so many "van life" videos are mostly about doing a bunch of expensive mods to vehicles. i like your videos because its more about making use of what you already have. which is very helpful to me just starting out with my first van. thanks for sharing
I watch UA-cam videos on living in vehicles ALL THE TIME and I have rarely found any so useful as this one! I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan (minivan) that I 'live' in off and on. I travel a lot and wouldn't be able to afford doing so, if I had to pay for a motel or even a campground fee. So, I'm always trying to find free places to park that have cell phone coverage and bathrooms. I have a cartop carrier, so I have plenty of room. However, it seems I never have enough room, really. But, I realize it's just that I don't have things organized very well. This video gave me so excellent ideas. These are some of the ideas you presented that I will be researching further: 1. Shelf/cargo net all the way across the back. 2. Using thin plywood for shelving with small holes drilled into it, along with zip ties or paracord and carabiners. That is brilliant! 3. Support legs made of PVC pipe. 4. A bear canister for food storage. 5. Visor organizers. 6. Kleenex strapped to headrests. 7. Paper towels held on with bungee cords attached to head rest posts. 8. Hanging little hooks from the hard plastic ceiling lights, along with paracord loops. That is also BRILLIANT!
Hi Cheryl! I'm so glad you found the ideas useful. The shelf/cargo net is enormously helpful and makes use of otherwise unused space. The bear canister isn't really necessary for food storage. I just use it because I have one and use it on some hikes on my trips. Let me know how any changes you make to your setup go!
Excellent advice. I have an SUV and am planning to go camping in it, and trying to organize my thoughts and then the car. Your videos are straightforward and informative. Good job.
There are lots of camper van and RV interior videos but very few for SUVs so your video is really inspiring. My SUV is setup a bit like yours but with the addition of a mini "kitchen" that allows me to brew up coffee, fry eggs and cook a simple one pot meal. Thanks for this video and I look forward to more like this.
SUV RVing You should put what kind of SUV you live in, within the description box and/or title of the video. Just a suggestion. I'm looking to do this in a Honda Pilot [last gen].
So glad I found your channel! I'm at the beginning of turning my 05 Dodge Magnum station wagon into a camper. Sometimes for Solo trips and sometimes for my wife and I. Great ideas! Can't wait to see more of the tricks and tips you have to share. Thanks!
Love the videos. I've done similar stuff with my Kia Cerato hatch and have had great fun. No lasting damage for resale. I do think I'd be bothered not having a spare tyre though, especially in remote areas. Great to see you enjoying nature without spending tons of cash.
The strong magnets still don’t seem strong enough to keep critters out of the RV. Reinforcing the screen with small hole chicken wire or maybe better a sturdy 1/2” square hole fencing. I recently saw someone with sturdy slide in window vents that are screened, that seem even more sturdy. They are not likely to prevent a large persistent pest, but perhaps keep a out pesky raccoon.
Thanks for these videos. I'm always looking for ways to shoehorn myself and my two dogs into a Ford Fiesta for extended camping trips. You have some ideas I have never seen! I also have a d.light and love it.
Thank you very much! Yesterday I built the exact same shelf in the back of my Kia Rondo. I plan on implementing more of your excellent ideas. Cheers from Canada!

I've used a weed sprayer shower in the past but didn't care for it because 1) it took up too much space in my car when not in use, and 2) I didn't like always having to have one hand operating the shower part. Found your channel a couple of days ago. Had to subscribe because you're living my dream. I love to climb mountains too. I realize I need a very dependable SUV car to be able to go into those dirt roads and not get stuck. With your experience which SUV car would would you buy if you were starting out today. I love my RAV4. It goes well down dirt roads, has enough space, is easy to drive, and gets great gas mileage. My next car will probably be a Toyota 4Runner, budget willing. It's a big enough SUV to have a good amount of space there but is also seriously off-road capable. Basically anything by Honda or Toyota will be very dependable.
Ok then. I'll get a Toyota forerunner. I've only had two cars in my life. My first was a Toyota long bed. I have a Chevy S 10 four-wheel-drive now with a shell in the back but it's old. I plan on exploring the Eastern Sierra in the coming year but I need a reliable car. Your videos are very inspiring to me. Going through all your videos now started with your first one. Great stuff. love seeing a similar setup to mine (check it out if you have some time). i'm in a 2008 nissan pathfinder, and let me tell you - as i'm sure you already know - you have to stay super organized when dealing with such a small space. cheers.
Does no one know the word "floor" anymore? The ground is outside beneath our feet. Floors are inside as in the "floor of your car". You can have a ground floor indicating that the floor is at ground level. Sorry it just hurts me for some reason when people call a floor the ground, silly I know. I should share that I did subscribe and I do enjoy your videos. I have car camped in my Prius with the same self inflating mattress, a butane stove, a 12 volt coleman frig, a flip out plywood table using my hiking poles for the outer table legs, no see-um screens for my windows, a small folding 3 legged chair to sit at the table to eat, luci solar lantern, reflectix on the windows for privacy at night, etc. I really enjoyed it and appreciate the additional tips I am gaining from you.
