It's abundantly clear that the welsh accent makes you all pussies. No, no, that'll just be me trying to match your level of stupid, and failing miserably.
I keep hearing in the comments that the watery sound he's making is his "friends and family" sound and that makes me so happy. The man walks up to him and goes "How ya doing?" and the bird pretty much responds with "MERLYN! MY MAN!"
Hahaha brilliant i hit the deck reading that, be great if he turned the camera around at the end and there was a little welsh fella in a giant raven costume. On a serious note great video Merlyn that bird is a crafty fella there's a brain ticking round in his head he knows what's going on fascinating stuff. Honestly you often think animals are just animals but we are animals no different than them. Like humans i believe some animals are smarter than others and he is a clever fella. Lovely eyes you can see right into his soul through those eyes you can see the emotions and feelings of that bird.
finally someone understands whats actually going on... everyone in these comme ts is all "hes making noise like water, he is asking for water".. 😑...some people, I swear.
Miriam Alvarez Thank you Miriam, I do think I am the most adorable, but Raymond can steal most of the Thunder at times , and Miriarm he is not the loveliest creature all the time, he can be a pain in Butt but I loved him!!!! Will!!!
Corvids like ravens and crows have 2 languages. The crowing sound you usually hear is for those they don't consider family. Those they consider family get that pretty, water bubbling sound you hear at the first part. It warms my heart that Raymond considers this man to be family. 🖤🖤🖤
This is magical....such a beautiful connection between man and bird. It's only possible because this delightful gentleman has such a beautiful soul. Thank you, Sir, for sharing your quality time with Raymond with the rest of the world.
What a beautiful bird. You obviously have a very special relationship with him. How lucky you both are to have found each other! I hope you have this wonderful friendship for many years to come.
Magpies in Australia can recognize faces also. Around August to late September each year they nest and came become rather savage. However I used to feed a clan that was around 20 birds. Our local park had a huge problem with people being swooped - except me. I could see people being swooped all around the park one day then I entered and they stopped swooping the others but came to me and waited for food. I had never fed them at the park and only ever at my front yard. I also had no food with me at the park as I was passing through to the shops on the other side. They followed me all the way to the shops. Crows, raven, magpies I believe are all from the same family group and ALL show astounding problem solving capabilities. These seemingly tame behaviors from young magpies can change for the worst once a young bird reaches sexual maturity - they will take your eye out if you aren't careful. Adults can be quite tame once they learn to trust. I think the issue I experienced with a young and tame bird becoming aggressive after being a pet at my dads may have been linked to hormones - like most randy little teenagers they tend to lose control.
I guess you take care really well the crow. The bird is absolutely free in the street but it doesn't run away. I think it is amazing. It must be very happy with you. I think pets should be free to decide if they want to stay with owners or they prefer run away. Good job.
alfonso gutierrez actually, the pet would die cause humans feed it , and they have no idea how to hunt. so they either starve to death , freeze to death , get ran over , or killed by another animal. don't let your pet's outside alone..
I agree with Miriam! My finance sent this to me and it just gave me a huge smile. Having always loved Ravens, this video is absolutely amazing to me! I see them often where we live in Arizona, but never so up close and personal. What a lovely friendship and bond you share! Thank you for sharing this. I've subscribed in the hope of seeing Raymond more often :).
+LilyAZ Hi Lily, The Ravens territory extends from the High Arctic in Northern Canada and Alaska all the way down to Mexico, you have to get close to them when they are fledglings, ie; as soon as they have left the nest when they are that young they have no fear of humans, Merlyn...
Thank you Merlyn! We have 3 that fly by our house every day now, and land in our pines, I have gotten photos with a zoom, but they don't let us get too close. So beautiful.
