Thank you, i just tied my first FG on 6lb using this with a few personal mods... I changed the red plugs for blanking grommets and used stainless bolts and found some sweet nylon wing nuts at the hardware store :-)
This is clever... but leaning the rod away from you and holding the braid in your mouth is still the most efficient and easy way to keep tension and tie this knot. Thanks for sharing!
Can easily tie the FG without the contraption in less than a couple minutes if people would take the time to practice. You used too many overhand knots around the 2 min mark in my opinion... was like stabbing my own eardrum with an ice pick.
A darker background would have made the line much more visible you noticed that at the end when you put your had behind the knot so we could see it😉!! Just sayin

It sounds like you've gotten yours down pat, but there are plenty of people out there who would love some extra help :) It can also be useful for people who have less dexterity in their hands as well (my father has arthritis and uses the original knot assist - he hates having to ask for my help). If I had seen this video before I bought him his knot assist, I might have tried making one myself :)
The stupid comment ever LOL..I can tie many knots without a tools bro..how can you ask people to stop fishing if they need certain tools to help them..what if I say, if you need fishing rod, reels and hook, stop fishing..because you also can catch fish without all these equipment..LOL

Instead of this fandangled crazy contraption on an already threaded rod put in an overhand loop in your braid and put it over your reel handle and wind it a little and let the rod pre-tension your braid and tie in the same manner. K.I.S.S > Keep It Simple Stupid.

So many easier knots to connect braid to mono/floro
But no such slim, smooth and strong at the same time as the FG
Double uni works for me - strong and takes me about a minute to tie it. Even in the field, which you can't do easily with an FG.
Lost an 8 dollar lure because the FG knot unraveled. Going back to the double uni-knot. Trust me...the FG knot was well tied. Just didn't last.
Never been on that situation before using FG, btw double uni knot also good for casting..
