In my opinion, that 1999 mets team was better than the 2000 one. Statistically, talent wise. Just ran into a hot Atlanta team who always had their number up to that point.
absolutely the 99 team was better. 2000 was a very good team who got hot in October for a bit and, honestly, was a bit lucky that they avoided Atlanta in the playoffs that year. But 1999 was a legit great team.
Both of those teams were very good. I would say 2000 was more balanced than 1999 Mets. The offense was more balanced with better starting pitching. Mike Hampton and Bobby Jones had big games in that postseason. The 1999 team never had great starting pitching outside of Al Leiter.
Actually the 2000 Mets hit more homeruns but probably a lower batting average. You're right about the defense being better in 99. The bullpen was the same guys in both years. The 2000 Mets played the Braves tougher than in 99.

That Yankee team was dominant: 98-64, 900 runs scored (47 more than the Mets), +169 run differential in the regular season. 11-1 in the postseason, with their only loss coming against Pedro Martinez. The 2000 Yankees, however, were mediocre, & the Mets were the better team going into that WS.

I've regretted that ever since I heard the roars from outside Shea as we were walking out. We made up for it in October at the 28:40 mark, in one of the best regular season games in Shea's history.

This was the Mets team I first loved; I saw the game on August 6th that year when they played the Dodgers @ Shea Stadium. Good times....

I had the 2000 video and read "Foodtown" as "Footdown". I never went into a Foodtown until I was in my 20s