This bird likes you very much. Those chuckling sounds he is making at the beginning are the same as they make to their mates and to their young. They are meant to be soothing. The later sounds he made were his imitation of your laugh. He obviously enjoys your company. What a lucky friendship you have there.
He is so happy this raven and he gets such nice mood from this man and he notices it. Of course he will touch his finger - he likes him. This is a wonderful encounter and seems he got food from the man. He was not even afraid to peck his finger. SO cute. I wish I had such a raven close to me, I would go see it every day.
+FilthyCasualKai "i am almost positive he's imitating the sound of trickling water." Doubtful. Crows have two forms of vocalizations. The "Caw! Caw!" that is reserved for strangers and the crow community at large and those watery-ish noises you hear in this video. This latter form of vocalization is reserved for family and close, personal friends. While it's not remarkable in the sense of the crow mimicing water (it isn't), it is remarkable in the sense that it demonstrates the crow really likes the man filming the video, since he's treating him like family.
Thank you Merlyn for sharing the video. I'm an avid bird watcher and lover. Ravens are my favorite bird. Since aging and going "gray"...I call myself Silver Raven. You and Raymond have an amazing bond. Thanks again!
Yes, I believe he did. What's really amazing about that is this seems to be a wild bird, not a hand raised pet. You'd expect a pet to mimic but a wild one doing that is pretty awesome.
Natives in USA believe that the Raven is a relative inside the Raven's body. They talk to the birds through mental conversation and seek guidance for troubled times .
I've watched this footage like a million times since I found it (a bout a week ago), and just can't get enough. Just a beautiful moment. Ravens are such magnificent & fascinating creatures. Plus your voice & talk with this one is just... spectacular. Thanks for sharing!! Amazing!!
what a lovely video showing just how sociable a Raven can be, you are privileged to have earned his respect. I have always encouraged Crows and Ravens in to my garden especially over the winter months so much so a pair of Crows made their nest in a tree behind my garden. They should never be seen as pests .
I wish I understood bird-speak....he's having an in depth conversation with Merlyn. Such sweet sounds he makes. Birds are WONDERFUL!!!!!!! He has a cute fluffy head....adorable fella. He is copying Merlyn's laugh ...how fabulous
The raven wants water. Listen to this 'stream or brook' sound effect ( */watch?v=TEwSi0alHBA* ) and you'll hear the striking resemblance. The man gives him food, but no water so the bird tries to communicate 'water' by imitating water. He tries over and over but the man just jabbers at him. At about the 2:30 mark, the crow gets frustrated and starts growling (this is common when mother birds try to correct their chicks). Frustrated that this doesn't work, the crow tries to establish communication by imitating the man's sound, but since the man is just laughing, the crow starts doing the same. "haw haw haw hu-hu-hu-huh". Then the man leaves. The bird is like "WTF bruh? I thought we were cool?" I'm fairly sure that since it's winter, all of the normal places to get water are frozen solid, so he's very thirsty. I'm sure he's thankful that you leave food out, since that is also probably scarce in the winter, but I think he wanted water. He realized that you are helpful, so he probably figured you could help him get water. Smarter than you think, these ravens...
oggyreidmore Oh I get it! This raven is saying something the equivalent of "splash splash" in English as a way of saying "I'm thirsty!"/"Give me water!" It seems like ravens really do have their own language.
Sgt Slim It's a penguin, right? Or maybe an ostrich? Either way the point remains valid. Tell you what: I'll go ahead and make a spelling merstake so you can nit pick that too.
+Heimdallr Perhaps the raven didn't want water, but consider this: 1- It was all snowy, which means it was pretty cold. Perhaps the raven couldn't find water in liquid state (because all puddles were frozen) or the water in newly formed puddles was just too cold to drink. 2- The raven had a reason to be there. That man probably gives him food, perhaps even water. If the raven has noticed that the water from that man isn't as cold, perhaps that's the reason why it was there. Who knows? 3- Being able to find food and drink on their own doesn't mean that animals won't try to get it from people if they have a choice. For instance, if they know of some "neighbor" that usually gives them stuff and never hurts them, that's a whole lot easier for them than having to fly around looking for it, don't you think?
