demand that he comply with the punishment now, or she will make it much much worse. Instantly the man seems to see the gravity of his error and realizing he's only made her much much angrier now has to deal with her full unbridled rage. Phenomenal storytelling told almost entirely through body language and facial expressions.
Thank you 🙏❤ I'm currently trying to make a story with the final goal to animate it as a series ( I still don’t know if it’s feasable ). You can find a little more about it here 😊 www.artstation.com/artwork/aoKReX

As one who knows of the Taniwha, I like that this depiction is very creative about not only what they would look like, but also that its not a traditional monster. I loved looking through the process of your research and backstory! It was so cool to see you even did the anatomy study of the Taniwha
Thank you to took the time to read it ❤🙏
OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I’d get in the water so fast with that kind of power behind her voice.
0:32 It's so cool how the nails start to darken as she gets angrier!!! The little details like this really make this stand out ❤❤
Can’t count how many times I have watched this 😊 this is definitely the best video I’ve seen with this audio and I have seen a lot 😊
Thank you 🙏❤
I love the modern take on Māori myth!!❤ so amazing how you built her character, the designs are flawless!!!
Which myth is this? I'm VERY interested in reading up on it now. xD
@@93tnek taniwha are a Māori myth. They are giant reptilian monsters that guard the lakes and rivers of New Zealand. I there are a couple stories of interactions between taniwha and humans, though I’m not sure if this is an adaptation of those or a new story that has taken the concept of taniwha and turned the clock
Forward.
@@93tnek Taniwha are Māori myth. they are monster-like reptilian guardians of bodies of water. I don't know any specific stories, but there are definitely some out there.
@@93tnek It's not a specific myth, but it's more accurate to say that they are creatures that appear in a lot of our stories.
Our myths are already modern
Fantastic work on this! It's amazing to see the OG version of this song is about Odysseus and Poseidon and you've transformed Clae's cover into a full story. The latter is an artist who focuses her work on telling the stories of powerful women, so I really love how the heart of that still beats in your take on this song. Your story bible was a real treat to read, so thank you for sharing it!
(tl;dr: It's just me gushing about this animation XD so good!!)
The look on Mart's face is amazing.
It would've been so easy to just make it all blue, but you really went the extra mile here and it shows
Wow THANK YOU so much for such a comment !!! I liked discover your opinion and noted many pertinent observations about colors or animations suggestions. I'm so glad you saw all thoses details and so well done analysed them ( but I didn't know about the meaning of purple in NZ, that's one nice coincidence ! ).
Thank you to took the time to write all this and to read my graphic bible ! 🙏❤💪
they have names? is this from a series?
@@eliasraine8726 Check out the video’s description and it will tell you all about it ✨
I have watched this probs 1000 times by now, and it remains one of my favorite animations, the subtle details, the fingernails lengthening, the teeth growing, the slight scales on the shoulder/belly/cheek and forehead, its just TOP TIER, and I cannot wait to see you do more like this to other musicals, something like: Hold Them Down From EPIC
Thank you 🙏❤
I've probably watched this 20 times over now. The animation is so c l e a N. Mad respect
👉👈❤
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! its so GOOD!!! i've been waiting on pins and needles and its HERE its DONE!!! im in LOVE!

Holy Moly this looks amazing, gives me major Aotearoa vibes damnnn. The animations so smooth
DAAAAANG THAT LOOKED AMAZING!!! The movement, the expressions!
What I wouldn't give for a movie or show based on this. It looks like it would be incredible!
😊If you're interested, I'm currently trying to create a story ( with the objective to animate it one day as a series ) you can find a little more about it right here : www.artstation.com/artwork/aoKReX
@@cam-art I read that! It seems like it world be really interesting. Also, I watched this animation and was like, "Huh, this reminds me of French anime-inspired animation, kinda has Wakfu vibes" when I watched it first time around. Then I saw you'd been an animator on Wakfu, and it all made sense xD
@@hinkyto2550 😁🙏❤
Yeah, I was so excited for the finished animation and it's so much better than I expected!
Wakfu’s art style!!!!!?!? 🤩🤩🤩
Yep ! ✌😄
This is now my absolute favorite animation. You've not only introduced me to a new creature to research and explore, but also a fantastic work to match one of my favorite covers. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much 🙏❤
This is truly exceptional work. I’ve seen so many Epic animatics & this one is animated movie level quality. I can’t explain how impressed I am by this
Thank you 🙏❤
I love EVERYTHING about this. Need a whole series\movie of this!
Thanks ❤Actually I loved so much work on this short, now I would like to make an animated series ! Here a little more about the project if you're curious 😊: www.artstation.com/artwork/aoKReX
I love her clothing! It feeks true to traditional Maori attire, beautiful rentition
Thank you so, so much 🙏❤

