Rick, I too saw that railfan video - BNSF GP60 and GP50. They looked great! I thought of your layout when I was watching. Which is looking terrific! I love the hills, it DOES look like SoCal.
that's cool that your making a dryer geographic area in the real world look dryer on your layout. I know others that would do the same but on some layouts there are those who may just keep the look of the general region. I can't wait to see it done, being you said the industries will be different, it will make your operations videos even better.
I feel bad for the folks down around the Carolinas down to Florida. Your video is probably breath of fresh air for some of viewers that live in that area of the country.
Rick: Your mounds look like a Palm Springs oasis split by a RR right-of-way. They are great! You made them way better than I ever imagined they could be......... Now, at 13:48, you speak of extending the elevation. I just want to point out that as expensive as CALIF real estate is, I don't think any rational thinking company would leave a ridge on their property where a parking lot was needed. It just wouldn't happen. They would grade it off and do what they needed to do to make it beneficial to the operations of the company. And a chopped ridge would also be visually interesting. Now, on the other hand, it's your layout and you can do what you like; I'm going to enjoy it either way. What matters most is that I'm 94-years old, and I just want to live long enough to see Carl get his due. I'm warning you, he's nothing but trouble. He's going to cause a major financial disaster of some kind; I can feel it coming. You keep fooling around with him and you are liable to get wiped out! Now, Torres seems to be in great form and function today. Cheers to Torres! Finally, well, actually I'm not 94; I'm only 79. Either way, I'm hanging on long enough to see Carl get his. He's about as responsible as that dog perpetually pizzing the truck wheel over at the horse facility. And he's about as beneficial to society as his illegitimate son, Lance Ramrod, over at the taco trailer. Pssst! By the way, I hear Mrs. Torres is fooling around with the local C-store manager in the neighborhood near the yard. Who would-a-thunk???? Why don't you see what you can find out about that? If you learn something, let us know.
Man the hills came out great! You got room for a dry wash or arroyo? How bout the LA concrete river? Ya know you could print out some building fronts and glue to those cardboard boxes, until you get ready to scratchbuild. Quick and easy way to bump the viewers experience up a couple notches.
You mentioned that you might extend your new hill to the left a bit. Rather than extending the existing hill, you could leave a gap of an inch or two, and model a small footpath between the hills. It would make a nice scene. Maybe a picnic bench and one or two picnickers? Just an idea…
How’d you do your layout lighting? Is it just LED strips on L bars above the backdrops or do you have studio lighting bars above it as well? Planned on doing studio lights, with LEd strips behind them with customized lighting so I can do morning midday dusk and night runs and make them look realistic. Love your updates glad to catch up with most of them!
I wish I could find some GP7’s that are leased units but it’s hard as it is to find geep7’s with dcc sound in general. Likely getting a GP9 and S8 with no lettering to create the J&WI industrial park railroad on top of running my early gen SP and Up switchers and more modern runs I’ll use my geep15 and Geep40 with occasional use from my warbonnett 4 axle 40b. My industrial park layout can only handle short 4 axle power, so sadly all my 6 axle mainline units no longer fit either of my layouts and will likely be selling them at a train show in the future
I have two strips of led lights under the overhang. one pointing down the other pointing in on the background. then I also have led shop lights hanging from the ceiling all around the layout.
@@socalscalemodels right on 👍 I kept considering doing an L bar above my backdrop with LED strips and studio lighting above as well so the way yours was set up made me curious as to whether what I envisioned would work or not. I really want to have really good morning evening and nighttime lighting so I’ll definitely need the perfect lighting blend and ability to customize the coloring. Might be one of my later steps as it’s pricy and the funds just a tent there but thank you for quickly replying!
I do fly every day, two or three flights, but don't stream it. didn't want it to become a 'job'. I usually watch other videos and streams while I'm flying so I can't re-stream their content. I will do some in the future thou.
@@socalscalemodels Thanks. I do remember when I first started regularly watching this channel maybe a year or so ago you talked about the flight sim channel and that you did regular live streams a couple of times a week. I do know the feeling that when something you do for fun gets to be too close to being a job.
😢 with all the hassles of remodeling I have to tell you it is a joy to watch these videos again thank you engineer Rick where's 😢 Benjamin?
Very nice scenery in the new area . Looks great and thanks for showing it.
That new hilly area looks great, the shot of the trains running through looked almost real.

Also… those Santa Fe gals look great. Nice power units.
They are!

The alive/dry hills look great!! They really compliment the scene.
Hey Rick, love the GP7s. That new hilly area looks great. It's like a desert oasis in the middle of the industrial area.
Hi Rick , a little bit of scenery makes a big difference. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi Rick & Hello Benjamin & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Rick & Benjamin & Friends Randy
The hills look great Rick. A really nice addition to the layout. I look forward to your next update.
Thanks 👍

That's the plan!
Rick - all the new terrain details look great! Good job on the hills.
Thanks 👍
Luv the GP7u s still wonder if one has the narrow tank. (just a version I like, was pleased when Athearn did them) woot!
PS it's nice to see an honest to gawd sulfuric acid tank car. I think I have like 20 of the things.(my loader has six spots) good deal.

Nice job on the new hill area. Maybe add a storage tank at one of those boxes.
Keep us updated on the layout
The scenery work is great.
Looking good Rick!

Thanks for the video Engineer Rick. Have to ask - whatever happened to pilot Rick? Haven't seen a live stream in a while. We miss them.