What a funny fellow! My husband is fascinated by corvids, and tried chatting up a raven that we met at a castle in Ireland. The raven hung out for a while, then moved on, probably muttering something about the dang tourists. We had fun watching the crows raid our garden in Maryland, but we don't have ravens or crows in south central Texas, and we miss them.
Under the umbrella of a licensed wildlife rehabber, specializing in birds in the Mojave Desert, I raised a few. Most remarkable was Orville, who lived like one of the family for 9 months and left in a snowstorm. In the morning, the whole wild flock was waiting for breakfast on the roof over the kitchen. I fed them all for as long as the snow lasted. In the summer, on moving day, actually, he brought his wife and children and sat them on the telephone lines over the front yard. Then he went back to the corral and I followed, and he said goodbye to me in private. I will never forget him or the others I raised and released.
+kidfromstatenisland I have only just noticed this response of yours, kid. I regret not seeing it before. Thank you for the story. I am most impressed...(Wow!)
there once was a raven named Jack, who flew with the wind at his back. he'd dip and he'd dive til about a quarter to five, then he'd fly home just in time for a snack...
the last thing this bird was doing was so mimiking your laughter!! That is awesome you had a good laugh with the bird!! He even laughed after biting your finger haha. Very good share THANK YOU
this is so wonderful Merlyn! I'm so jealous of your lovely friendship with that intelligent feathered boy! you'll live to be 110 with all that laughter!
I think the comment from oggyreidmore is spot on, really nice of you to feed him and so good to see and listen to this lovely bird, I hope you put water for him and the rest of the birds, they need both in the winter... he's amazing he really is making water like sounds.
I owned one at age 9-10 but, mine actually talked and had a few, but remained with one and showed it how to talk and they are Highly intelligent. It reminds me of the GREAT Movie The Crow. Plus having a mix and Native American in my blood I love these creatures and Wolves which I have also trained.. the Love for Animals has to be there... it's why Animals Love me.
Birds fascinate me in so many ways! Here I'm fascinated because I wasn't aware that crows could imitate so many different sounds, especially the sound of water droplets falling into a pond!
A raven on a telephone pole said, "Hello:, to me when I was walking my dog. He responded after every time I said it. It was amazing. These birds are like Mina birds.
Too cute. I love Ravens and Crows. Sorry I had to laugh, when he nipped your finger. And you said I knew you were going to do that. Thanks for my smile of the day.
This is one of the sweetest things I've ever seen. A raven conversing with a jolly Welshman. What a pair.
I know isn't that something?
Made me smile as well. They both sound very pleased with the company of each other.
I love how you pathetically weak little boys take our friendly accent as a weakness! haha test us!
It's abundantly clear that the welsh accent makes you all pussies. No, no, that'll just be me trying to match your level of stupid, and failing miserably.
Octo Gone ya lol
PLOT TWIST: The raven was also capturing a video. He named it Conversation with a funny Welsh guy. :))
Raymond has not been the same since loosing his gig at the Tower of London. SAD.
I laughed so hard.
Hayley de la Koozebane Your laugh placed a much needed smile on my face. Thank you!
TheiLame Yes He did lol
I keep hearing in the comments that the watery sound he's making is his "friends and family" sound and that makes me so happy. The man walks up to him and goes "How ya doing?" and the bird pretty much responds with "MERLYN! MY MAN!"
XerxesTexasToast I wish I could like this more than once.
Yes! They say that to family
Aww!!!!
What's really interesting is that call he's making is a call reserved for "family". So this raven essentially sees you as one of his own.
Meanwhile, he was wearing a raven costume the whole time.
Yay! Someone who listens to corvid-talk and knows what this one is saying to the Welsh-man. He's calling Merlyn one of his tribe. Much love :)
That is so wholesome
Don't know who's more adorable. You sir or the raven. Bless your kind heart for being this lovely creatures friend.