The way I clicked on this faster than my dad left for milk LMAO

I not only watched through this and the rough animation multiple times, but I also looked through the graphic bible you linked and OMG this is genuinely so impressive and inspiring! The concept is so cool and the way you organized and presented everything Is so well done! Absolutely phenomenal job! I can not wait to see more of you work on this channel!
Thank you so much to took the time to read it ! ☺❤🙏
Finally! A female who is a epic animal thingy
Is this your first time online or encountering fantasy for that matter
Seems like it@@blackhand441
@@blackhand441 I was going to say... Japan in particular loves nothing more than to take some powerful being and have them take the form of an attractive girl, who for some flippant reason falls for our very average and ordinary male protagonist, and despite being a Goddess/Dragon/Demoness/Etc... has no greater aspirations in life but to do his laundry and cook his food. 🤔🤷♂
...I may have gotten a little sidetracked there. My point is "Female who is a[n] epic animal thingy] is well-trod ground (but still pretty cool)!
@@hinoron6528 The reason they do that is the lack of reason to do it. They are gods and can get pretty much anyone they want so they just take the weakest person they can find and give them power that would make anyone with ambition go nuts.
That's the logical reasoning. The illogical reason is "fan service".
@@asandax6 That's a rational, well thought out line of reasoning... that I have never once seen actually depicted as THE reason on screen.
But yes, I grasp the meta-reason of fanservice just fine. ;)
I don’t know the backstory, but I like to imagine that the boy and the girl were best friends until something happened and the girl got sacrificed to some water god or smth, and now she got granted magic powers from the water god who NEVER EVEN ASKED FOR A SACRIFICE?!? because the boy actually pretended to get a vision where the water god wanted a sacrifice. Now the girl wants revenge.
That's a really cool interpretation ! 🔥❤
Gahh! This came out stunning, I love the somewhat lineless style and effect! It really pulls everything together! Stunning work!!
This was so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. This is the second time someone has taken that bit of musical genius and made it utterly breathtaking.
Thank you 😭🙏❤
i dont think i've watched such a short animation that made my jaw drop!! THIS IS SO GOODD I LOVE YOU

OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! You’ve totally inspired me to get back into animation!
I came here cause I'm an EPIC fan, but I gotta say, this animation is phenomenal, its so fluid! This must have taken so long! Props!

Kia ora! Kiwi/New Zealander here.
This is amazing, I simply can't stop rewatching it to admire your work.
I can't begin to express from where to start so I'll go over everything really quick. Animation, bloody gorgeous and beautiful, the character designs really sends home to the inspiration you took from my country and the other references you mention in Artstation.
I am extremely glad that you took an interest in my countries mythology, as my country are pretty much under-the-radar in most terms of media and so on. So whenever I see anything to do with Māori culture in media immediately gets my attention.
[Also Mart messed up big time with betraying Tani because of a legend which was only a half-truth, imagine having a Taniwha as a friend, that would be SICK!]
Thank you so much ❤🥝 Tbh I didn't know a lot about Maori culture/mythology before making research to create this short... I really enjoyed discovering it ! I have the feeling Taniwha can be depicted in so various way, I hope more people will try to present their vision of them :) And it's so great to me to have impressions from NZ people ! 🥰🙏 ( thanks to took the time to read the graphic bible ! )

LMAO, just found out that's because you did animate some of Wakfu's scene. Legend.
HOW ARE YOU SO UNDERRATED WHAT?
I saw saw the wip and I must say this looks AMAZING.
The colour contrast, the fluidity of the animation (especially during her changing into that majestic beast, love a good monster design) makes it feel like it’s from a professional tv show or even a game

i really like the video her emotions are so clear, story you posted on your site for this video is amazing, i am playing a DnD campaign set in an ocean world and she is perfect for it. my favorite part was the mistranslation of the legend of "pierce the heart" as its been passed down throughout generations, Its supposed to be the feeling when someone touches your heart through kindness. truly brilliant
Thank you 🙏🏻❤️ and thanks to took the time to read my graphic bible 😊
@@cam-art no thanks necessary it was a very interesting read, would love to see how this story would continue after the stabbing
Interesting analysis! Thanks for taking the time to write it ✨
I wish this was an entire series and not one of song the animation is so goooood

So many good things to say about this, but since I haven't seen this one yet : The WEIGHT in that tail flick is SO well done, and a perfect way to end the sequence. As a reptile keeper and lover it made me SO happy to see!
I’m no expert, but if a woman rips a knife from her chest then turns into a big scary dragon and tells you to get in the water, get in the water. You had a nice life. 😅
That calm seriousness the first few times she says get in the water sent chills down my spine

never seen a taniwha animation of this quality on youtube before, ima sub.
As one who knows of the Taniwha, I like that this depiction is very creative about not only what they would look like, but also that its not a traditional monster. In myth there were a plethora of different taniwha, some protected people, some devoured them, some were servants of the gods, and some had their own followings. I know even some towns and places bare the names of these taniwha. This is absolutely amazing.
Yes that what interested me the most about the creature ! There's so many possibilties ! I'm curently trying to create a little story with differents Taniwha, you can find a little about it on my Instagram @camille_h16 :)
