I have an 07 6.7 Cummins 170k miles I run archoil and have a cat fuel filter.. can I expect a long life out of my fuel injectors? How would I know if I need replacement?
Great info, I have a 2015 Ram Cummins 6.7L with 25000 kms on it, that pulls my boat once in a while so it is still like new but what do you recommend for a long life with that engine and injectors.
Filters. Only use the OEM fuel, oil and air filters on your truck. Also I would shorten the oil change intervals to six to seven thousand kilometers. Extended oil changes are creating issues in many modern diesels. Bosch who builds the fuel system recommends more frequent oil changes due to the fuel diluting the engine oil during regeneration of the DPF.
I have not compared the two but a Cummins HPI injector in an ISX engine or the common rail injector in an ISX15 function very differently than this ISB injector. They all use orifice style nozzles so they would all generate a similar pattern but may have different spray angles and number of holes.
We used our old Carbon Zapp common rail test bench. It also had an option to test mechanical injectors with more of a constant pressure that works well for this demonstration but generally no used for rebuilding or testing.
I hate to bother you again if I would go with a 30% over injectors who should I look for and would it be worth doing that I pull a boat and a tag along camper I'm confused at the moment
I am personally not a fan of performance injectors. Many on the market are poor quality and if you are not happy with the performance or smoke you are stuck with them or have to buy another set. A tuner is generally cheaper and allows you more control over performance settings. Keep in mind with performance produces that you need to watch you exhaust gas temperatures when towing and that your engine life will be reduced.
This injector would cause poor fuel economy and increased emissions (smoke) but there would be no tapping or knocking noise. If the injector was totally hung open then yes it could cause this.
Unfortunately, just changing the nozzle is not a good option in a common rail injector. These injectors have up to 5 settings that can be upset when changing a nozzle and your issue may not even be related to the nozzle itself. Control valve piston wear, ball seat erosion and internal seal failure are more common than nozzle failures on 5.9L injectors. A big issue in the industry right now is poorly rebuilt injectors. The ECM will compensate for an imbalance at idle and higher RPMs tend to smooth out fueling variations between injectors. This also goes with changing nozzles. People think they saved money but either will be faced with a repeat failure or engine damage down the road.

Would this cause the injector to make a tapping out knocking sound

good filters,thats what saves pumps and injectors and the OEM filters are rubbish.