+Miriam Alvarez I know right Mariam, two sweethearts.
+Miriam Alvarez Exactly!
"where's those crows?"
**water bubbling sound**
"I knoooow"

Raven: I drowned them :)
He's mimicking a corrupted MP3 file.
+MrWolfSnack XD Thanks m8, needed the laugh.
+MrWolfSnack LMAO
LO
I ain't laughing one bit -_-
@@humanoid7495 No one cares ^^
Raymond sounds like he's glitching.
ya lol
MASTERGWONAM ya
I'm pretty sure at the end that he was figuring out how to laugh like you. And then it bit your finger and laughed about it. That is hilarious.
Corvids like ravens and crows have 2 languages. The crowing sound you usually hear is for those they don't consider family. Those they consider family get that pretty, water bubbling sound you hear at the first part. It warms my heart that Raymond considers this man to be family. 🖤🖤🖤

I love it when he laughs! hahahaha! cool birds, Ravens. Crows too. Intelligent and cheeky
I could listen to that man talk all day.
Hi Esria!! What would you like hear?? I could send you some Xmas poems I did for a friend in YK two years ago......
Merlyn Williams Hi there, sir!
I would love to receive any poems or any thing you would like to send me as well!
Why cant I ever meet amazing people like this!?
C Elaine life hack: become a raven
ripb1b wanted ad: witches;fairies;warlocks, etc: any known spells, voodoo, magical powers ie. supernatural wanted to become said raven. ;)
+C Elaine Hi C Elaine, You just did just talk to the animals.....
I've never seen a fluffy raven until now.
Also, Raymond seemed to want water.
lol me to
+Stre Led ravens are commonly fluffy, crows not
Aaron Many animals need water and liquid to survive... and food like humans.
I thought the same thing ! To my ear the sound he made was like water gurgling.. like he was asking for water.
I didnt know ravens made that clucking sound. So odd!
the make whatever sound the can mimic
It's some sort of trickling water sound it heard.
They are very good mimickers. Like parrots, but probably better.
SvenOkonomi he was trying to talk
I have heard them mimick squirrel sounds too
What a beautiful bird. You obviously have a very special relationship with him. How lucky you both are to have found each other! I hope you have this wonderful friendship for many years to come.
This is the most adorable video I've seen in months!
I'm sorry, sir, but I have to ask: are you a Santa Claus?
+Genos Blond Cyborg No I am not Santa Claus but I am a Jolly Fellow!!!!
people have suggested that you give the raven water, when he makes that sound.
I have to reply to that question? "Are you Santa Claus?" No, but I am a Jolly Fellow!!!!
He's ODIN.
Santa Claus might be somewhere down in the basement. Ta-ta.
You are the sweetest man I've ever heard! I can't get enough of this video.. Bless you
+amber katz Thank You!! Merlyn,,,,,
Amazing birds, they can recognize human faeces, awsome!
What I read was "Amazing birds, they can recognize human feces, awesome!"
Skyhawk faeces is the plural of feces.
Really? Learn something new every day lol.

jesuriah faeces is the name given to human excrement. Faces is plural for face as far as I learnt in English.

What a wonderful, happy, creature.
I know, the welsh are cool.
You, sir, have the BEST voice ever!
he's welsh, so yea sounds really friendly.
Well thank you, us Welsh do try to speak the Queens language properly, Cheers Merlyn........
The Welsh have never started a war. They love music poetry and are romantic, but we do tend to exaggerate at times!!!!!
Merlyn Williams I hope you can narrate my life someday.
Just put it in writing and I will narrate your life.
I am sure it is a very interesting one.
Cheers Merlyn aka Will...........
Being an American I enjoyed listening to Merlyn as much as Raymond. The Welsh accent is lovely!!
To quoth the raven: -robot sounds-
popple, weres rookie?
Theres something infuriating about misquoting poe. "quoth the raven" not "to quoth the raven"
really? huh. always thought there was a"to" there. Haven't read it in a while. sorry bout that!
Nunya Buisness Poe didn't say robot sounds, either. He was paraphrasing, you ninny.
I've never heard that sound from a bird, sounds like water slashing around lol
Jo-E, that's what I think he's imitating.
ravens are great at imitating :)
Lola Bint I honestly never knew they could, I always thought parrots were the only ones lol
ravens are twice as smart as any parrot
It is a ringtone it heard :P
I thought ravens said, "Nevermore."

nice comment :)

Not true Ravens and crows are overly social and do get adopted with familys of there species.
that man is so sweet and so is the bird, animals know when you love them
janmarbol lol not really

there are few things in life more charming than watching old friends make each other laugh
He bites his finger and then laughs at him lmao

that crow wants water
thats a raven and it rather sounds like its imitating water.
Dank weed because it wants it. thats how they ask for things
Tomas Ferreira Not exactly. They imitate for fun and also communication.
If the crow wanted water it would fly somewhere and find it, nothing was stopping him.

Perhaps the raven didn't want water, but consider this:

Sweet boy. They're so bright and wonderful.
Neighbor's birds will mimic the sounds of things they want. In this case it looks like the bird wanted water.
Love this lol! So loud people have no idea. When they start yacking in my yard I tell them to GO! and THEY DO! Smartest birds ever!
Thank you for showing us this Beautiful creature
Birds fascinate me in so many ways! Here I'm fascinated because I wasn't aware that crows could imitate so many different sounds, especially the sound of water droplets falling into a pond!
This is fantastic!!!
This video made me laugh and brightened my work day. Thumbs Up

A raven on a telephone pole said, "Hello:, to me when I was walking my dog. He responded after every time I said it. It was amazing. These birds are like Mina birds.
I love the guy talking in the video. He sounds genuinely amused. I love it!
This is very sweet! You are awesome and this bird loves you😍
It sounded like he was mimicking the sound of a glass of liquor being poured.
He was imitating his laughter at the end :)
This guy sounds so happy! Like Santa Claus! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much! I couldn't figure out what bird call I was hearing in my neighborhood. It's definitely a raven!
He has such an infectious laugh. I found myself giggling watching this video.
Too cute. I love Ravens and Crows. Sorry I had to laugh, when he nipped your finger. And you said I knew you were going to do that. Thanks for my smile of the day.
I love his laugh!!
also I love the water drop sound that ravens make
Interesting how it tries to imitate other ambient sounds as well. That "water sound" or whatever it was warbling was quite an interesting sound.
