- Generators are useful appliances that supply electrical power during a power outage and prevent discontinuity of daily activities or disruption of business operations. Generators are available in different electrical and physical configurations for use in different applications. In the following sections, we will look at how a generator functions, the main components of a generator, and how a generator operates as a secondary source of electrical power in residential and industrial applications.
How does a generator work?
An electric generator is a device that converts mechanical energy obtained from an external source into electrical energy as the output.
As a mechanical engineer I really appreciate the efforts for making such a nice video to understand the working of generator khuodos to the team.
thanks you sir..
highly appreciation & thank's for 3D animation, it's very helpful for me to understand to power plant system
thanks sir
Great video
thanks brother
Yes it's three phase, but the three extra connections do have a function. The six connections are there so current can be measured in each phase going in to the machine and also when leaving the machine before the star point is made. This is done on large machines to allow machine differential protection.
Sometimes also the voltage in the star point is measured to detect (the absence of) third harmonics in the voltage. This indicates an earth fault (when operating in an isolated system) .
Thank you I am taking a class on nuclear steam generators and was confused by this, as our main generator is only a 3 phase and they do not discuss the 6 phase so far.
So how about using long magnetic field , hydrogen cooling but the main nuclear turbine that move magnet is moving by hydro water that is regularly flowing water from great hight then just hitting in paddles of generators like today hydro power.. is that possible
Thank you for uploading this
thanks sir
Nice
As an engineer nice Video
Amazing..
thanks sir
thank you,i like this video..if you can share fully video,im so appreciate
thank you too sir
@@Powerplant02 sir do you have some basic calculation of how to design a air cooling system for generator ? Including the calculation to choose the proper design of the fan ?
Great video, I'd like to use a portion for a presentation I'm working on. Would it be possible to contact you for permission?
This is very well done thank you.
you're wellcome sir..
Why can’t we rotate this generator with current of water rather then steams.. and rotate magnet for magnetic field
Can you do videos of hydrogen filling and oil sealing process videos?
ok sir
we will try to make the animation
do they use permanent magnets in large scale powerplants ?
No, only electro magnets
Six phase? Should be three phase?
It is three phases in fact. I don't get why they say six phases. I even asked my electrotechnic's professor and said the video is telling you wrong because they confused those six connectors for six phases.
These are just the start and ending point of the windings and they can be connected star or delta as any three phase motor can be.
Three phase generator. This is a water cooled stator and hydrogen inner cooled generator. The water circulating through the stator windings is de-mineralized (low conductivity).
They should mention the speed of the generator, hydrogen pressure within the generator vessel, etc.
Enough pauses to include that information. Nice illustration.

Why they use hydrogen its so dangerous...?
For cooling, but some generator use water
Six phase? Surely you mean three phase.
