My grandparents owned a house on 8th street since the 50's. I spent all of my summers living in NW. You used to have to walk through two dunes to get to the long walk to the beach. So sad to see the beach gone. Thanks for the video Joey.
Bloody hell! 2 years ago the inlet beach was huge. That jetty didn't even reach the inlet. And now there's no beach from 2nd to 7th. I hope everything can get sorted out
Great town!!!! I was so happy to make it a tradition for my family who didn't grow up there like I did! Even if you prefer Sam's over Mack's, can't argue it's the best beach town.
Mack's hands down!! I have also been going to Wildwood since I was little. And still Love it. I'm from Pa. And I'll drive 2&half hours to be in Wildwood even for a day.. I am so excited to hear that you bring your family all the way from Phoenix just to carry on your tradition. I was just in Phoenix a week ago. I go there to visit my daughter and her boyfriend often. But nothing compares to the Wildwood Ocean, Beach & Boardwalk!!!
Used to fish from the bulkhead at Moores inlet when I was a kid. Also fished from the jetty at 2nd and jfk. It's just a vicious cycle that it's going back to how it was in the 80s and 90s
My wife and I got married on the rocks at 2nd and JFK.. where the gazebo is…and had a mini reception to the right looking out to the ocean…2014… so much beach then…now it’s gone crazy! We stay around 9th and JFK every June …sad to see
I was wondering if this summer you can do two separate videos on how the boardwalks have been upgrading year after year and showing new photos from this year can you do one video on the North Wildwood, Boardwalk, and one video on the Wildwood Boardwalk please
If they drag the back bays and inlet the beach will come back. Had to stop putting out boat in had to leave on high tide and be back before low tide came in. Homes that one time boat docks in their yards now have sand filling the bay. I don’t know why they didn’t do it sooner . Dredge and things I think will get better 3:33
Dang , that is so weird . I lived in N.J. for about 25 years through the late 60's to the early 80 's I've seen the big switch around of the sea there a couple of times. Used to walk that beach from Juniper Ave (where I rented a place two weeks every summer) all the way up to the Moores Inlet bar. (I think that's what it was called) across from the Red Garter. Amazing how nature changes things ! I even remember waves breaking under the Hunts Pier when i was young, then seeing the ocean "way out there" and not even touching the pier ! Your videos bring back many memories ! Thanks !
I stayed in Wildwood every year of my life in the 70's and 80s, then sporadically after that. Back in the early 90's we stayed at place on 2nd Ave between Ocean and Surf. I remember what seemed like at least a quarter mile from the road before you even touched water. I'm really in shock the way the beach (or lack thereof) is now. I mean there is NO beach at high tide from 2nd to 7th Ave, and after that, it's barely a beach at all. Erosion and rising ocean levels are a scary thing. Give it another 20-30 years and the water will be up to Ocean Ave. The block between Ocean Ave and JFK Beach Dr will be gone.
If you check out one of our videos we uploaded last week, you would see footage of this part of the beach airplane in the 1960s. It’s so strange to compare
@@WildwoodVideoArchive Are you referring to the WW2 video you uploaded? Super video by the way. Around what time mark does it show the beach? I was looking for Wildwood beach pictures from the 90's on the internet, but couldn't find any doing a quick search.
That’s right my father and my aunt said when they were teenagers the water went right underneath the boardwalk at 24th St.!!!! You don’t hear anybody talk about that! PLEASE SHOW THAT SAME LOCATION AT LOW TIDE! When I was a child 30 years ago, there was no beach there ! They should do what they did in Ocean City Maryland!
Still cant believe Cape May is getting view blocking dunes built at Higbee Beach on the bay side.........but North Wildwood cant get get any protection from the Atlantic Ocean.....what the heck New Jersey!?!?
@@WildwoodVideoArchivethose dunes are temporary as dunes built along the Gulf Coast of Florida back in October are already 50% depleted and won't survive until hurricane season. The beach will be lost and the houses and roads, too.
Notice how the beaches stick out further into water where there is no sea walls? That's because sea walls cause more erosion and speed it up. You need more sand and rows of dunes, not more sea walls.
Speaking of North Wildwood, I’m surprised they didn’t put a sign on the Boardwalk showing where they border each other past the Gateway 26 arcade casino
My family stays on 2nd ave and last summer it was nice having the beach right across from our condo. I guess not next year. I also recent saw that the condo on the corner of 2nd and JFK sold last year for a million or so. I guess the previous owner saw this coming and thought it would only get worse. Great views from the condo thought but awfully close to the incoming water.
NJDEP is very myopic with its “Trenton knows best” attitude. After two floods in Passaic county this winter several mayors asked the DEP to lower the water level at a critical lake ahead of the next storm in hopes of lessening the expected flood. The DEP refused and the third flood followed.
From 10NBC Philadelphia FEB 4,2024 "New Jersey is refusing to allow a shore town whose sand dunes have washed away in places to build a bulkhead to protect itself, ruling that no one is in imminent danger. The state Department of Environmental Protection told North Wildwood on Wednesday it will not give permission to the city to build a steel bulkhead on a section of beach where the dunes have been completely obliterated by storms. That prompted Mayor Patrick Rosenello to say Thursday the city will move in appellate court for permission to build the barrier, which the state says will likely only worsen erosion from the force of waves bashing against it and scouring away any sand in front of it. “Obviously we are very disappointed in the DEP's continued lack of concern regarding shore protection in North Wildwood,” he said. “The department has failed to do its job and now they are trying to thwart our efforts to protect ourselves. Frankly, it is unconscionable.”
This is amazing.... This is my beach... the beach we swam at... lived just a few houses down from the Hereford lighthouse on Chestnut growing up (late 80's). I remember the beaches and dunes being extensive all along the coast of North Wildwood. The beaches around 16th street were 1/4 mile wide between the water and boardwalk. I guess it's just sand and therefore it's not permanent... , but WOW!
@@WildwoodVideoArchive I saw that in your video... when I was in grade school there was no beach in front of the lighthouse at all and the waves crashed directly on those rocks. After a storm it was really something to stand on top of those rocks when the waves were raging. Also, it looked at though Champagne Island doesn't really exist in the inlet anymore, but now a beach has formed and extended into Hereford Inlet on both the NWW side and the Stone Harbor side... really fascinating. Thanks for sharing the aerial video.

Did they consider making a breakwater which runs parallel to the beach.

Why did the ocean move longer up the beach
When I was a kid the ocean would come right up the boards
The bulkhead is needed
If that’s low tide I’m scared to see high tide let alone another storm😬
Just think, we always get a sizeable nor'easter in March
Stop by the PT Lounge this summer! 😁
