The learning curve was massive on these, but once you unlocked just _SOME_ of this monster's potential, there was so much you could do with just one instrument!
That was one of the most compelling synth demos I've ever seen - well done! It's the first time that I've heard orchestral patches actually sound musical on a synth. I picked up a K2500X recently, so I'm looking forward to getting to know it. However, you were clearly using the sampler function a lot, which was great.
I've had the fortune of playing with several of the models.... they are all TRULY what you put into them, sweat...blood...tears, and probably some "OH GOD, WHY CHOOSE ME FOR THIS TASK?!!? Kurzweil synths can be a bear to learn ,but once learned...and learned WELL, they are fantastic to work with! Nice work on this video! very cinematic. I could see this doing well in Prince of Persia, or something along those lines.... an action or FPRPG set in the right period and geography. again, great work! Jim Richards
all of this AND sampling. this thing is a beast. It has to be the next best thing to having a DAW and a ton of VST's. I'm hoping to snag one very soon...
The Kurzweil K and PC Series is still the best out of the box instrument for that kind of music! And even a current gen Kronos can´t beat the orchestral sounds from a 20 (?) years old K2500!
Agreed, kronos and even its predecessor the oasys lack "character" to my view, it s just alright but I m surely the proper target for this kind of gear.
Your aftertouch and velocity programming is amazing! I own a fully optioned K2000R and love the sounds inside these versatile machines.. You have inspired me to work on obtaining a better use of layers. Thanks for your video...very cool! I would love to see a list of the synths you currently own.
This is an amazing transition of musical ideas. Love it. I've listened to this at least 10 times. I would love to hear more of your music. Do you have CD's or downloads of your music? Thank you so much for posting this.
amazing!! can i ask something? that indian sound with vocal, is it preset or you put in to the machine from somewhere? i have k 2600 and i dont have that sound. Many thanks for video.
Sorry for the late answer: I have take these indian voices from a "Sample-CD". The Sample I imported into the Kurzweil and layered as one patch. The Setup includes : Tabla-rhythym (also self-sampled), Sitars, sitar-orchestras and these indian voices...
Hi Javier, the most of all sounds - Except Strings, Brass, Pianos, Drums - are self-made Samples: Indian Voice, Waterphone, Plane, Rhythm-sections, Dudelsack, Accordeon, etc. Which sound do you prefere?
Sonic Memorization. Moving is all that I can think. I see why Richard Wright played one.. and by the way, dude,, yer pretty damn good. Are U a Berklee cat?
I have a Kurzweil 2500 that I bought online. I just wanted the stock sounds like the piano sound you were using at the beginning of the video. But the model that I purchased has been so tinkered with with MIDI sounds and such that I can’t find those stock sounds. Are they gone? Or is there some hard reset I can do? Because the sounds that are on this board are terrible
Hey Scott, my Kurzweil XS is fully expanded. The piano sounds come from the piano expansion board. I also use the Orchestral and Contemparyboard. With Hard Reset you will not find these piano sounds unless a piano board is installed.
hey master, hi!!, how did you get all that orchrestral and piano programs playing all together in the begining of the video (i guess on setup mode, of course) with the poor polifony (48) of k2500x (i have the same) and do not having problems with latency, using another rack k2500 or something?? or using programs with few layers?? Thanks from Chile!!
Hi there ... thanks for reply and your questions. I hope to be able to answer you all..... in the first four minutes, I use eight setups with key and velocity layers .. I change the setup with the pedal. In this video I use ONLY a K2500XS. The programming possibilities are endless. the sounds in the different layers are different Patches .. Example: Velocity: 0-65 = soft strings and strings 66-127 hard .. and so on. The sounds are a mix of samples and the synthesizer in the K2500.. the work with the Kurzweil K-Series makes after the architecture has understood very versatile... please lokk this video from Jordan Rudness .. Jordan Rudess - Live Performance with Kurzweil K2600
synthi62 agreed with you, this machines are the best and a beast!! jaja, ´couse only few people knows what these keyboards do and are. I`m going soon for the pc3k
Dear Jay, I wrote it under the description: Kurzweil Piano Sounds with the Piano Expansionboard 0:52 Orchestral Expansionboard and sampled Strings and Orchester-Hits. Velocity Keystroke hard: coming up Timpanis, Crashes etc 4:08 soft Strings, Horn and Clarinet: Expansion Board Orechstral 4:54 bagpipes a mix from Contemporary Board and Samples.. the drumroll starts with aftertouch 5:20 wine glas, aeroplane, ac. guitar, three tone pad: Samples 6:19 Tablas from Kurzweil Board, indian voice, Sitar are Samples 8:17 Strings are sampled from a wavestation, drumbeat is a sample from Roland JV-2080 within the world-Card, the Bass run after hitting more 70 Velocity. I love this Synth.
synthi62 - thank you for the reply. I am looking to buy the same K2500 synth off of eBay but I cannot find any at the moment for sale. As for the expansion packs you mentioned above where can one buys those from? And lastly how hard is this synth to learn? Sorry for all the questions but I am a guitarist and not a keyboard player. So I am looking for something easy to learn but that has great sound like the one you played on this video. Any help would be appreciated.
The learning curve was massive on these, but once you unlocked just _SOME_ of this monster's potential, there was so much you could do with just one instrument!
7:48 man that's some lush lushness for sure! I love this video, revisit it regularly. Great job!
This was a great demonstration of the synth’s massive capabilities. I’m hoping to pick one up soon!

Mesmerizing! 😍
Beautiful, Dietmar. Not only are you a killer musician, but you also have impeccable taste in gear.

Very, very, very nice job!!!!!! Congratulation.
It is the Sound.
All I can say is WOW. You’ve shaped this synth beautifully. Thanks for the demo
A bit like the soundtrack to the game Dune 2000 or Worms Armageddon
Very beautiful
Kurzweil is awesome!
Wahnsinn. Ich hab den gleichen und bei vielen Setups frage ich mich immer, was man damit spielen soll - jetzt weiß ich es.
VERY enjoyable performance. Your samples sound great. Thank you!
wow that's amazing how you can control the patches on the fly like that.. you're also a ridiculously good performer.. good show
Bass player,, playing since 64,, I'm gonna get me one of these!
Very beautiful playing here. I love how you know your equipment so well!
Where can I found all these beautiful sounds for my Kurzweil K2500 expanded with KDFX?
Thanks! some setups are similar to my Kurz PC3 sounds.
Sounds Good !!!!!!

Hey man , that was very nice. I totally enjoyed it.
It,s the real Pink Floyd machine. Richard Wright.
Sounds great! I just bought the rack version, so you've inspired me to take a look into it. :) Thanks! :)
Hiallo,...große Klasse Demo. Absolut Top-Sounds.

Beautiful! :)
I've seen a couple or so listed on Ebay in the 600 dollar range. Going from a casio to somethin this sophisticated, where do I learn about patching?
Awesome m8. Namasté :D

Are those all native patches on the synth or self created?
