If only EQ didn't destroy phase. I like imaging too much to fix a lot of headphones with EQ. There really is no reason someone can't just make DSP correction that doesn't effect phase.

Resolve smiles much more often when you all are not around. This is because he requires solitude in order to deeply contemplate the tue wonder of it all!
The easiest way to make resolve smile is to get him to watch wave theories review of the 109 Pro. Wave Theory claims the headphone cable makes a huge difference. Wave Theory should start a comedy channel.
Yes down to 10 Hz 🤲🏻. The rules are completely different in headphones as you only need a fraction of the sound pressure compared to a speaker tweeter. Was a stunning moment for the team, when we first heard a bass coming through an AMT 🤯
Not a question of cost/expense but almost entirely how much gain the amp has. They need less actual current than a susvara for example, but TONS of voltage. So you need an amp with high max voltage output and very high gain, ideally 24dB or more
@@Viewer13128I would the the topping LA90 would be fine. Running a headphone off a modern speaker amp is the way to go, because its perfectly safe due to their voltage offsets mossfets switching. Just don't be a idiot about it.
A little of topic, but will you be reviewing the Hifiman EF-600 dac/amp either here or in print? I mainly want to know if they fixed the problems with the EF-400 which you said you'd do an update on if they did? Thanks. Love the channel btw!!
The part about HEDDphone weight was interesting. They were known for being heavy and uncomfortable. The were 718g. ~0,75% of that is 538,5g, that's a solid reduction. Shows that the era of uncomfortable & heavy headphones is nearing to an end. Every producer which fails to release nonw-wooden headphones below 500g, aiming at below 450g and wooden ones below 550g, aiming at below 500g should now be ashamed and laughted at. And, of course, they should always be comfortable at the same time. No more stupid headbands like Final, Focal, Abyss etc.
Room correction is just a form of EQ. "EQ can fix nothing". "EQ temporarily puts a Band-Aid on sonic flaws." (according to Dave the honest audiophile and he has god on his side so he must be correct. Right?) Therefore you need to work out how you are going to achieve a permanent solution to room problems.
Its really sad how almost every other industry embraces new technology exept this one. Its all about that purchase validation addiction, and eq gets in the way of that. These people have deluded themselves into believing that the tuning supplied by the manufacturer is the best it can possibly be, which wouldn't even be true if it was on paper, because of your own head transfer function. So even in a world were we knew what a flawless tuning was, it still could be improved. Thats how misguided these people are.
@@benstain2674 yes the tuning supplied by the manufacturer is always a compromise of cost VS performance so you will rarely see a perfect frequency response. Mostly it's very easy to fix hardware defects with software. Then there's personal reference. Not everyone likes the tuning provided by the mastering engineer.
@@dangerzone007 to be fair, these are very niche channels of a already niche community. You're always going to have outliers for any product no matter how awful it is. I recently bought a pair of LCDi4, a iem so awful in its stock tuning that even audeze said it was designed with dsp correction in mind. I correct it to IEF 2023, which requires a peak of 10db gain at 3500hz, and that target has the shallowist pinna gain of all neutral targets. The defult tuning of that thing sounds like you a listening through a wall while underwater, yet they're are plenty of reviews that say it sound awesome, "meaty", "full", judging purly through 3.5mm. There will never be a limit to their excuses, so its best to just see it as clown behaviour at this point.
When will the drop Sennheiser HE-X happen?!!! Just the headphone no amps and less than usd 5k would be nice. That is impressive everything else is just ok blah blah blah because once you get to hear HE 1 other headphones are just less appealing even what they call flagship but really goodnt compared to it. Tone coherency the rightness of the sound is beyond what you expect from headphones. My bias is the absolute sound and speaker systems that ate balanced with dynamics and intense tone density / color that gives the sound natural realism. All these ultra high end stuff is just too expensive even for headphones.
You can get very close to it by buying a lcd 5 or susvara, using autoeq, and adhering it to the IEF 2023 target. The HE-1 isn't a detail king like the shangri-la Sr or aperio, its very much on par with the conventional flagships. The reason it sounds more natural is because its the only model to have a bass boost of 2db below 120hz. The rest are completely flat, which sounds too thin. The IEF target will get you 95 to 99% of the sonic experience, obviously without the physical one.
I've thankfully never been afflicted with the headphone bug. Good speakers are perfectly fine for my music listening. I do have a set of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 Ohm that I use in digitizing LPs. They cost $132 when I bought them about 2 years ago and sound pretty good. So would it be safe for me to assume that $2000 headphones sound 15x as good?
