When I first heard Dave 5yrs ago I thought he was nutz. Then I started changing.
I bought everything on cc. I was bad.
I had $11k cc balance. I had zero savings.
I had $50k income. Now 5yrs later.
No debt. Paid for home. No cc.
No rent. No mortgage. $40k in the bank.
It can be done. Dave’s plan works.
What is the plan now?
Nothing wrong with putting everything on a cc. I do it. Just have to pay it off in full every month. If I don't have the money then it's not going on the cc.
If you did all that in five years, that is very impressive but you must have an excellent income.
I definitely feel his pain. A lot of people are going through this same struggle. Different situation, same financial problems. Debt doesn’t discriminate.
Don't feel it. Avoided those issues but understand.
He should have been more discriminating with his relationship decisions and personal finances.
No, he's just bad at managing money. Plus a bad mindset.
Debt is a decision of living outside your means.
Well said!

You have to remain strong for your children. Stay strong bro. Things will get better.
Dave knows exactly when to step back and let his cohosts take the lead. That is a man of experience.
Dave always finishes though!
I disagree--George heard that he was getting food from friends and said, "good."
I remember when I was deep In debt only making 50k. I started working more and got another job and have paid off more than half. It's scary at first when you find out where all your money is going but then you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and feel better.
This is what the show is for. Not the flex calls.
A homeless person would consider this a flex call.

Can't stop living paycheck to paycheck or won't are two very different things.
I’m not understanding how someone bringing $6000 a month and only paying $2000 a month in rent without a car payment feel he cannot live paycheck to paycheck. That is HORRIBLE money management dependent upon how much he pays in child support. He’s a plumber. He can easily be outside working 70 hours a weeks raking it in. I’m super confused by this caller. Like what?
He is a single dad so maybe childcare is eating most of it?

He has a mortgage and decent income. This is definitely fixable. It is tight, but workable.
Making a budget and writing everything down week to week is what saves me. It really helps to have a visual of where your money is going and how to allocate it and what to get rid of. It also helps to know so I can see how much to put aside for savings and can plan for the future.
He needs a major push and encouragement. He can do it.
I've heard some NYC residents living paycheck to paycheck even though they make $100k or $150k+ a year because rent is so crazy! Cost of living in these crazy expensive areas is a huge factor behind why people live this way. Housing is the biggest expense we will pay in our lives
Depending on income it's actually taxes lol

I make 75k a year and would never have a house payment of 2k a month that's way too much of his income.
Great advice.
Budgeting will change his life once he starts.
With that mentality, yes he will be living paycheck to paycheck the rest of his life. But if he follow’s Dave & George’s advice, and actually do it, that mentality will go bye bye.
Yup, victimhood keeps you right where you are.
He makes 6K a month. This man shouldn’t be that worried about 2K mortgage it’s a little high, but that’s not bad.
2K to mortgage

1K likely in misc. for the kids
Put everything else toward the debt after bills. You should be left with a spare 2K a month at least
@@Quinu12 No child support cause they split custody 50/50
What about food and utilities?!
They have 50/50 custody. That negates child support and he didn’t mention alimony.

It is depending on the job and the place. 50k is nothing when you live here in NYC
His mortgage is high and takes up large chunk of his pay
If you have a family then that’s nothing.
It doesn’t matter how high the number is. If he runs out of money before he runs out of month, he’s living paycheck to paycheck.

If he has space rent out a room in the home...do it for a year for extra $5-800 a month he can kill all the debt

That is $6600. Maybe he shares child care, health insurance and supplies for kids with his Ex-Wife, then he still pays $5300.
