The Wuhan Institute of Virology was set up in 2018 when China saw a need to do research on deadly and highly transmittable pathogens following the country’s experience fighting the 2002-2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) epidemic. But during the current Covid-19 pandemic caused by another novel coronavirus, the institute has drawn global attention, with some claiming the lab may have been the source of the infection. The US has demanded access to the institute to investigate such claims. But in an interview with Chinese state media in early July 2020, the lab director again denied the allegations, and infectious disease experts have reiterated that it was highly unlikely the virus could have escaped the facility.

Biological research facilities like the Wuhan Institute of Virology are pretty uncommon. Kind of like, say, a McLaren sports car dealership. If you live in a neighborhood that has a McLaren sports car dealership, and a McLaren F1 blasts across your lawn and through your front window into your living room at 2 am, I don't think it's at all unreasonable to believe and investigate the possibility that the McLaren F1 now decorating your living room came from the McLaren dealership down the street. It would be beyond silly to accept at face value the explanation that COVID-19 came naturally from the wet market given this disturbing connection (the virus originating in a major city hosting a lab of this sort) and the potential worldwide health impact of a runaway lab-doctored virus.....
The Wuhan Institute of Virology had an emergency shutdown after a “hazardous event” between October 6-24 2019, during which time there was no mobile activity.
Yeah. Thats over a month before the first case and it shows they take percaution in case of an event. Labs are designed to NOT BREAK. Shutdowns happen even if one vial of the flu breaks. They protect by shutting down till the virus in the vial dies.

This is the top lab in China. Unlikely to come from this lab. May have escaped from a smaller not as well funded lab, but even then compared to the chances of catching it from pest bats is relatively low. Such nonsense speculation only dilutes the real problem. China's officials are more concerned with cover up than actually solving the problem

there are literally numerous of these kind of labs in the world, and considering the importance and size of the city is reasonable they have also build a lab there.
all we gotta do now is to wait the international investigation to be concluded, any speculation now is useless and biased, due to political reasons
Do your research the lab is nowhere near the wet market.
The one that they keep on pointing out in western media is a disease and infection control centre that’s found everywhere in the city and also in all cities. These are meant to help prevent and monitor outbreaks if it did happen. Western media does poor research and only brings up more confusion because they do not report from China and does not even have someone in China to gather real stories and truth.

Yet the lab hasn’t been fined to this day
For those who have doubts, let me try to explain:
1. Only very few Chinese entered America in January and the flights were soon banned. Most initial cases in US are travellers back from Europe in early March, when you could see packed airports.
2. It’s true in US earlier, ordinary people are not mandated to wear a mask, but that was due to the scarcity of PPE for first responders at that time. Resources allocation has priorities. By the way China sold US 2 billion masks and many ventilators over months, enough for 3 masks each to every American citizen.
3. Politicians are always finding a target to shift blame on, so that people would hate another far-located country or a certain group of lookalike people(often easier to distinguish and cater a stereotype upon) rather than hurting their votes.
4. There are still scientific research over whether the wet market is the source or merely first-detected spot, many nasty photos and videos posted on social media are not even taken in Asia, but some random Pacific islands, the Asian-looking people are just tourists visiting those places, thus trying local food as a manner. In fact bat consumption is absolutely unheard of in Northeast Asia. Only Austronesian islands lack of protein source have to do that for survival, sure can’t be blamed either.
5. Even if the virus of another type but similar seriousness originated somewhere else, I bet US administration would have done exactly the same ! (Take H1N1 in 2009 as an example) Why? Because pausing economy = unemployment = losing votes and money. Though lives are saved through early lockdown, but ordinary people would take that for granted and as normalcy, still blaming the administration for job loss. So the best choice for them is to keep economy running, only to take measures when things got serious enough, deluding people into the idea that as if they had saved lives and done a great job.
6. Don’t use Li Wenliang or Wuhan lab as a counter argument. The doctor wasn’t exactly “silenced” as many western media depicted, rather than spreading information that the officials suspected as rumours. He was only questioned by police to check facts, immediately released and back to work on that very day. not even punished. He unfortunately contracted the coronavirus and died, which makes this story more heartbreaking and more matchable with conspiracy theories, which in turns, bringing media more attention and profits if exaggerated.

@@majorknight4158 the aftermath is caused by the unfortunate reality of viral infections, by the inability of governments to set and enforce preventive measures, and by people who do not take this seriously and endanger others with reckless behavior. Viruses with high infectious rates cannot be controlled through human means, and damage caused cannot be blamed on humans either. China was not the only country to have cases in 2019, they were only the first reported case. Plus while there is currently no ironclad evidence that Covid 19 did not come from the lab, there is also no evidence proving that Covid 19 was leaked from the lab. Loss of life is not evidence of fault, and is simply the unfortunate aftermath of a pandemic. Also pandemics are not caused by a single country. They have an origin but the following outcomes are a result of the ineffectiveness of other countries preventive measures. Therefore, it cannot be concluded that this pandemic is entirely caused by China and that they must pay reparations.
The Umbrella Corporation had better labs and they failed.

The same is Fort Detrick Bio weapon lab which was flooded in May last year. Broke open by relief workers.
In early August it was ordered to shut down by CDC due to contamination.
In September delegates from Fort Detrick went to Wuhan for international military game. The outbreak started around that time.
US wouldn't let WHO to investigate by withdrawing from WHO.