I realized I said that as I was editing the video, but I didn't feel like going back and re-shooting the whole thing to get it right. Either way, you know what I meant. Don't be an ass.
No wonder with such an attitude you have so few subscribers even though you do a good job on your videos. You should go back and read the comment I edited BEFORE reading your reply to my unfinished comment. I am a 64 year old grandmother who has no desire to offend and if you had given me time to get my comment the way I really wanted it you would have seen that.
Your original comment was not nice, and I gave what was an appropriate response to the comment at the time. Now that you've edited it (and come on, you can't get mad at me for being quick to respond to a comment!), it doesn't sound as bad. I've only been making videos for a couple of months and have made only 11 videos. I'm thrilled with the number of subscribers I have. That's great that you've camped in a Prius. I was strongly considering getting a Prius before I got a RAV4. Those are great cars, and it sounds like they make excellent little RVs. I love how you can keep them running on the batteries overnight, and the AC will come on intermittently to keep things cool (or warm; whatever you've got it set to). At least, that's what I've read. What a great feature. That makes me want to get a hybrid RAV4 as my next car. Thanks for sharing your experiences, and sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I hope you enjoy my future videos. Friends?
Sean Ferguson well I guess as the english language falls into more and more muddled and slang prone usage you will be perfectly happy to be served a tomato when you ask for a potato while expressing yourself in all your foul mouthed glory. Have a great day! Maybe learn a new word or two of foul disgusting stuff that is fit for those who don't know how to express themselves intelligently. Incase you didn't notice SUV RVing and I worked out our discussion intelligently without ever needing to resort to help from you.
Re ziplock bags, to ssve space, I remove them from their cardboard boxes and put all into one of the largest zip bags. I can see into the largest bag, so I know what size bag I am grabbing.
For two reasons, really. First, just to make sure it's not building up when I idle the car for extended periods of time. Second, for when I'm cooking with propane or butane inside the car. Thanks for watching and commenting, Pamela.

Friends?
who fucking cares what he calls it.
Incase you didn't notice SUV RVing and I worked out our discussion intelligently without ever needing to resort to help from you.
where did you get the net rig for the back shelf?
Online somewhere. If you Google "RAV4 cargo net" you'll find it.
Bear/ bare cannister?? Newbie asking
Bear
I like it lt l ooks very cozy and convienent!
It is! It's a great little setup. Thanks Steph.
Re ziplock bags, to ssve space, I remove them from their cardboard boxes and put all into one of the largest zip bags. I can see into the largest bag, so I know what size bag I am grabbing.
एक young आदमी ही इतने सामान के साथ,इतनी कम जगह में,इतने adjustment के साथ comfortably सो पाएगा।पर फिर भी आपने अपनी suv में सबकुछ कर लिया 👍
Tropicana orange juice containers (59 oz) make excellent p-jugs for guys.
My wife and I camp a lot, and we can haul everything in our 2004?Saturn Vue
Now thats def hood
❤️
Why do you need a carbon monoxide detector?
For two reasons, really. First, just to make sure it's not building up when I idle the car for extended periods of time. Second, for when I'm cooking with propane or butane inside the car. Thanks for watching and commenting, Pamela.
Very smart indeed
i bought the book
Gonna be a whole lot more sleeping in cars and other small vehicles in a community near you...
lots more spaces than first appears.
So jealous of the organizational skills you have BUT really jealous that you're a guy and have pee bottles. Unfortunately, us ladies can't do that😭 can you show us the things you put on rice cakes? Need some ideas.
My wife actually uses the pee bottle too. I just asked her about it, and this was her reply: "You just have to know where it comes out!"
@@SUVRVing Well, I could do it standing up but I've tried sitting and oops, didn't work for me. Maybe more practice. If I had a van I could stand and it would be easier.
A Tropicana (59 oz) orange juice container works nicely for guys as a p-jug. It`s long grippy neck insures no dropping. 'Spose it would work ok for a gal, too....
Get a hardside
I don't know what that means.
SUV RVing hey!!! And a hard top for storage atop your car
Ah. I thought you meant a hard-sided suitcase or something. Yep, a rooftop cargo box is on my list of things to get.
SUV RVing excellent. You ever thought of bow hunting. That would make one of the greatest video content in my opinon on the tUbe!!! Traveling and hunting in different regions. Still great content and I'm still here watching😊
Nope, I'm not really a hunter. So you'll have to be content with just my SUV travel videos for the foreseeable future :)
